The rower around 1:00 has pretty poor bladework. His catch is really not pretty to look at, with the common flaw of not raising his hands at the catch and at the right time. If you look at how he draws the blade through the stroke, because of this poor catch, the movement is not horizontal and I haven't even started talking about his finishing into his lap...
Yehh I'm sorry but you cant compare football to rowing... football where you'll do a bti of cardio and a lot of kicking a ball around, rowing where puking shows you're training right.
I have no doubt rowing is physically very demanding, but I think its no more interesting than running. It's the same repetitive motion over and over again that requires no talent, just strength
I'm sorry for you, bro. You clearly don't understand what rowing is realy about. It's just you, your team, your boat, on the water, 2000m of sweat and effort, coordination, agility, teamwork, endurance. It is one of the most beautyful sports in the world and one of the most fisically demanding and it is by far the best sport I've ever practiced and that's a thing any rower can confirm.
There's hardly any strategy involved. Success doesn't depend on skill but mostly on brute force and stamina. Even with the best technique you can't get around that
If you practice it yourself it sure looks interesting but for an objective viewer any two rowing matches look the same
@bla7091 Technique and strategy are far more important in rowing than brute force. Who must have thousands of hours in the water to train the technique and how to better use your strenght. There have been many races that have been lost to a teem better in technique because halfway they were already out of strenght. As for strategy, In just seven minutes there can be a lot of atacks and defences between the boats. There is a lot more to rowing than brute force
@bla7091 my crew this year was a junio women's ltwt 8...and our coach put us in an openweight event so we could see what losing was like cos he thought we were too small to even contend...we ended up getting throught semis, onto a bronze medal. IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT STRENGTH
@bla7091 Son, rowing isn't about showing off to others, it's about winning, even if no one is watching. When you're at the stakeboats of a race, you're prepared to die but it's all for your crew to win.
@bla7091 you have obviously never rowed. Rowing is all skill and form. If one person on your boat screws up, such as putting their oar in too early, the boat will drastically slow down. And you always have to be conscious of what your doing. If you aren't, go can turn the oar the wrong way, and it will get caught in the water (crab). Rowing is very demanding of skill. It's also a lot of hard work. You want to quit trying during the race, but if you do, your team will lose.
i have been rowing for my school for like 2 years now and this year i started competing, we were coming last and it sucked the ergo sessions were hard everything about rowing sucked. i stuck with it until head of the river and watched the older kids and now i know what rowing is about and i love it :D
@absegamifrosh8 i would deinitely disagree. I think it takes a certain degree of insanity in order to succeed in rowing at a high level... a form of masochism. I see some great rowers suffer unbelievably for just a piece of metal around their necks.
Around The Rings, a Web site devoted to Olympic coverage, gave Chicago a slim lead in its first rankings of the seven bids for the 2016 Olympics. Evaluating the bids in all categories, including ambience, accommodation, legacy, transport and cost, ATR gave Chicago 79 of a maximum 110 points, with Rio de Janeiro (77), Madrid (77) and Tokyo (74) close behind. Chicago scored highest, with 8 of 10 possible points, on accommodation, ambience and transport.
