  • wow amazing horse your a great trainer :) i wish mine was like that truley amazing x

  • @barryhook2 I live in near you!!

  • Nice shot at the bridge @ 2:05. Bet the horse is interested. Horse: "Holy crap that's a lot of traffic down there. Interesting equipment these humans have."

  • Outstanding work. I have been working with an incredibly "spooky" shetland. I'm just exposing him to anything he could come across throughout the course of his day. This Hackney mare is beyond where I want my Shetland. I want to feel comfortable with my 6 year old daughter driving him around other pedestrians, cars, tractors, and other horses. It's quite a process and the time you've spent on that mare is proven. Great work.

  • That is SUCH a cute town! Where is it?

  • @TheHorseLady1212 Andover in Hampshire

  • @barryhook2 Wow, I can't believe how near that is to where my dad lives (infact I've been there) Such a gorgeous little mare!

  • Really great work ,love to watch all your vids!

  • just like the NYC carriage horses...lots of cars and trucks.

  • @LastTree We train our horses to cope with heavy traffic and cars because this is what they could encounter in their daily lives, even in the countryside where you can get tractors and other machinery. Any horse, even one that is only worked in a field on a farm, could meet a 4x4, car, tractor or a hedge-trimmer at some point in their lives. We believe it is better that they have experienced situations like this, and can remain calm and happy, rather than be frightened by it.

  • wE Hhave a lidls near us lololol :)

  • haha lol u stoped at lidls

  • Why does it say 'runaway hackney mare'?

  • @Saartje05 This mare had bolted in harness before she came to us to be retrained - this video is showing that it is possible to retrain a horse with a problem and to give it the confidence to experience different hazards without panicking and running away.

  • @barryhook2 whats a 'bolted in harness'? also the video was beautifully done. it seems you guys have a great mindset for training these horses.

  • @redmoth121 Thanks for your comment - bolted is the same as run away (i.e. in blind panic, with the driver being unable to stop her, same as can happen whilst riding) - before this mare came to us she had been frightened whilst being driven and had run off with the carriage attached which made her run even more - this video shows her after training with us; she is now working happily and confidently in harness and is no longer frightened of the carriage behind her.

  • @barryhook2 The cart in the beginning (marathon) is far too big though. I think the combination would have been disqualifized here.

  • @Saartje05 Actually the carriage in the beginning is not a marathon competition vehicle - it is our purpose-built training vehicle with dual brakes. This one was made wider than usual so we could incorporate a walk-through between the two front seats to the back seats.

  • wow!! the little mare didnt seem to botherd about the heavy motoway traffic under the bridge.. kinda like my old little gelding.. im not a fan of horses in carts but you're horses seem happy to pull and look well cared for, so nice to see at least some people take good care of their cart horses!! :-)

  • I didnt know they have LIDL in the UK 0_o

    Thought it was german :D

  • @JaguarsShadow94 It is German but that doesn't mean Lidl isn't in other countries. We have Lidl in Holland too. And in Austria, Switzerland, etc.

  • I'm going to learn how to drive a cart this Friday! It is going to be on a mini Mare, her name is Wonder. :D

  • Good job with the mare. I was wondering, how to you deal with trotting them on the cement? Isn't it bad for their joints and hooves?

  • @CaliforniaBlonde000 Thanks for your comment. We always ensure that the horses are properly shod; the hoof itself is a natural shock absorber so it is essential to keep them in good condition. We have never had any lameness caused by trotting on the roads, either in our own horses or those we have trained. Most importantly you should only do as much work as the horse can manage physically whatever surface you are on, whether it is riding or driving.

  • We do a lot of our training in our arena and have miles of off-road tracks we use - these videos are brief clips of the DVDs we make for owners and most of them want to see how well their horse behaves in heavy traffic (i.e. on the roads). Recently we had a 3yo mare in for training who we did not feel was mature enough in her joints to cope with the work we would ask her to do, so she has gone home to be turned out, finish growing and is coming back to us in the spring to finish her training.

  • poor horse-idiot man!

  • @hanaippon And why's that? He's doing exactly the right thing. You're an idiot yourself.

  • Excellent work with this mare! I have a Division A Shetland I trained to drive- she's wonderful... I also was a professional driver in Downtown Atlanta Ga. USA- so I know how much work goes into making a road-safe savvy driving horse! Well done! Thanks for sharing!

  • such an amazingly bombproof mare!! :D

  • omg i thougt "lidl" is only in germany *smile*

  • @SuperSmilequeen No, it's all over Europe.

  • God I know that Ford and the town Andover well. Small world lol

  • LIDL xD

  • Nice Job Barry

  • After watching way too many videos of people with no understanding of horsemanship and hands of iron, I was delighted to find this video. Kudos.

  • Haha that was absolutely fantastic. I love the clip on top of the flyover - she was just sorta standing there like, "come on then what next??"

  • DUUUDE I wish I could do that with my horse, I'd pull into Mcdonalds and be like ya Ill have a cheesburger and my horse well err I guess he'll have water xD

  • There is a guy in our town who lost his drivers license so he ride his horse in a western saddle, and one day he went through the mcdonalds drive though on the horse. LOL! Best thing ever! Haha!

  • LMAO! xD Hey it works :P OMG did you know if your riding a horse drunk you can still be cited for "driving errr riding under the influence"? XD

  • @xXRockstarChickXx What happened to him? Hope the cops didn't get him, that's resourcefulness in the best way there.

  • it would of been hilarious if at 1:58 we just saw you come trotting down the hard shoulder of the motorway..now that would require a well behaved horse ha ha!!

  • I wondered what country your from. Its so beauitful. I love the houses. And the horses too! You are very good what you do in training. I am learning alot just watching your video's. Thanks so much from a fellow horse lover in Michigan U.S.

  • Thank you for your comments - we are based in Hampshire in the UK and are very lucky to have such wonderful countryside to drive in!

  • Beautiful mare! Very well behaved! ^^ i love the *clip clop clip clop clip clop* through the whole video :)

  • Shes really well behaved especially towards the end when the big truck went by! Willow (my horse) isn't too fond of big noisy things but shes getting better, she really is a credit to you aswell! well done :)

  • Awesome!

  • Well done! What a nice, quiet hackney. I've only ever seen one other hackney going that well.

  • Sainsbury's lol

  • That was really random with a visit to the Lidl x'D

  • What a stunning mare! Looks like a job well done :)

  • thanks for putting on a clearer video shes still going very well. is there still any chance of having a dvd because i never recieved it
