The fight scene where the German soldier whispers "Shhhh" as he slowly pushes the knife into the American's chest, reminds me of a scene from a war movie I watched as a kid, in the late 70's or early 80's. I've been searching and searching but I can't find any reference to a similar scene in another movie. It was like deja vu when I first saw this scene and it's been driving me nuts. This movie is such a masterpiece. You can seriously pick 20 moments that take your breath away and drop your jaw. I never knew thats what the German was saying when he killed the american, thats so realistic also what the american was saying trying anything to save his life. For the record: the guy who stabbed Mellish is not Steamboat Willie (the German soldier they released earlier). They look familier though. He is from the SS, you can see his collar patches with the runes. 8:57 for example

@beerrunner81 I think that part was more about the symbolism of a gutless soldier who after hearing his OWN American friend/soldier die, couldn't summon the courage to kill the German that killed his two fellow soldiers. The German simply looks at the soldier and after seeing that his is a courage-less man, leaves him behind...

Heh. The German soldier probably didn't want to be there, neither did Upham. I respect the German for not killing Upham. Anyone else on Youtube probably said they would've killed the German, "made him pay" or some crap.
