Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the military - my family and I write troops we've never met, send care packages to troops, and I have close friends in the military - this is just my view on the issue.
I can maybe understand not wanting military recruiters to show up at a high school, because:
1)A lot of high school kids don't always think things through as well as they should.
2)Some high schools would basically force students to attend an assembly for the recruiters, or place the recruiters in locations where they are hard/impossible to avoid (mine liked the cafeteria entrance).

I didn't say they can't think for themselves, I said a lot of them don't always think things through. Many of these people either get out of the military, or are miserable until they manage to get out.
As for making students go to assemblies - I don't know how most schools work, but I know my high school pretty much had a mandatory assembly whenever someone wanted to talk to the students; so I'm not "making shit up".

I didn't say they can't think for themselves, I said a lot of them don't always think things through. I know plenty of people who were mature enough to know what joining the military meant in high school, and I know plenty more who joined for the wrong reasons, found out it's more work, less fun, and less glorious than they were expecting it to be. Many of these people either get out of the military, or are miserable until they manage to get out.

Schools and colleges are there to train young people to do something with their lives, follow their dreams and skills. They aren't there as recruiting centers for prospective geniuses to be sent to die in illegal wars.
He makes a mistake comparing it to World War 2 because this situation is very different, this is USA sending good people to fight illegally for the USA's gain. WW2 was about HAVING TO fight for the stake of many countries that were being invaded.

Well, only for public school. I go to a Quaker school (I'm not Quaker though), and the military isn't allowed to recruit there because of Quakerism's religious principles. (Pacifism) Quakers would make up the entirety of the "religous/Christian left."

According to data from 2004, Californians get $0.79 back for every $1 of federal taxes they pay. So, if San Francisco and California were independent from the US, a lack of federal funding really wouldn't be too much of an issue in defending them from terror because they would have more money than before.
