I saw this commercial for the first time in a movie theater and was awestruck. The sound and music and visual effects (for the time) just really worked in that setting. I've been looking for this ad for ages, embarrassed it's been here for 4 years.
As I watch this amazing commercial listening to that haunting music with Edward Hermann narrating wonderfully, the hairs on my arms are raised and I have tears in my eyes. This truly is an amazing commercial and if I could Facebook-friend it, I would because see it after almost 15 years is like finding a lost love.
This commerical is from circa 1995 because they tweaked it when they added the Durango to the line-up. I remember seeing it often during NHL broadcasts on Fox. It is an amazing commerical and thanks for posting. I have been looking for this commercial on the web FOR YEARS and am very grateful to finally see it again.
This is when Dodge was becoming ascendent again - the LH platform becoming fantastic before Daimler and their French designer interfered! If only Chrysler could go back in time.
I remember this commercial back when I was in high school in the late 90's, it was considered sleek and eye catching. My first car was a 98 Dodge Avenger Sport, and to be honest this commercial caught my eye when I first saw it. This brings back great memories of the 90's....those were good times.
That commercial was awesome!! Maybe it's me, not sure, but back then the car commercials really sucked you. i never got tired of that commercial. The morphing really got me including with that music!
That commercial was awesome!! Maybe it's me, not sure, but back then the car commercials really sucked you. i never got tired of that commercial. The morphing
never thought i'd see this commercial again. the only one that stuck with me as kid and made me look into dodge as i got older. wish they'd make more like this.
Best car commercial ever made hands down, they need to hire they need to show this to the modern day design and ad teams and say make this happen again!
There was this one Dodge commercial where there was an SUV or truck driving through a forest, dodging deer and boulders. Anyone know what I'm talking about and where I can find it? It was sometime in the mid to late 90's and had a nice soundtrack to it.
Chrysler did such a great job when these series of commercials came out. I remember watching it as a kid and was "WOW" after it ended. Chrysler knew how to bring the confidence to the consumer. Long live Chrysler if anything Ford and GM should be taking notes from this commercial to bring that confidence back into their companies. What I really want to know is what music is it?
I remember seeing this commercial on a rainy Sunday night while watching the X-Files in the mid 90s. I was totally captivated by the animation, the narration and the tingling soundtrack. Through the sheer seductiveness of this commercial, I owned the Stratus (1995), the Avenger (1997) and the Dakota (1999). Guess what color?
@I275westflorida God yes. Those Nazi bastards along with their Vichy French design consultant (who gave us the PT Cruiser and subsequent ilk) killed Chrysler.
What happened to them? I mean it was just 10 years ago GM and Chrysler seemed on the verge of a huge comeback. Then the early 2000s came and went and now they're bankrupt! They should have focused more on quality rather than hyperbole. Sad to see them on death's door...and particularly GM axing Pontiac. It may be too late for these companies to ever really make a complete comeback. They're damaged goods in my mind even though I loved them growing up.
@andybuzz2u Very true. i was reading in a Toyota management book and they have said the only American car maker that poses a real, Honda like, threat to them is Chrysler.
@andybuzz2u for sure. i was reading in a toyota management book; in that they described how afraid they were about the developments of chrysler in general both then and now.
@andybuzz2u very true. Toyota openly admits in their management books that during this time, they were scared of Chrysler as they were making cars and managing the company on or above par compared to everyone else.
I have the poster car for dodge from this time period. my '96 stratus looks just like the one in the vid- alloy wheels, body colored door handles, fog lights (all options) and yes, its the cherry red
This is also one of my favorite car commercials. Correct me if I'm wrong, are the cars shown in the order that they were introduced? Viper-'92. Intrepid-'93. Ram-94. etc. That would make sense given the whole "time" thing.
The people who say this commercial sucks are the young kids. They don't understand the time period. Dodge was a car company completely modernizing it's fleet and this commercial was the stage it used to showcase each one. The last one was always a world premier; never before seen. They usually didn't give you much of a glimse just to keep the mystery. It was even played during the Super Bowl.
Communicating the philosophy, vision, and mission of 'The New Dodge' circa 1997, with dramatic transitions and music, this is one of my favorite car commercials of all time. The QuickTime version can be found at the Web site of Bill Bennett, the cinematographer.
@rzotz I agree - I was wrong - this wasn't circa 1995; it was circa 1997 just before the Durango came out in 1998 because they tweaked the commercial to include the Durango the next year.
He's not talking about the pricing structure. He's saying the Viper is the showpiece car. So it should be at the end, not the beginning. Putting it first makes everything after seem less impressive. Build to a climax is what he's saying, and he's right!
THE BEST Car commercial ever made. Why don't they make profound commercials like this more often? I remember seeing this years ago on TV and it was actually more enjoyable to watch than the TV's regular program. :)
Totally agree with you not one of those shouting at you brag brag commericials.. I.E.That guy that does the Toyota truck commericials is thoroughly annoying !
I remember this was the commercial that got me into film. I was so young and this commercial was so dramatic it moved me. I knew I had to be able to do that. One of the best commercials ever.
Truly a excellent commercial (just got a fresh set of goosebumps)!! The advertising company should get a standing ovation. I still remember how it made me stop in my tracks to watch all the details. This one really passed the test of time!! rw93090- You are right, and I seem to remember this was put on the air just before the 98s were introduced
This is a great commercial, one of the best I've ever seen, but what I've really been looking for is its sister... There was another Dodge commercial, released concurrently if I recall accurately, using the same imagery, but with slightly different music and different narration. It ended with, '...the freedom to be different.' That one IS the greatest commercial I ever viewed. Until it's found, though, bravo for this one!
Best auto commercial ever.. goes through product line like no other commercial ever did.Bravo!!!!

It's about time.
And finding faster ways to take new ideas from drawing board to reality.
It's about the search for methods to make machinery last longer.
Or make a long drive seem shorter.
It's about making time to look beyond the obvious.
And most of all, about taking time to listen.
All things change through time.
Cars, trucks, ... and a company.

Only one flaw in this commercial
The lineup, and how it is used.
Why start with Viper?
That's your MoneyShot!
Start with Neon or Caravan
Build up to the Viper.
The Viper, or Ram, come at the end.
Brilliantly produced.
Just missed on the easy stuff
toyotas2006 3 years ago 2
The intent was to exhibit the vehicle line more than give an orderly pricing structure
- Putting the Viper first is more of an attention grabber and more impact than the Neon or Caravan would have..

Viper, Intrepid (which is a 1997 because it was restyled in 1998) Ram, Neon, Avenger, Stratus, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Dakota.
Durango is not there because it made its debut in 1998. So this commercial had to be made in 1997.
