If I were you and had the opportunity to experience JJ...i WOULD LOOK INTO KOSEN JUDO. It's the pre WWII Judo / Kano Ryu Jujutsu that Maeda taught the Brazilians
This is cool..I like how this guy treats a traditional martial arts dojo like his home away from home, even though he's not a native he's allowed to train with masters because he is respectfull and open minded. This is just what I was looking for, thanks for the vid!
I kind of get annoyed when people refer to Bjj or Gracie Jujitsu as Ju Jitsu. When people see BJJ grappling they are wrongly led to believe that that is what Ju Jitsu is. Do u agree? It's good to see traditional Jujitsu, with emphasis being on self defense and using opponents strength, force balance against them through throwing, striking dangerous parts and locking etc..
@mrdubcrazy: Gracie Jiu Jitsu/BJJ has self defense techniques from the standing position, they resemble Japanese Jujutsu/Judo, its actually not too bad. Problem is most BJJ schools dont teach that aspect anymore. I used to do Judo and Japanese Jujutsu as well as Ninjutsu, although pretty much now in days emphasis in most MA schools is more on groundwork.
@mrdubcrazy That's acctually the exact reason i made sure to type "JAPPANESE Jiu-Jitsu" into the search bar..yet i still get "BJJ armbar technique" vids..I hope to one day be able to train in traditional Jiu-Jitsu, not this over-rated MMA crap where some punk walks into a 24 hour fitness, has a guy show him how to kick a bag and do a triangle-choke, and walk out the same day a "Muay Thai and BJJ expert."
@Saforge If you type the word "Jiu-Jitsu" of course you're gonna get "BJJ armbar technique." You have to type the words Japanese "Jujutsu" which is the correct spelling, not "Jiu Jitsu."
@44excalibur that is true and im not saying your wrong but some clubs will maintain the jiu jitsu spelling just to show that they were founded around that time. Thats what my one does
I respect BJJ but i don't understand why no attention is paid to the original Jujitsu from Japan, one flaw i found with BJJ is that they teach you that all fights end up on the ground. This is true to a certain degree, whereas in traditional Jujitsu i have been taught how to deal with multiple attackers without putting myself on the ground, vulnerable to kicks in the head from the attackers accomplices.
@usmc030092 it really helps if you speak the language or at least try to. I know in Okinawa there has been a lot of problems. I know both Okinawans and Marines and I hear mixed things.. best thing you can do is make an effort to speak the language, be polite and respectful and give it a go.. you can't ask for much more... Good Luck mate
@usmc030092 probably most of the people will be quite hostile(but they won't express it openly). having good manners restraining your emotion would be good i think
@Bushiey bjj(brazilian jiu -jitsu is martial arts because meda from japan came to brasil and he tough helio gracie jiu -jutsu and helio later perfected jiu-jutsu with easy moves for a smaller guy to defeat a larger guy which late change until jiu-jitsu adapted from jiu-jutsu bjj is a matial art effective and efficient!! :-)
@blackavail23 HELIO GRACIE created easy moves for smaller guys "beat" bigger guys? LOL What about japanese and all asians ? Aren´t they the smallest people on Earth ? I think Helio´s concept is nothing new...because that´s the WHOLE point in JUJUTSU..and Judo Newaza too! Ok he evolved the ground work abit from judo newaza...but is goes a long way to say he created something , especially from scracth, which he didn´t !!! I do practice JJJ+BJJ (OR BRAZILIAN JUDO NEWAZA)...awesome combination!
When I get over there U will have to introduce me! That would be a dream come true, training with those guys. They have all my respect, I mean thats were our Jujutsu come from (sort of).
I have trained with Soke Fumon Tanaka and his daughter Midori Tanaka a couple of years back. Very humbling!

Good video.
I really hate the fact they call "Brazilian" jujitsu a martial art. It's more of a sports fighting style.
I studied Shotokan-Ryu when I was in Japan. Military Martial Arts, great style.

@Bushiey I think the fact that BJJ was tested for a long while in no rules Vale Tudo style matches speaks for itself...
...Also, love the 'see the Chinese writing behind me' bit was pretty funny.
