i wasnt even born yet when he passed but when i saw la bamba the movie he instantly became my hero. I am now an acomplished musician. thanks ritchie for the inspiration. RIP and god bless
wow at 4:32.. In the Movie La Bamba the actor was wearing the same outfit.. holy hell.. i guess they really did do the movie as genuine as possible! wow.. Amazing job!
hey as a mucisians wife Ritchy sure paid his dues to get to where he was and he left the world a better place for allowing us to in enjoy his music even if for a brief time! But his music will live on in all of us!!
Wonderful video. The world lost an awesome talent the day the music died. It's heartwarming to see that he is still remembered and appreciated for his contribution to the music world. To those that were involved in the mural and dedication.....Great Job and Thank You!!!!!! It would be a crying shame if the young people of today couldn't experience his wonderful gift!!!
I love the young, young (and quite handsome) footage of Chuck Berry in this video. Just had to comment on that, no disrespect to Ricardo Valenzuela by any means!! Well, two brown-eyed handsome men, in any case.
1959 was a loss of 3 great artists. I remember when his first record came out, I bought it for my oldest boy and he played it until it was so full of scratches I went got another record.
It was thrilling to see this little documentary on one of my true heroes. Ritchie Valens gave me so much hope for living well as a Hispanic in America at a time when I was suffering much prejudice. He was a hero to me and I still treasure his memory. Thanks for this insight into him by people who knew him well.
this was brilliant, to see mum and other close to him talking, those school shots as well,on stage and back stage etc, and to see the school teacher talk about vallens singing out in the school yard with a huge crowd in school time was so so neat.good to see tributes all over still for this guy, and rightly so, keeping these guys alive in this day and age is just a good thing and refreshing to see and hear them again,.
I want to THANK the man who put together this heartfelt tribute to an American legend. I was a month away from my 14th birthday when the plane crash happened. I can still remember eating breakfast in the kitchen, and reading the small box article (a bulletin) that was in the middle of the front page of the SF Chronicle. I walking to school, me and my friends talking in hushed tones about the crash and the loss. I still feel that same intense sense of loss today; still a huge fan of all 3.
Awesome Tribute! Ive been a fan since The story "La Bamba" came out in the 1980s, I love all of his music. Its sad he died at 17.... He could have been a big rock star and made a huge impact in the 1960s & 70s in rock n Roll.. It saddens me to See that 3 stars died in that crash. They should have taken the buss, Jimmy C. got lucky and went on the bus, with out heat.
I have never seen this anywhere else; thank you for posting it. After all these years I go into stores or restaurants and someone is playing Oh Donna or La Bamba. Proud of Ritchie he is a Mexican/American just like me.

God bless him. I'd love to see what he'd be doing now if the plane crash hadn't happened. I'd love to see him today, shredding on that Strat. In the fifties, to sell a million copies was a huge deal! He did in 8 months what it takes a lot of people years to do. My hat's off to him!
Wao he was 17! he looks a little old for his age (not ofense). H e is one of my favorite singers, i love his songs, specially La Bamba OMG i love that song. im latino and is good to know that he was descendet of mexicans, (im not mexican but thats great) and when i saw his movie i didnt cry but i was very very sad i never will forgive him. Para bailar La Bamba se nesecita una poca de gracia. Yesss.
Here was a 17 yr old Mexican-American hitting it big in the 50's and singing in spanish. Don't remember anyone else like that back then. Ritchie opened the doors for a lot of hispanics. Santana even thanked him in his rock & roll hall of fame speech. He was a great artist and his music will live on forever.
im not going to lie when i tell you this but they said that at th rate that Ritchie Valens was getting famous he would have been.....just as if not more famous than elvis and im not just saying that its the truth
he died at an early stage in his music career....

Ritchy & Buddy, has left their mark in life, they live on through there music and their spirit shows through. You may think that "they" do not know. Yes, they do. Their music came from the heart, there spirit is still felt today. Fan of Both! i have talked with Bob from time to time, And he loved his brother very much. He misses Ritchy deeply.
@RELAXATION1errrr nigga that foo was older then buddy and ritchie plus ritchie was only in the record for like a year or a couples of months.ppl respect ritchie even more
Thank you Ritchie for paving the way for future Latin artists. Your efforts as a musician made it easier for future Latin stars to break into mainstream American music. You are not forgotten and may you rest in peace.
In Beverly Mendheim's Book "Ritchie Valens - THE FIRST LATINO ROCKER "
others also describe how Ritchie was allowed to bring his Guitar to school and entertain. As Mr. Schwartz explains " I talked with Ritchie about it. We had an understanding that as long as everything was okay and there were no problems, he could continue to do that ". I know that most schools would never allow it, but Ritchie was an extraordinary Human being and Pacoima Jr High was and still is an extraordinary School.
So sad
