@boxmaster3 Your have to add methylene to get the color!! If you don't add methylene, you just get smoke, not colored smoke

@budakengineer yes it can be but getting pure potassium nitrate is a little difficult (in my opinion). but you can make potassium chlorate at home with matchsticks easly (search it on youtube, their is a video about it)

getting the KClO3 out of matchsticks will give you really poor results and take you nowhere. If you just can't get Potassium Chlorate easily, the best (and most efficient) thing you can do is building a "chlorates cell"; Which requires primary knowledge on chemistry, but stills really funny thing to do. Just do some googlein', there are some quite good and cheap tutorials on how to build one, and the only chemical you'll need is potassium chloride (KCl), that you should get at any drugstore
