  • This looks yummy! (I love soup!)

  • Just made this for my family and it was very good. I didn't think it would come out so good actually. I put some pine nuts in it too. It was a little creamy and had a good taste almost at the end. I also can't chew very well because I got my braces five days ago, but this was easy to chew. Took the rest of the soy beans and made soy milk, and put in the fridge. Made your pine nut juk a few days ago as well. Thank you for all your tasty recipes!

  • @jamandhelli Thank you for your update! "Took the rest of the soy beans and made soy milk, and put in the fridge." great idea!

  • @Maangchi Love your hair! =)

  • I love how crispy and chewy your foods are!! I love all you videos!! :)

  • this might be a dumb question but can u use regular soy milk from the grocery store?

  • @kryhappy96 That's not a dumb question. You are creative! But I don't think the soy milk sold at a store will work well for kongguksu.

  • @Maangchi ok, thanks so much for the reply :)

  • Can't wait to try this recipe! What kind of noodles do you use traditionally? I have a Korean store nearby, what should I ask for? If they are wheat noodles, can I substitute other kinds of noodles for my friends who can't eat gluten, like rice or sweet potato noodle?

  • @emeff530 It's called somyeon. Check out the recipe on my website. All info you are looking for is available there.

  • @Maangchi, thanks for such a quick response, I will make it tomorrow. What non-wheat noodles can you suggest that I can substitute?

  • ^0^ i LOVE kong gook soo!!! My mom used to make it for me during the summer! But her's was kind of greenish black. Is it because of an ingredient she used? Thanks for the recipe!

  • I just got finished making this soup and it's delicious! Removing the skins from the soybeans is a lengthy process, but other than that, it's a really simple recipe. This is my new summer soup. Yay!!!

  • @Blairtje13 great news! Now you can enjoy your delicious homemade soy milk all the time!

  • thank you for this recipe i ate this at a korean market and i loved it but i didnt know how to make and. now that i found it and summer is coming up im definatly going to try this thank you :)

  • I've been looking for the recipe for a long time and it doesn't look complicated at all i will give it a try thanks for the video :)

  • very healthy!!!!!

  • That actually looks drinkable on its own. It can be drunk as it is right?

  • Yes, it can.

  • first time in my entire life that i see an orange tomato

  • This is the best Korean cold noodle in my book. It's has a really really subdued mild taste that some would consider bland. But the underlying creaminess of the soy milk is manifested in the form of an aftertaste. Be sure to add salt as that's the catalyst that brings out the otherwise low key flavour of this dish.

  • That's so cool!

  • would it be okay to heat this up and serve it warm?

  • @JALflight1628 yes, you could serve it warm or hot.

  • its micheal jackson's song

  • me likey

  • can u puhleeez add more vids to ur podcast cuz i usually watch em during my lunch break at work or college on my ipod and I decide what to cook for da evening so i usually do some shopping at da asian food market b4 i go home, ive downloaded almost all ur recipes on my ipod, lovvvvvvvvveeee em, ur da only korean cook on itunes

  • @sapsarii yay! good news!

  • omg i want your pink jacketttttttttttttt !!!!!!!!

  • billy jean by michael jackson

  • u r my hero,like ur recepies

  • Comment removed

  • wow it looks really good since my mom is lactose intolerant i can make soy milk all the time thanks :p

  • Maangchi is there another version of this soup with kimchi?

  • You can eat kimchi as a side dish when you eat this noodle soup. Enjoy this soybean soup as it is. Thank you!

  • Oh I was talking about a soup that is very similar to this one, but instead of using soybeans there is kimchi. The soup is red and it's kinda spicy and it also has the rice noodles in it. I'm not sure what it's called but it starts with a S and has the word goksu in it too.

  • I LOVE YOUR OUTFIT!!!! XD!!!!!

  • What side dish were you eating?

  • That's mustard green kimchi. I will post the recipe someday. : )

  • The Korean heavy sea salt make it best!!!!

  • This looks delicious and so healthy. I know need to try all these recipes lol. I love cooking and trying different foods so these are wonderful. Especially the vegetables and tofu dishes. I will be trying to eat healthier and this looks so wonderful and refreshing!! Thanks and keep; up the great work,

  • yeah. some people i know doesn't think this sounds appetizing (because its soy beans) but its really really good and calming! my grandmother also makes a hot version too (with homemade noodles) and its yummy for breakfast.

  • All the food you make looks so good! D;~

  • I think I will omit the ice though, if that's OK!

  • Thanks, we have a vegetarian in the family and this would be really good.

  • Just one more question, what if you blend the soy beans without taking the skin off, wouldn't the skin just blend right in and you wouldn't even notice the difference?

  • Please follow the recipe. You have to take the skin off to make creamy soy bean soup.

  • Is this a traditional dish or did you just make it up? It doesn't "seem" very tasty because I am wondering where the taste would be coming from -- for example, there is not much taste to the noodles, soy beans or nuts.

  • Kongguksu is Korean traditional food. Adding nuts makes this very tasty. If you don't use nuts, it's bland. Check the written recipe on my website.

  • Thanks, I'll give it a try and let you know how I like it. It looks very nutritious.

  • May I ask again, can we use Buckwheat noodles for this recipe? Thank you :3

  • I love your cooking show. May I ask what kind of noodles you used?

  • You can get it at a Korean grocery store. It's called "somyeon" or "makguksu", white and thin noodles. Check the ingredient section on my website please. I posted the photo of the noodles there.

  • Oh, okay. Thank you very much 8D

soymilk noodle with ice will take away summer hot.

  • Hi Maangchi! Thank you for this wonderful recipe. I love your videos. Just a quick question I want to make kimchi biji-jjigae today and was wondering do I make the blended soybeans the same way demonstrated on the video? I'm assuming since biji jigae is more thick i would put in less water and keep the skins on. Thank you!

  • yeah, use less water when blend it.

  • I love it. My wife also love it.you're awesome!! thank you so much

    KAI

  • This is Tasty. I have had it in my office party.

    Lalith Moorjani, Piscataway, New Jersey.

  • Hi Maangchi, I was wondering...

Are the noodles that you're using called somen?

  • Yes, you are right! It's also called "somyeon" in Korean (소면). Check the photo on ingredients section on my website.

  • 먹고싶당 ㅠㅠ

  • I love you, Maangchi uhnni~~ This is amazing to watch. I know how healthy and delicious this is, but it is so much work to cook for one person!! Can I just use soymilk from the store? :p

  • Thank you! I really want you to try out this recipe.

  • I love you! #2

  • hi Maangchi! My son caught me watching this video last night and yelled at me for not fixing any Korean food lately! So we spent the afternoon today making kimchee! I will definitely be making this dish this week or I will never here the end of it! lol

  • lol, so cute! It reminds me of my friend's daughter. My friend said her 15 year old daughter made my friend watch my bulgogi stew video and asked her to make it.

  • Oh my gosh that looks so delicious, especially because it's so hot where I am right now! I will make that this weekend for sure! Thanks again for all the recipes.

  • maangchi.. what else could you garnish this with.. besides cucumber and tomato?

  • You could use perillar leaves, but cucumber is mostly used.

  • ah! i love the michael jackson background music <3

  • look good.. but i'm too lazyto make the soya soup.. hahaha...

  • I love you!

  • it looks just as pretty as always misses

  • love the Theme Song ;)

  • This is what my Mom had been asking me to make her. Love your videos.

  • Hi Maangchi! i love your recipes!

can i use canned soybeans or a different "wet" version so I don't have to soak them or would that change the final taste too much?

  • I don't think canned soybeans are good for this recipe.

This recipe is quite easy to follow

  • Your hair is cute!! <3

  • i love the music=)

your new page looks great as well.

  • my dad didnt know how to make this.. so he got soy milk and noodles. I hope the real way to make it taste good i hated t hat version.

  • haha I love the Billie Jean intro!

  • your hair is so cute! i will try this recipe.

  • i still think soya and tomato wont match for me, are there any other alternatives for tomato? i dont like tomatoes thats why.

  • : ) Just skip it then. It will still be delicious!

  • when I eat this at home my mom just adds cucumbers and no tomatoes and it is still awesome =)

  • mmm kongguksu is one of my summer favorites. You could also add some roasted pine nuts too right? And of course you need kimchi with that...

  • yes, I used to use pine nuts and sesame seeds, too. Check my story about kongguksu recipe on my website.

Mixed nuts make this noodle soup much much better taste than pine nuts or sesame seeds.

  • This dish seems very interesting! I like your cute hair cut too.

  • It's my wig! : ) I sometimes wear wigs to change my looks for my viewers.

  • your wig really suits you Maangchi! You should get it cut like that in real life ^___^

  • wow great recepie. by the way love your kitchen

  • Great dish, I really want to try now.

FYI, have you seen the Korean TV Show Gourmet Chef? What do you think about their cooking?

  • your hair is cute !

  • Oh, I've never heard of this recipe before! It definitely has me intrigued, I want to try it soon. Nice bg music btw :D Your hair looks really cute, it reminds me of the Wondergirls!

  • Are those regular wheat flour noodles? Maybe potato flour?

  • Nice hair. You look like one of the Wonder Girls. :)

  • maangchi, i was curious if i could use actual soy milk for this dish.

  • looove the top!

  • This looks really good. thanks :)

  • mmmmmm! i like your new hair cut, jacket, and your chopsticks too!

this video is really great in that it shows her recipe, AND how to make your own soy milk.

  • My wife would like this, the nuts are a nice touch. But I don't like soy milk.

  • you have a new hairdo! looks good on you=D

thanks for the recipe, as always!

  • that looks so delicous. and i do like the billy jean beat being played in the back

  • thats Michael Jackson... -.-;;;

  • Hope you're not serious, Billy Jean is the name of the song. LMAO.

  • How do you know which beans are dead? Also, do we sift/strain the blended soy beans? or is the pulp also part of the soup?

  • I think, dead beans float when you soak them in the water. Also, I don't think you need to strain the soy milk.

  • I love your hair. It's so cute!

  • You are so cute and funny. This dish looks delicious. I'm definately going to try this tomorow.

  • aww..

    poor beans..

  • I love how korean food uses cold noodles. :]! So delicious!

  • hey maangchi!

    I love your videos!!!

I couldn't help but notice the blender you were using. You need to get a Vita Mix. I have one and I LOVE it! I have the wet and dry blade and I make everything with it... you should look into it.

    Love you!

    So Hui

  • i like your style.. in music, clothes, cooking..

    you're just awesome ;)

  • i love this!! looks so yummy. its best on summer

  • love your hair

  • I love you!

  • i want to request a recipe: general tso's chicken or burbon chicken and fried rice

  • ey haole, stop gettin us asians confused, also, general tso's isn't authentic chinese

  • Are you serious? that is the most ridiculous thing you could have requested. This is an authentic Korean show. Are YOU wish her to make fake Chinese food?..GO find what you are looking for somewhere else

  • Lol, neither of those chicken dishes are Korean. And General Tso's chicken is in no way shape or form authentic Asian food, dear lord. Some people are so ridiculous that it's funny. ^ O ^

  • this looks really goood!~

i love the song you chose.

and your hair looks reaelly good no you!!!!:)

  • your hair looks SO pretty on you!

  • I can tel it's healthy food. I've to try it now !

  • can we use poppy seeds? and i don't like tomatoes so i put that aside will it hurt the dish? and i just use very cold water

  • ...using that much poppy seeds would likely kill you because of the tiny amount of morphine naturally contained in poppy naturally would be magnified by the huge amount of seeds you'd substitute for the soyabeans used in the recipe. I hope you were kidding.

  • RIP Michael Jackson

  • Hey Maangchi, nice blouse, bling2 and pink looks cute together, I love it... your cooking today is this what people called 'cold noodles'?

  • looks healthy

  • it looks good and i love the micheal jackson song!!

  • Your so cute, &always a MJ fan

  • LOVE the MJ touches

  • THAT LOOKS SO REFRESHING!

  • hii maangchi. great video! the noodles look delicious. Just a question, if I don't use soya beans, do you think i could just use soya milk instead?

  • You really should use soy beans because it gives the dish a lot of texture that you wouldn't get from using a substitute. My mom won't use anything but real soy beans, lol. ^o^

  • mj song!

  • Why did you cut your hair so short???

  • Cause she can?

  • Lol, exactly. It looks so good!

  • Nice video Maangchi, also thank you for paying tribute to Michael Jackson :) Long live the King of Pop
