Where exactly did you march? I play on a college line, who has had much success with tracking. To say "fuck tracking" is an arrogant and inexperienced statement.
@jbmathwiz I've marched with finalist groups in DCA, DCI, and WGI. Perhaps I'm arrogant, but I'm NOT inexperienced. Tracking makes you so much better, yes, but it's so mind numbingly repetitive (and torturous for bottom 3 bass drums and the tenor line) that I can safely say I love tracking and fuck tracking at the same time.
And for the record, I'm certain that most people who have marched drum corps share my viewpoint.
@jbmathwiz No, it isn't at all. Saying "fuck tracking" is the same as me (a hornline member of a corps) saying "fuck circle-drill." My disdain for it holds none of my views on how it works. I absolutely hate circle drill blocks, but I know it works very effectively as a marching tool.
"Fuck tracking" is not an arrogant or inexperienced statement.
@slitherzpin Cadets march off the right. I think one year they had a weird time signature, and then the staff decided to just go off the right because it was easier. Or I could just be pulling that out of my ass...
@jbmathwiz Just to clarify, they step off with the right, literally, just to be different than everybody else haha. One day they were just like hey....lets step off with the right. I went to some clinic they had back in 09 and they told it to us as a bit of trivia. :)
@jbmathwiz I was at an experience camp and there was a staff member there/alum that said they started it in the mid 90's (95? if i remember correctly) and he said the idea was that they wanted to break the fundamental norms of drum corps, the basic place to start was to move beat 1 to the right foot, and from then on he called history
@jonnyeis Nope. '86. (I currently march under one of the drill writers for '86). I guess you're kinda right about "breaking the norms," but to sum it up they just wanted to do something different. It's not as deep as they make it out to be; at this point it's packaged with all the other traditions the Cadets have (the exact number which I've lost track of)
@slitherzpin from what i heard its to make the members focus on their technique more since they are doing exactly the opposite of what they learn. to make them think about what they do before they do it?
Wheee, tracking ;---;

What does tracking mean? And was this the Sumner show?
drumdude113 7 months ago
@drumdude113 Playing a book and marching but not doing the drill for it. Just getting the feet to match the hands better.
malcolmgetscrazy 7 months ago
@drumdude113 I Basically just taking really small steps forwards. It was the day of the Sumner show, 2PMish.
