Travelers like adventure on tv, not where and when they themselves are traveling. The old travel posters for seaplane travel were certainly romantic and exotic, but low altitude flying in turbulence and rough seas landings are no fun. People flocked to the new DC-6.

Carrying capacity.

A bit of a flop the old Shetland as I recall but not so much of a flop as a certain American 'flying' boat made of er.... wood. It wasn't actually spruce. LoL. Apologies BG, had to get that one in.

Hey come on dart, at least the Spruce Goose and the Shetland didn't kill test pilots. Unlike the B-29, although the best USA bomber of WWII, it nearly killed Boeing off.

Not only was it nearly an also ran it was a murderer ( of test pilots ).
