I wonder, Rev., why Mary might not have been Jesus' wife? I rather like to think of Mary seeing the Risen Lord at the tomb as the culmination of a great romance. What sources would on go to for research?
Wow, that was a fun little video, I struggled with Christianity for years and there been times I completely denounced it but I feel a strong connection to the Episcopal church. It's truly a "Love your neighbor as yourself" atmosphere.
The "prostitute" story is probably a pious myth, but I think it's wrong for alot of feminist scholars to jump all over that- it's a very wordly way to look at it.
Mary Magdalene protested Pilate's poor administration of justice at Jesus' trial and then announced that Jesus had risen from the dead. She picked up an egg from the table, an instinctive move to explain the Resurrection with new life breaking out. Caesar scoffed, claiming a man could no more rise from the dead than that egg turn red. Well....the egg turned red!
We had the icon of Mary M in our church at St.Paul's in Bethany ON....sadly our church closed.....but....we told the story of Mary every Easter and the story of the white egg she is holding. Do you know the story Father?
mhmm aren't you a priest though isnt scripture suppose to be the truth for the world , no offence father but that story in the Bible of Our Lord at the temple really brings hope to people. i'm not really following hear ?
They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, [a] you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
As real as any Reverend can be, anyway. I don't mean to say this with spite, just to clarify that by "church", you don't mean the "Catholic" church, do you?
My bible study told me the Lord cast 7 demons out of Mary Magdalene (Lk 8:2). My reflection: only 7 demons??? He has had to cast out 70 times 7 from me, and he isn't finished yet. Mary M. is a great saint and example and shows Jesus felt comfortable breaking the taboo of recognizing the equality of women.
Greetings, Father Matthew. I'm a new parishioner (formerly RC) at St. Mary Magdelene's Anglican church in Toronto, Canada. Love this post. I'm considering ministry and finding your online ministry enlightening (without being "preachy" which is quite a feat).
Misogyny is a political ideology - similar to racism or anti-Semitism - that justifies and maintains the subordination of women by men. The fact of Mary Magdalene's ministry challenges misogyny in Christianity.
Sh couldn't have been the wife of Jesus because He was without sin.
You don't have to be married long before you end up in sin. Ha!
A woman can be such a challenge. Ha!

early christian scripture can't even decide if there is one god or thirty...
thirty would have been more fun

whats with the egg?
boomac62 3 years ago
Oooh, the egg. There's a great story behind that.

Luke 8:2 "and certain women, who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, out of whom went seven demons"
That's the clearest picture I can give of her.
Can any sinner say they are better than her?
If you're saved why waste your breath?

Have you read the gospel according to Mary Magalene or any other Gnostic gospels? If not, why not?

your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
How precious to [b] me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!

even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
