Koreans need to be proud of their own cars. The President of South Korea needs to have a Korean made car instead of using a Mercedes-Benz. Predictably, it depends on your political views. Some loved him, some hated him. On Youtube there is a bias towards him because many of his supporters are young.

Personally I see him as a failure. He was incompetent with the economy, engaged in trivial attacks against the media, and did nothing as the North built nuclear weapons.

The current president is Lee Myung-bak, a conservative. He was elected in the 2007 presidential elections. Roh wasn't a candidate.

Roh was quite unpopular by that stage. Much of it had to do with economic mismanagement and perceived incompetence in general. Foreign policy didn't have much to do with it, from what I gather.

Bits and pieces of these developments were covered by the US media. But since it wasn't really in-depth, you probably missed it.

Observations from a guy in Chicagoland:

-I wish the video's resolution was better.

-The men with lapel pins are North Corean.

-The girls in han-boks have cute North Corean accents :)

-The cars aren't German or Japanese, but instead Corean. Probably Hyundae but could also be Kia or Daewoo. Someone please comment which company & model. Thanks.

Wrong, at least there are two Mercedes-Benz S-class (type S600 v12, clearly seen at 3:40 till 3:55). Even two Chevrolet Blazers. At the background you see several old, long wheelbased Mercedes-Benz from type W123. For the rest Hyundai's or other Japanese/Korean stuff, I don't know types.

You can tell that the Prez's car is a Mercedes S600 12 cyl because of the wheels. You can also clearly tell it's a 03 -- 06 model because of the taillights. (this is the car that we see the lady in that awful fuchsia suit get into, so assuming it's the prez). Also, the North does use American cars. "scenes of lamentation after Kim Il Sung's death" VERY clearly shows a '79ish Lincoln Town Car carrying the body of Kim Il Sung at :01, :26, :32, so not only are you wrong, you're a total douche.
