Al parecer ese sonido se debe a la influencia bascona sobre el castellano, ya que la mayoria de los administradores en epocas posteriores eran bascones y los mismos castellanos eran originalmente una mezcla de bascones, cantabros y astures. P.e. "facer" (hoy, hacer) se pronunciaria fatser y no fazer, segun tengo entendido.
