I wonder how this game would look in today. it would probably end up being a call of duty clone like how duke nukem was. Or was it a halo clone I really don't know the difference other than the setting and that duel wielding.

What that robot T-bagging you? I couldn't get the hang of Robotron in the arcades, back in the 80's, but on XBL I quickly caught on. One of my favorite games, now.
the guy who made the 360s music visualizer&space girraffe& robotron 2084& tempest 2000 is behind robotron 64 as well. All of the above were made with trippy effects loaded everywhere.
god this game is the best!!! This game is the sole reason why I didn't pass I.T. in year 12. I spent the entire year playing this every lesson on an N64 emulator (with the volume up ofc)....... it was soo worth it.
Funnily enough fast forward 4 years to today and I'm going to University this year, and beleive it or not I'm doing an I.T. degree...... and thanks to Robotron I know nothing about I.T....and to make things worse I just got back into the game..

Lastly, the "precious years of a life" are the years where a person learns. If someone doesn't study to the best of their potential, the job they'll get when they're older could be potentially worse.

If it's one thing the N64 had a shortcoming with, it was texture mapping and it seems they understood this since the only real texture is on the ground. The GPU only allowed a fixed image size for textures, forcing developers to usually stretch the image over polygons, making them look distorted and blurry.
The flat Gouraud shading works to this game's advantage making the visuals look cleaner and more polished compared to other games of the time. Thumbs up big time for this revamp of a classic
I bought this game and a N64 consle a few days ago, just to play this, goldeneye, starfox 64, and sm64 and i have to say it was defadently worth it (I got the consle, and a controller for only $20!)
4:26 = pro. & yes this game is worth the entire console...but if you must get other games I highly reccommend Perfect Dark, Golden Eye, & snowboard kids, & super smash bros! ^^

I love arcade-style games. I've never played this one, and it seems like one I would really enjoy. I just might have to pick it up for my Nintendo 64.
I think it's just because the games couldn't be as big as the PS1's (700MB CDs vs god knows how many big cartridges), the graphics weren't always as good, some of the sound wasn't as good, and the controller could be a pain but I couldn't care less. If the game is good, I'm happy. I have a PS1 AND a 64 and have seen 2 different versions of games. You have to admit that Nintendo did good with their own games lol.
Yeah, the thing is though, I have little patience for console wars, with some exceptions. This however, is no exception, they are equal, and so are the ps3 360 and wii.
@DeltaPhi79 well some of the ROMs for n64 emulators kick out >500M. I found most PS1 games had a smaller sized rom , not by much however) N64 had most of my faviourite childhood games on it , they will never be forgotten , only game wasnt on n64 was road rash but even then they released a 64 version , might look it out on ebay :)

I didn't know Mark had a beef with the N64. The only criticism he seems to make is the controller.
I actually think the N64 had a pretty solid controller, aside from it's rather awkward size and shape. The button layout is fantastic, and more accessible than any of the playstation controllers IMO.
The robotron brand might not have popped up since the N64 version, but the genre (two stick shooters) is certainly about. I think I've seen two for the PS3 alone (one of them called Zombie Apocalypse, iirc). My own memories are from Llamatron for the Atari ST, and playing with my brother, one player shooting and the other running.
You want the real robotron sticks well I cant give you the arcade but you could buy a stealladapter for your PC so you can use Atari controllers and a N64 emulator

I didn't know Mark had a beef with the N64. The only criticism he seems to make is the controller.
I actually think the N64 had a pretty solid controller, aside from it's rather awkward size and shape. The button layout is fantastic, and more accessible than any of the playstation controllers IMO.

The robotron brand might not have popped up since the N64 version, but the genre (two stick shooters) is certainly about. I think I've seen two for the PS3 alone (one of them called Zombie Apocalypse, iirc). My own memories are from Llamatron for the Atari ST, and playing with my brother, one player shooting and the other running.

You want the real robotron sticks well I cant give you the arcade but you could buy a stealladapter for your PC so you can use Atari controllers and a N64 emulator

Robotron 64 was the fucking shit. The game was quite addicting although I don't think I got passed level20. This game was actually extremely hard.

My dad and I were at a video game shop and he saw this game (my dad loves robotron) and so i saw your review and I agree, this is a good reason to buy an N64.

I've only just picked up an N64 and have been looking for the best titles to pick up. Thanks to your review I decided to pick up Robotron 64 and I found it for £3! Looking foward to some robot blasting action!
