thank you for the compliment.....yes I believe I was being inventive as a teen....I invented an electrical fuse that lit up when it opened the circuit, so you could easily see which fuse needed replacement....now you can buy them in your local auto parts store.....inventing is "easy" compared to marketing.
Great stuff! You have a fascinating mind-very mechanical. Were you doing this kind of stuff as a child/teen? Good luck with your future endeavors :-))
The drill safety device can be applied to other electric power tools. Tools like grinders and circular saws have a lot of inertia that would hurt you even after the impending "lock up" was detected and the power shut down. The drill was the best use of this idea.
I tried selling it to Black and Decker. They stold it from me and used it in one of their drill presses. I learned about marketing my inventions the hard way.
That drill thing is genius would it work for any power tool that works with rotation and torque because if you could adapt it for that I could see it being hugely marketable to all kinds of businesses that use power tools like that, Just a thought.
What a thrill it must have been to be on the Tonight show with Johnny -- back when it really meant something!!! Were you freaking out when it wouldn't close around his leg? Johnny is a gentlemen who treats you like the nice young mensch you were, as compared with Real People which seems to be a bit more at your expense.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts...and yes ..whatever happened to the good old days...where things like the Johnny Carson Show, meant something....
Hi, yes...if they would install these behind each seat...but that would be too costly...better to settle a DVT lawsuit...that's how big business thinks..
My best friend has invented some games including Fingerhockey,Cultivation,Strange Game, and a cool Risk style board game but with some key differences.Sadly not much marketing success.Any tips !
hi doggysector. I was on in the good old days 1/4/79. I continue to invent. Please check out my Cool Touch Oven Rack Guard by googling Jazinnovations (I can't post the url here).
I also do consulting mechanical engineering and prototype development. Burt 845 298 4229
burt, good grief I know it's been a few years since you were on the show but 2 questions : did any of these inventions ever amount to anything? I have seen the FIRST ALERT weather clock in SHARPER IMAGE STORES was that you? and second : why in the world would you expose your inventions without having them patented first???
I recently, have successfully marketed The Cool Touch Oven Rack Guard, which keeps you from getting those nasty hot oven rack burns, when you accidently touch the front edge of a hot oven rack. It's a Nomex fabric cover that snaps over the front edge of the oven rack and stays in the oven to be on guard all the time against such burns. Please google jazinnovations
Why do I just give away the ideas? The inventions I showed on Johnny, I had already shown to various companies, using disclosure agreements. I had no success with them. Disclosure agreements don't cost anything, compared to patents which may cost $4000...and both are merely evidence in court, if you decide to sue a company who you think has stolen your idea.
I asked him to put that in writing, so I could take that to the radio manufacturer and he said "no way".
The Sharper Image weather alert clock works off government broadcasted signals which were created by legislation pushed by special interest groups. That was something that was way beyond my ablility to achieve.
Hi, 2 good questions. I didn't get the weather alert clock radio to the market. Interesting story though. In order for my invention to be successful...to convince a radio manufacturer to produce it, I would have needed a local radio station to "agree" first, to send the alert signal during inclimate weather. I did talk to the general manager Of WABC radio in NY and he said he would be interested in sending the signal......>continued below
That was cool Burt. Its great to meet someone that was on the Carson show and actually see them.. How did it come to be you being on the show? Have you invented anything? Have any pattons? Who was the other guest when you was on?
