Thanks for this posting. It is hard to find any quality footage of him playing on here. I think the stuff from 1988's How will I laugh tomorrow is some of his best work. 1990's LCR album has much great stuff too. Mike Clark was also a fantastic rhythm guitar player and their combination was superb.
Rocky George always hits the right note, he shreds, but it is not mindless and it has depth and emotion in it. The fretboard tapping style (8 fingers) is unmatched.
I remember taking the RTD bus from Redondo Beach with the homies to venice beach, and watching these guys play! Then skateboard all the way home with $5 for taco bell...
The man plays for Fishbone now. I definitely want to see how he fits in with that band. I really liked their last album, "Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx."

It was Cult, ST and Metallica-I still remember ao easy he made his solos look!When Metallica came on stage and kirk had to solo he looked really stiff and tense! Rocky rocks, and all of his solos are so memorable, melodic and emotional! I am, and have been a guitarist for quite some time. I'm not saying Rocky is bad by any means. He's most definitely a great guitarist, but Jeff Loomis is also without a doubt much better than Rocky. Have you heard some of Loomis' crazy diminished solos and whatnot?

Honestly? Not a fan of Dimebag. I, personally, don't find him to be anything special at all. I think he gets a lot more credit than deserved. And "listen music" is really dependent on one's taste in music. "Listen music" to you varies much more than "listen music" to me. I find solo's such as Loomis' and Petrucci's to be listen music to myself, personally.
Too technical = harder to listen. but in no way im saying that e.g Jeff Loomis is not technically better than Rocky. (i mean insane sweeps and stuff). but Rocky has so much feeling and great melodies in his solos he is just amazing guitarist for that.
Bottolime Rocky has more soul. I'm totally into shred guitar (Yngwie, Petrucci, Gambale, Macalpine) but hearing some of Loomis' playing is painfully BORING. He's technically great but doesn't hit the right notes to invoke goosebumps or nipple erections. Rocky's solos do that for me.

Saying he is more soulful just means that his sound is more aesthetic to you personally. Now Andre Segovia during his life was a TRUE master that these two virtuosos would be excited to shake hands with ^_^ It's like the difference between portnoy/carey, and someone like dave weckl. Grreat showcase. Rocky still SHREDS & mixes his 8 finger tapping into his solos. Saw him this weekend tear shit up like a monster. Asked him who is primary influence on guitar was. He said "John McLaughlin, period!"
Speed has nothing to do with technical ability. I haven't heard a single Rocky George solo that is anywhere near as fast as the solo in "Erotomania" or "As I am" by Dream Theater. Listen to those two song and say that Rocky is faster.

says the obsessive fan who probably hasn't heard much of petrucci to begin with. I listen to both quite a bit, and know all of stuff both of them have produced. Saying he is more soulful just means that his sound is more aesthetic to you personally. Doesn't necessarily make him a better guitarist, and you really don't know much about playing the instrument if you think george is more technical, honestly. I actually play covers of both, and find more difficulty in petrucci's material, period.

hmmmm,i cant say that rocky is better than pettruci, they are both technical masters. I'd say though that petrucci is a much better writer of music, and is much more progressive.
Now Andre Segovia during his life was a TRUE master that these two virtuosos would be excited to shake hands with ^_^ It's like the difference between portnoy/carey, and someone like dave weckl. Sure, most drummers are going to talk about portnoy if they are into rock/metal. But dave is strictly better on many levels.

Hungout, partied & did photoshoots with Rocky on Saturday night @ a Fishbone gig. Has a new Ibanez axe with a kickass locked tuning system. He might route the bridge, same as ALL of his ST guitars (which he still has) were routed for effortless 'divebombs'. He said he talked to Mike & they might jam on a song.

I never said John was better then Rocky, I simply said that people should stop comparing. I do prefer John, but thats basically because I'm more of a Dream Theater fan than a Suicidal Tendancies fan. Speed has nothing to do with technical ability. I haven't heard a single Rocky George solo that is anywhere near as fast as the solo in "Erotomania" or "As I am" by Dream Theater. Listen to those two song and say that Rocky is faster.
