I thoroughly enjoyed this beer, being interested only in the final product and its attributes, rather than wringing my hands over purity laws, be they German or Bavarian or whatever. I'm always for thinking outside the box, and Southern Tier brews are often found there.
i think this was made to shock. i agree with everything the panel said, it's a yummy beverage, but it tastes more like flavored coffee than it does like stout.
@AgileHProductions I just think brewers need to stay true to the beer craft, and use natural and real ingredients. I personally can pick out artifical ingredients if they are used liberally, like Southern Tier does. It's a shortcut to an "extreme" beer, like dogfish head does, they make extremem beers alot, but iv'e NEVER gotten an artificial taste from any of their beers, i believe they use all natural ingredients, or maybe they cheat a little bit, but not enough to throw a palate off.
This beer is disgustingly sweet and sickeningly over the top vanilla. I'd not even be interested in it as a desert beer and the first dude NAILED it calling it a novelty beer and mentioning that it tastes nothing like a beer.
@fatsachs of course you don't enjoy it....the only vanilla you enjoy is another man's vanilla LOL....fuckin spermivore
by the way, I seen the video you have up of your son, or AKA, your future daughter LOL....damn i can tell your kid is gay....You better lock his doors and windows up at night, otherwise he might just sneak out to be somebody's whore LOL
@SirkleMusic Get a like you fucking internet stalker. You're CLEARLY the one who is gay here, you're following me around Youtube like a fucking lost puppy you homo nigger! Hey everybody, this fucking guy stalks men around Youtube all day long, if you're gay and like nigger cock this guy SirkleMusic will suck you shriveled!
@fatsachs HAHAHAHA U MAAAAD? what happened to the FBI comin to investigate my computer, bitch? LOLOL you're so fuckin stupid...I knew you didnt do shit....fuckin white hillbilly cracker ass bitch....lookin like a mayonnaise jar with legs....go get a fuckin tan or somethin, hillbilly cracka jack....you're so white, you could make the milk in your fridge jealous
I agree with James on this one... I don't see what's wrong with having these added flavors, and the guy on the left knows what's up. For what it is, I'm sure it's delicious, and there's nothing in the rule book that says you can't add extra ingredients to make a great beer since we're not drinking according to German purity laws, as James said. I enjoy beer, and I would seriously love to have one of these for sure. It's a shame that Southern Tier doesn't send their brews out this way.
@AgileHProductions Indeed we do, but there are still plenty of beers I would love to try! I just paid an arm and a leg to get two Southern Tier Choklats to my house. :|
@sleepercell That's true dedication to the fine art of drinking! I still have too many beers around here that I need to try before I start importing them from other states. You should come to Columbus, Ohio for our mini-brewery tour of Elevator, Barley's, Gordon Biersch and Columbus Brewing Company - all located within a mile radius.
@AgileHProductions I am familiar with some local Columbus breweries. I actually was out there in November visiting a friend of mine at OSU. I'm planning on going back once all the snow melts.
May I humbly recommend a wonderful smoke beer by the name of "aecht schlenkerla rauchbier" It is a "marzen" that is just delicious from the town and pub of schlenkerla, Germany. If you have already heard of it I would love to see what you guys think of this beer.
@AgileHProductions Yep, I'm sure there are, but when it comes to beer, you have to speak from the heart. You can't just give a free pass because it's from a craft brewery.
Wow this review angered me a bit. So you can't take this beer out to a tailgate with your "bros" and be "manly" men. Even the guy who was more honest initially got "bro'd" out by the other guys down to an 8. Like the main guy said, if the end product is superb what's the problem with adding something else to make it taste better? Go back to Coors or Yeungling if this is the kind of review criteria you guys use on all your videos. Guy on the left seems to understand.
Nice approachable beer. possibly not that the flavors arent' authentic, but maybe that the added flavors are overdone a bit? can't taste the base malts because they have been buried. FYI - i'd bring this to a tailgating party :P i've brought Stone Imperial Russian Stout before. but yes, it is a desert beer that should be split and enjoyed in a small amount.
@voltrabbit7 I think some of the breweries in Maine do OK blueberry beers. They have excellent wild blue berrier native to that region. I have one from the Bar Harbour Brewing company, but it's only 3.5% abv and been sitting around for 4 years so it's probably not good anymore.
@voltrabbit7 I know this is a little different, but I found the Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier to be a little unsatisfying. I'd worry that a Blueberry beer would be similar.
@AgileHProductions (this is Mark Smith) I've tried the Jah-Va amd Mokah, both were incredible. The Blackwater Seriesare all imperial stouts, and of the three I've tried, I love them.
I don't get adams deal with this beer... who is it not a beer drinkers beer? We had this at a tasting that included imperial stout trooper, Boulevard BBQm, westy 12, multiple yeti's, hunupua's and several others... and all of us thought this was one of the top contenders....
High quality adjuncts like coffee, vanilla bean, chilis, cocoa can help heighten the natural flavors that are present in a beer. Like adding vanilla and caramel to a milk stout si going to enhance the natural sweetness.

@pastradul I liked it a lot, but I wouldn't call it a very versatile beer. There is definitely a time and place for a beer like this. I was surprised because Adam is usually the most forgiving judge. He must have been feeling a little feisty.

@PatriotsComing If we didn't wring our hands over the purity laws, then what sort of pretentious thing would we have left to talk about? :)
It's a valid point.

This beer is fake. It's made with artificial flavors. I can't believe more people can't taste that. Absolute garbage.

@sleepercell I have two good beer bar recommendations for Columbus, but that info is going to cost YOU a beer. ;)
Bob's Bar - The Cultural Hub of the Midwest
Winking Lizard
Both have great beer selections with tons of great Midwestern beers that you can't get on the West Coast.

One of the worst beers on the planet. You're better off pairing true creme brulee for dessert with Leffe or Grimbergen Blonde

I don't think Adam understands what flavors beers are about.
He's a purist, basically a purity law policeman.
This is a craft beer drinker's beer, it's not a Joe Six Pack slugger.

Way too much vanilla for me. The only beer I didn't care for from Southern Tier.
charvelgtrs 1 year ago
@charvelgtrs I'd call this a situational beer - good in the right situation. Let's have dessert!
AgileHProductions 1 year ago
@AgileHProductions
This beer is a dessert all by itself. There really isn't any reason to pair it with anything else, unless you have a crazy sweet tooth.
I think I might enjoy this beer if they mixed it with their Choklat Stout. I think that would be really good.
