  • And we're supposed to believe that it's not going to happen in California?

    We weren't born yesterday, people!

  • Marriage has been redefined MANY times in the US. Slaves once weren't allowed to marry-- as recently as the 1960s, blacks were not allowed to marry whites.

People who don't want gays to marry because "It's not what God intended" sure gloss over the "Till death do us part" aspect of marriage, with our 55% divorce rate.

  • @wilburtrex - the LDS church sports an 80% of marriages had by folks married in a temple. So long as they keep their covenants, the institution of marriage works. The world is under a full-scale assault on values of ALL kinds and not just whether a marriage works or not. The enemy of our souls, the very same Satan, would not hold anything back in and around the eve of the Lord's return. It is unreasonable to suggest that the Ol' Devil will just let us all live our lives unimpeded.

  • What about the orgin of marrige, who instituted it in the first place? Those with religous convictions believe it to God, as I do. In that regard who are we to change anything that God, created, instituted, put in motion, or has a law for. It was between a man and a woman from the beginning, and is still the same today. Marrige is for a purpose, love is just one aspect of marrige or its foundation, but it's much more serious than that.

  • One man and one woman? Not according to Joseph Smith! LOL

  • @possum415 - not according to the Bible. During certain times, the law of plural marriage has been lived and it's recorded all throughout the Bible.

  • Prop 8 appears to have passed. Now tolerance goes both ways in California. I appreciate all of you who voted and participated in democracy on this most important issue. I appreciate the kind and respectful tone and good people that are on either side of this issue. I'm glad when we can be tolerant of each other. And I'm thankful for freedom of speech, a fundamental human right.
