Whitney sang live all the time so I don´t really care that this is playback. I bet she wanted live but she couldn´t because this tv studio isn´t built for live performances.

I've followed Whitney's career from the beginning and YES your right Whitney was known for NEVER performing a song the same twice and her LIVE renditions used to overshadow her recordings.

Whitney used to use a lot of melisma in her LIVE renditions - like how Mariahs recordings sounded but used restraint on her own recordings.

No, she is good, but this is not live. It is the record version from her Whitney album. It must have been the request of the talk show (did not have the equitment to do live songs, or something of the like), because at this point in her career she could have out sang the record, EASILY!

@joerv nah even though Whitney refused to lipsync in her career, on shows like this they force all artists to lipsync regardless of who you are because they want a guaranteed perfect performance. That was just how it was.

This was a lip synced performance, if you ever want to know Whit's lipped performances look at her throat, she has some of the strongest vocal muscles in the business and you would see those muscles flex in her neck, but here you don't. Also since Whitney doesn't like to lip sync she sucks at it. LOL but I love my Whitney!

I'm still not buying it. I've watched some clips on the internet where she reproduces 'album version voice' esp during this period. Seems like the type of venue (arena,studio) dictates the acoustics and overall sound. Just because 'everyone did it' sounds like hearsay. On the related videos tab there's a 1991 Vision of love acappella. If this is the same Wogan then 'Did everyone do it?' What I'm thinking is she is singing live to a playback, heck she was/is that damn good. No Milli Vanilli here
