you are an amazing woman! I had a c section with my daughter in 2007 and am hoping for a vbac with our next! You have given me more confidence, thank you!!!!
Sitting here watching this video, less than 5 weeks away from the birth of our little baby girl makes me excited and hopeful that I can have a successful VBAC as you did. Thank you for your candidness, and thank you for allowing me to experience and share this amazing and beautiful experience.
thats incredible - you were sooooo calm and chilled through out WELL DONE... Hope i get to have a successful VBAC - Due in March... fingers crossed - i've had 2 prev c-sections... Congratulations she's gorgeous!
@cassandraluceroify My husband quit taping the birth after Lisette was born. I had a borderline 1st and 2nd degree tear that required 1 figure 8 stitch and some dermabond (a type of glue). I don't remember delivering the placenta (I was focused on the baby) but we donated it to a canine search and rescue team. They use them to train the dogs to locate dead people in disasters. It's hard to come by human tissue that doesn't come from a cadaver so we were glad to help out.
Every Mommy makes the same sound when they here there baby for the first time, its a mix of cry, an awwww, and a laugh.. =) Same sound I made with my sons.
Ty for pairing this it is so awesome it will help me to be able to finish the end scene of a comic book I am making. I am trying to be extremely graphic about it too.
Wow amazing! It gives me such hope to be able to see other moms like you! My dr delivered my daughter via "emergency" cesarean in May '09 and my husband and I are planning on TTC Jan '12 I pray I will have a VBAC for #2! thank you so much for sharing this!
congrats on your baby, she is beautiful! came out all eyes open...you did a great job.i am considering a vbac, due in june. i had my sonvaginally 11 years ago, and my cection daughter 2 yrs ago...having done both, i would prefer a normal vag delivery for sure! hopefully all will go in our favor for it.
I was so glad to see this video. I had a c section in July of 2010 and i have regretted it so much. I was so glad when i heard about a VBAC and i'm thrilled that with my next baby i will be able to have him/her naturally! I'm glad i'll be able to experience this.
Whitney, this was wonderfully inspirational! Had a CSEC in Feb 10 and looking forward to VBAC sometime in the future. Can I ask how much this baby weighed?
@mklsullivan I hope you've healed well from your c/s and wish you better luck next time around. My VBAC daughter weighed 8 lbs 6 oz - nearly 2 lbs heavier than my c/s babe. Plenty of moms in Altanta's ICAN chapter were labeled as being too small to birth babies and went on to VBAC babies bigger than their section babies. We've had quite a few 10 lbers and even an 11 lb baby VBAC! Just remember - fat squishes! ;)
@whitneysinclair i wish i can personally talktoyou about your vbac! i am trying for one in 3 weeksand my first birth was very very unfortunate. my water broke and i wouldnt dilate after 31 hours of natural then induction....we were scared for infection sowe agreed to csection. (forgive my connectedwords, my daugther broke off our space button) lol
@paprichaat5 i wrote to u a few weeks ago and april 25th i had my VBAC!!! my entire birthing experience was amazing to say the least. i loved it and would love to repeat it if i could. YAYY TO VBACS!
WAs this at Emory Hospital ? I plan to use Dr. Tate for the birth of my next child, but when i called the hospital to aks about video taping, they say they didn't allow it . I see the Dr in your video, and am assuming he didn't mind though ? I think this gives him 9and the hospital) good advertising,if anything .
That was beautiful! i hated watching the doctor clean her off and not give her to you right away when i deliver a baby the mother is the first person to pick it up i think she should have been given to you sooner!
@MarleighGraceHein Thanks for watching. After the initial stimulation, they gave her to me for skin to skin time. Then my hubby cut her cord and got some skin to skin time. It was at least an hour until she was weighed and she didn't get a bath until we took her home. All in all, I was happy with how little separation there was this time around. :)
@MrsCordova1113 Congratulations on your upcoming baby. Just remember, while I seem calm on the outside, inside I was screaming "Why the hell did I want to VBAC?" That feeling lasted only a few minutes, thankfully. Afterwards, it was all worth it and then some! ;)
You are amazing! I'm expecting my first baby (BOY!) in a couple of months and I'm incredibly nervous/scared when it comes to childbirth. After seeing your video and shedding a few tears, I couldn't be more excited to meet my baby! Your husband was such a wonderful support too...my husband is in the Navy so we can only hope that he will be there for our son's birth. :)
@MMJames85 Congratulations Mama-to-be! I hope your husband can make it, but definitely have a friend or two around who are supportive and not squeamish. Even supportive husbands need breaks. My supportive husband slept the better part of the night while my doula and mom kept me company and kept me focused. And make sure you have someone who will stay with you in the hospital for a day or so. It's so daunting being left alone with a baby, especially when it's your first. Best of luck!
I live in the Athens area and want a VBAC next time. I have looked into Dr Tate and even e-mailed him a couple times. Please, I would love to hear from you if you could. I could use the support from some one else. My husband only semi supports me having VBAC when I get pregnant again and My mother is 100% against it. I love my current OB but if he has not changed his mind on VBAC since ACOG changed it I was considering using Dr Tate. Any help advice or support you could offer would be great
i love your video.i had a c section with my daughter && it was so depressing to me that i didnt get the birth i really wanted=( my hospital doesn't support vbac..but your video has inspired me too go for what i want!beautiful birth..
@Pauline830 Don't rule out VBAC. I'm not sure where you live, but perhaps you could birth at home with a midwife. Alternatively, maybe you could drive an hour or so to a supportive hospital. Definitely check your local ICAN chapter for information and support. VBAC is better for the baby, for the mom and for all babies to come.
great vid, im expecting my 3rd baby in feb. just wondered why the doctor constantly had his fingers swinging around in ur vagina, looked abit wierd. i know they got to check but man he didnt leave ur bits alone!!!
@torasmith The doctor was doing "perineal massage." He believes that the stretching prevents tearing and lessens the need for forceps. I had a borderline first/second degree tear, which is pretty standard for a first vaginal delivery. If there is a next time, though, I'll decline it.
Thanks for sharing wonderful experience! Just hope ours is as pain free as you seem to make, you looked very focused! Well done all the best Sue & Steve.
@stevessoony2010 Thanks S&S. Don't get me wrong - it hurts. But it was SOOOOO much better than my section and truly was a transformative experience. Wishing you both the best!
i love how involved the father and the rest of the family was. seemed like a rather calm and loving birth. best way for a baby to enter the world is surrounded by a loving family. congrats!
Thank you so much for sharing your incredible experience. I recently gave birth to my first child in Feb of this year, and was fully expecting a normal birth, but unfortunately my little one had become stressed and I had to have a emergency c-section. It was a very traumatic experience as my bub had merconium aspiration syndrome and had to be rescusitated. I never even went in to labour, so I am still scared about having a natural birth for the next one. your video was so beautiful and reasuring
@hastj73 I'm so sorry you had such a difficult first delivery. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees with birth. Why did they section you? It sounds like your babe was in distress. Anyway, no two pregnancies or deliveries are alike. I was terrified that I'd never go into labor on my own or that I'd have low fluid again, but everything went really well. I hope the same for you next time around.
@whitneysinclair, yeah, unsure as to why Ethan became stressed, he was 10 days overdue, and as I said I never went in to labour. I was due to be induced on the Sunday, but he stopped moving on the Wednesday, so that was when they decided to act straight away. The worst thing was hearing them perform CPR on him when he came out, then having him in NICU for 4 weeks. I have now watched your birth and also a C-section being performed, and really hope I can go natural next time.
@hastj73 Wow, it sounds like it was a miracle that you got him out in time. I rarely hear of a good outcome when the babe stops moving. There is no reason to believe that what happened last time will happen again. I hope that things go much better next time!
clinically squating can help increase the dilation by up to an inch more than laying supine (on back), also when squating gravity helps with the push too, the downside is it's not a comfortable position for the midwife or the obstetrician
@tubeflashinko You are right about squatting. My doc was open to me pushing in that position but when the time came, I completely forgot. Maybe next time. ;)
Haha, you sure make me feel better, thanks. Why do you have your delivery in a usual room? I was told mine would be in an operating theatre, any idea why? Do you have to breast feed your baby straight after it's born?
@123youhaha Sorry I missed your questions. From your spelling it looks like you're not in the US. I'm not sure why your doc would require you to be in an operating room. Are you trying for a VBAC? If so, they may want you in the OR in case of uterine rupture. That is a very rare complication, though, so don't worry. You don't have to bf the baby right away but it's a nice bonding moment and the nipple stimulation also helps to contract the uterus to deliver the placenta.
Thanks for your advice :) We have already found a midwife and I could also use the support of my husband. I guess it isn't as bad as many 1st timers would expect? Haha.
I have just 1 more concern if you don't mind, is it pain? I mean when your vagina stretches to allow the baby to come out. It scares me :((( please advice :)
@123youhaha Well, yes, it can be painful (though not always). But the pain passes quickly and you forget about it soon afterwards. Look into natural childbirth coping techniques like Lamaze or hypnobirthing. Even if you end up needing pain relief, it's good to be prepared to go without. The pain won't kill you and won't last forever. Don't be scared. You can do it. :)
A big congrat's, you looked like you had a great dr/midwife. I to had a c-section with my first due to the fact that he was breech, i'm now 26 weeks pregga's with my second and going to attempt a VBAC .... i'm a little scared, although i 'm up for the challenge!! You did great did you gave any pain relief or an epidural??
@lionsrhome Thanks! I used a paracervical block for pain relief. That is where the OB (not anesthesiologist) injects a numbing solution directly into the cervix. It deadens the pain of the contractions but allows you to feel your legs as well as the pressure of the contractions. Not many doctors do them anymore.
Good luck on your birth. Please check out ICAN for support on your journey. It helped me immensely. You CAN do this! :)
wow that's amazing I'm a man and that looked painful I can only imagine how painful it was for you.but it seems like it's all worth it at the end. but the one thing I don't understand why do the doctors handle the baby as if it was a toy they grab her grind the towel on her body seems like the baby is to fragile to go threw all that but I guess they know what they are doing, anyway congratulation
@allensanchez1990 Yes, vaginal birth did hurt but much less than my surgical delivery. With my c-section, I was on morphine at the hospital followed by a week of Percocet and 2+ weeks of ibuprofen at home. It makes sense considering my OB cut through layers of fat & muscle & completely removed my uterus to sew up the incision. With my VBAC, I required 1 stitch & took ibuprofen for a few days.
@allensanchez1990 Regarding the baby, they are rubbing her to dry her off & to stimulate her to cry & clear her lungs. Newborns are surprisingly strong. You have to support their heads when you hold them, but you don’t have to treat them like eggs.
this video made e cry. what a beautiful baby girl u have. i have been tryig t have a vbac i am no pregnant with my 3rd baby. and i am praying that i can get my vbac
@videolver2 The baby was just fine. Her Apgar scores (measure the baby's health on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being best) were 9 and 9. You don't get much healthier than that. :)
@aidansee - Thanks for your comments. Breast size doesn't impact the quantity of milk you make and breast size typically goes up again after birth. Mine went from an A cup to B cup with the milk. I think I have a smaller than average storage capacity due to my small size, but that's easily overcome by nursing more often. I nursed my first daughter for 22 months and am doing just fine with this one. She is gaining weight gangbusters, just like her big sis did. :-)

was the baby okay after all the waiting?

@videolver2 The baby was just fine. Her Apgar scores (measure the baby's health on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being best) were 9 and 9. You don't get much healthier than that. :)

I wonder if small breasts effetc quantity of mother milk?
aidansee 1 year ago
@aidansee - Thanks for your comments. Breast size doesn't impact the quantity of milk you make and breast size typically goes up again after birth. Mine went from an A cup to B cup with the milk. I think I have a smaller than average storage capacity due to my small size, but that's easily overcome by nursing more often. I nursed my first daughter for 22 months and am doing just fine with this one. She is gaining weight gangbusters, just like her big sis did. :-)
