  • 4:30 to actual get to it

  • love your shirt dude

  • That is awsome

  • I wonder if he missed those notes 'cause the game didn't pick it up or because he sucks at his own Guitar Hero game

  • awesome

  • Nice work, but damn you talk way too much...

  • Oh, and mindlessprimitive's name suits him well, don't you guys agree?

  • How can anyone dislike this?

It isn't even about how this fanmade Guitar Hero compares to the original, it's about this guy doing what he loves to do and programming his own game and designing his own hardware interface to accommodate plugging in a GH controller. The game is a little rough around the edges, but he just did something awesome that most of us don't even have the know-how to do.

And that makes you a rockstar in my eyes.

  • the only difference between a ps3 or xbox and the c64 is the feeling, it is something special something you like because of the simplicity and endless things you can do with it ..

The c64 stands for freedom, for the beginning of the computer-age! And i want to stay a part of the beginning for ever!

  • the funniest Guitar Hero Ever. nice job.

  • 4:32 Pokemon song from yellow, blue, red, and blue

  • @Skillernika no I think it´s from zelda

  • Cant believe kids today comparing the ps3 to the c64 - Lets just say its not even close. The c64,AMIGA and spectrum were computers - not consoles - I own a ps3 & 360 and really enjoy them - But these early machines will never be beaten in my eyes - And if it wasnt for these machines, there would be no ps3 or 360.

  • Retroprogramming kicks ass!

  • @LeifKeovox Vous êtes chiant avec ces messages, si c'est juste pour faire sur Youtube efface ton compte.

  • That is pretty awesome... :D

  • can i play this with an ordinary c64 joystick and waths the controls then?

  • I love the c64 WAAAAAAYY better than any system. It's amazing and way better than PS3, for example, with the c64 you can make ur own games if u can't find any that u like! With Ps3 you can't do that!

  • I think that needs to be calibrated a little more... haha

  • Nice PSX64 interface. Too bad my dad gave our C64 to a museum in California lol.

  • @v4sh101 WOW

  • Now imagine going back in time via a time machine with Guitar Hero and the plastic guitar.....your own commercial, and so much more...you'd be rollin in fame/money and have a product released way before it's time. LOL Poor Harmonix. (And before anyone says I meant to say activision, no I didn't..)

  • connected the what to what?!

  • GREAT WORK !!!!!!!!

  • haha thats awesome...good work indeed.

  • This is when I can truthfully say I have RESPECT for geeks.

    You own, dude.

  • heck!, let the c64 rest in peace.

  • muy buenoooo!! yo tengo mi comodore aca alado mio, pero esta rota, la estoy itnentando arreiglar jaja

  • Re: mindlessprimitive (PS3 is better. end of story.)

Do you really think you'll be using your PS3 in 28 years time? Because that's how old the C64 is now, and there are still so many people still using them, including myself.

This video is not meant to be a C64/PS3 face-off to see which is the best machine. In a way it just proves how little things have changed since the mid 80's; the fact that a modern game can be reverse-engineered to function on a near 30 year old machine. Impressive stuff.

  • I used to own a Commodore 64... I played Zakk McKraken so much! Also that Baja California racing game... This was in the mid 90's , lol.

  • great work

  • Genious ! ! !

  • NEVER THOUGHT ID SEE A COMMY SCREEN ON AN HDTV

  • you shred

  • he stop talking in 7:02 :[

  • 1000 times better than on ps3

  • Is that a plasma? That would be image burn :O

  • AWESOME! :O

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • i know what i'm seeing is real, i just still cant believe someone has done this lol. Great Work the legend lives on ....

  • where can I get this when it is finished?

  • That's both really funky and really lame at the same time :o)

  • Awesome old-tech skills, respect!

  • I´m sorry but I dont´n speak english. Realmente te has trabajado el juego. Impresionante, bien hecho :-)

  • @TheRocky627 Google translate, dude!

  • @EendjeKwak Bedankt maatje!

  • @TheRocky627 :D No hay de qué! (Espero que esto sea una buena traducción.)

  • WOW O.O this is awesome

  • Hell yeah!

  • Genius My Brutha !! ! !! AMazing stuff bro..Too bad Comm64 and Atari back then didnt come up with something like Guitar Hero in tos days.

Im still a little overwhelmed how you managed to interface all that with such old gear. ANd the Title screens and graphics looked great. Fab..

  • Oh I just saw the run"...",8 so because of the * ,8 * you have the floppy disk drive ok

  • Hey, you have the same Commodore 64 model as mine! Are you working with data cassettes, or floppy disks? I have the 1541 5.25'' floppy disk drive and everything works fine! I'm amazed to everything you did!! Nice work!

  • you should be a genius

  • 6502 blah......Get a 6809 and a Trs-80 Coco1/2/3 and it'd be so much better.....

  • That was so PHAT! Great job!

  • XDXDXDXDXD the game ....

  • shit stix.! I thought u were using an emulator and then you panned to the c64..

Now to piss u off a bit... if you'd have been around back in those days i'd be looking at this kids and thrashing them at guitar hero.

.. oh and you'd be a very rich man by now :)

  • k, so what does one do if they do not own a PS guitar? what keys on the keyboard are used? I use CCS64 for emulation but I couldn't figure out how to play it there.. :(

This looks fun anyway. The only times I got to play GH was when I went to my friend's house.

  • the c54 doesnt have digital sound but the sid is really advanced for the time

  • wow that is awsome

  • Where's the hyperspeed 5 man.. I can't play like that.. I needz mah HyperSpeed!! LOL

i might gonna get an Commodore, just for the fun of it.. LOL

  • The sound is better than the NES

  • wow.. this is awesome

  • it would have been a lot better if you just shut the fuck up

  • SID chip and AY chip music are awesome, so i would say this game is better than the original. Whats so impressive though is the interface considering it would convert ps and ps2 controllers to almost any old console I want to buy 1 please

  • that really kicks ass

  • c64 my first computer love... hahahaha guitar hero on c64 u rock man! great vid great work

  • Reminds me of Klax :D

  • commodore 64 dumbass

  • OMG NINTENDO644444444444444

  • That's awesome!

  • Cool Music there. Can your Commodore 64 connect to the internet.

  • because the commodore 64 is better than a ps3 =) 0,98 MHz --- 64 KB-RAM --- great sound --- super grafics --- and if you don't find a game, which interests you, you can write one (or more) yourself on Basic. Hrhr...

  • He creates, you talk. That's quite different. I see art in this piece of software.

  • C64 was part the golden age of gaming. There was so much creativity back then.

  • I really enjoyed your video and application! Nice to see that people still embrace the CBM64 after so many years! Great!

Brings back a lot of memories to me! :-)

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Love the video. And love people still making soft and apps for the C64.

Not only the best selling machine, but a true revolution in home computing and computer production.

Real enginering, they made their own chips with a superb performance.

VIC II and SID in less than one year !!!.

They outperformed the 6800 and the MOS 6510 was also a best seller found in every place, not only in the 64.

  • Great Work for Alltime Classic Computer.

Greeting from Turkey's Commodore Computer Fans..

  • Comment removed

  • Didn't he prove already it works?

  • Great job dude, 5 stars video

  • how are connecting the commodore to the flat screen monitor

  • with a cable duhh...

  • a commodore 64 has a composite hook up not a vga.

  • What a wonderfully insane idea. I love it to bits! Well done :)

  • i still have this machine in the loft

    been there 15 years haha

  • Haha! Nice work man, very cool!

  • what the F wheres the next song

  • does this work on a c64 emmulator

  • You need to improve software: Add cool flame effect when you hit notes, play 'miss sound' and mute intrument channel when you miss a note.

  • Great work!

  • Brilliant. The c64 is a classic. Great job.

  • Pretty sweet setup, man. I swear, this is the kind of thing MacGyver does when he's REALLY bored...

  • if you released this game back in the day before good video games, you'd be a millionair.

  • Back in the day, before good video games? Are you implying there were no good video games from the Commodore 64 era?

  • Next project. Turn C64 into a time machine. ;P

  • Now I really want to get my dad's commodore 64 (It did not work for a decade and I fixed it), but he needs it for his files and such. I love this idea dude, you are my hero.

  • This is quite epic. The midi actually sounds cooler than the original Zelda overworld theme.

  • @riserobot

    It's not midi, it's a sid file.

  • This is pretty cool

  • nice!

  • When you upload SID songs whatever they are called on your computer, can you play them on your typical windows XP computer?

  • dude you're a fuckin' genius

  • make one for the bbc micro

  • Because of this game, I wanted to make rockband for the SEGA master system.

  • If you do, i would play

  • It would be pretty much the same graphics and sound but it would have all the features rockband has......and would load CD speed.

  • yes!

  • imagine if guitar hero actully came out for the Commodore 64

  • amiga 500 was better!

  • No need to be rude! Didn't your parents teach you manners?

  • @phpboxxx

    C64 is five years older!

  • @porcocrosso81

yes you are right , man :D

even though i own both amiga 500 and c64, i like amiga 500 more, thus my dramatized comment :)

  • @phpboxxx

I think both machines have their own distinctive charme.

It's however a shame that the Amiga retro community is way more inactive than the C64 community. I'd really like to see some new demos or projects like this on the A500.

  • Yes, its a shame. Though, there is one notable thing happening and made by the oldschool amiga community. namely AROS, a port of the amiga os architecture to new hardware. With backwards compatibility with old original 3.1 code. It does not really help increase the usage of the old machines, but it proves that the amiga community is not dead yet :)

  • @phpboxxx

For me, Amiga was always about the hardware, not the OS. I bought an Amiga 500 not because of the highly buggy OS1.3, but the superb graphics and sound.

I'd really like to see people who get the most out of the old machines. Just look at the C64 demoscene. If an Amiga Demo runs only on 060, I think it's not very impressive.

  • Stop talking so much.

  • Really impressive. The long load times sure bring me back. :)

  • Want.

  • guitar player for sixteen years here. excellent. love it

  • Just...

    COOL, MAN!

  • I never comment on youtube... but had to make one on this video very nice!

  • dude ur like a computer master

  • AWSOME!!!!

  • That is very impressive. And, it's great to see modern ideas being ported to the classics.

Now, I don't want to whet your whistle on the C-64's capabilities. However, in my library of disks, I do have what "could" possibly be the world's first MP3 player. Whomever created the program managed to port nearly a minute worth of ll Cool J's I Can't Live Without My Radio song into that tiny 64 k of RAM. It also has Blinded By Science. But, the file's partially corrupt.

  • and the graphics surpass xbox 360!

  • and the ps3! :D

  • thats awesome man

  • I am very impressed, and don't for a second underestimate just how much work this must have taken! This would be very cool if Guitar Hero wasn't so lame (I'm a REAL guitarist :p).

  • Well done! I love the interface. Way to keep old hardware alive! -pm

  • machinae supremacy uses sid

  • It's so cool that there's still people out there who are into these old charismatic machines; *and* still actually developing for them.

  • I'm impressed. I am very impressed.

  • This is awesome!

I have a parked Commodore 64 here, it just lacks a key and a converter to plug on my tv, but I guess it still works fine. I'll give it a try anyday :)

  • Commodore 64c =) I had one!

  • Wow! good work man

  • holy shit great work !

    I wish i had Commodore -.-

  • asshole.

  • zelda is ownage not bad sound u got out of that old technology

  • thats sooo cool

  • G E N I U S !!!

    This is simply GREAT!

  • omg you really are a genius... i want to play this! im trying to get my old commodre i have somewhere out of his dust and try to.. somehow play this game on it!

  • could you use the keyboard

  • Sweet work but that sure looks awfull to try getting the notes right :P

  • Wow, awesome Sid music. Impressive.

    C64 rules

  • I have a C64 that used to be my mom's. It works but I can't hook it up to my tv monitor because I'm missing a piece. =(

  • unfortunately I have the same problem :(

where could I get that piece?

  • What peice are you on about?

The RF cable or the RF connector?

  • wow!!!!!!! yar very smart mate!!!

  • You are pretty hot!! So smart!

  • cool!!!

  • Nice One :)

  • This is just plain rad.

  • Great demo. I grew up on the Commodore 64. You could have cut out half of the dialogue tho and still got the explanation across to viewers. Too long.

  • C64 REBORN!!!

  • bastard . guys like u dont appreciate old consoles. if there was no PS3 or 360 or Wii. You were still Insulting this

  • I'm not a part of this specific project still i can tell you the purpose of the project is not to make a better version.

I can guarantee these guys know more about software than anyone on EA-games. People like that learn from us ,not the other way around.

  • Do you think he did all that work just to play guitar hero? Are you kidding?I rather think he did to demostrate it can be done, to demostrate HE can do it!

He's an HACKER, that's WHY he did it.

  • @spyox04

It's the difference between being a consumer sheep and a person actually creating something. Besides, the C64 is way cooler than Xbox360 and PS3 together!

  • That's really cool!

Does it count the number of notes combo'd?

  • That was the sexiest thing EVER!

  • oh my god you have made such a wonderful work!

my full respects on your crazy retro adventure. i'm loving it.

    amazing!

  • This is fantastic. I love seeing how much people can still do with old hardware.

  • thats amazing

  • awesome

  • Chiptune <3

  • This is just to cool to be true, but it is. Very well done, you rock.

  • what's with the notes getting closer together as they get closer to the front os the screen?
