Limit of"characters allowed" ! have led to me making "3" posts .sorry !
Basically the mk2 granada(along with the 70's mk1 only) , top of range being a must .."Exec" or nothing is now a desirable & usable "Retro Car" & with the potential of classic status .Certainly something the mk3 or the frog scorpio never will.
For that we must thank all the "oiks", who over the past 20 years have trashed & banger raced these to near oblivion .May'be their fun = our financial gain LOL
When I get chance try to take a video/pics of my mk2 exec & post, Weather has not made it a priority sorry & have been working on my Scimitar GTC all winter !
Granada is a September reg 1984 "B" reg in nimbus grey ,2 owners from new not immaculate, but condition 1+.
Most of these Granada's have ended up "banger race" & associated trashed, that they are now considering their production very rare on the roads,I get now coments on the granada daily more than my rarer 73 Dolly Sprint I use to own !
The X "extra Pack" -Ghia Plus. With all Ford production & it is as true today as ever, their cars are & get better as the production of any particular model goes on .Any Model is always at it's best nearer to the end of production.
A prime example is with the mk2 Granada,in 1983/84 knowing they were about to produce the new Mk3.they certainly for the British Market threw everything at it ,& the Executive was born with leather an + all possible extras but not badged such. Now rare as hens teeth
I have a 1978 S reg 2.8 GL saloon auto in Gold with those nice steel sports wheels sitting in my barn. I have not driven it on the road in 12 years. I do drive it around the yard now and again, to keep engine going, i,am going to restore her one day.
Well I still have one , 1984 2.8i Ghia X Exec , all the trimings & leather .
27 years old now , but only done 50k miles .. gets lots of interest where ever I go ..As they are getting really rare--as most bashed up years ago in "Banger" racing .
Bought this one 3 years ago -- my 6th Granada ...they take some beating ..Fab cars
@ussvoyger: What does the "X" mean in Granada? I used to have a Swedish import Granada 2.8i L, year 1980. They also had 2.8i Ghia S, but I've seen those Ghia X models on the Internet too... but never on the road.
I wonder how it would have done, had they offered it in the US instead of the car of the same name, which was a different species entirely...
Interestingly this car was made under licence in Korea by Hyundai, who sold it from 1978 to 1986, when it was replaced by Hyundai's (at the time Mitsubishi based) Grandeur...
thi was my dads 'dream car' he finally got a 2.8GL in silver with brown interior and drove about like he was king of the town. He was so proud. I remember when I was 17 he gave me the keys and said 'take it round the block - I trust you' and for a complete novice it felt so fast! I was shaking.
Hilarious really. Just an old ford. Simple plain motoring - 1980 style.
These cars were well ahead of their time, some of the features these cars had as standard were extras on equivalent Mercedes,BMWs,Jaguars etc. and even then some of the big luxury car brands didn't even offer some of these features at all on their options list from factory!
Delighted to see all the old TV adverts for all the Ford Cars of this era when they were brand new. I particularly love the Ford Granada MK2. I had one for years and it was the nicest and best car I ever had. Does anyone know the name of the voice behind the commentary for this particular ad.
Defendants sold restoration parts for Ford automobiles using Ford's trademark FoMoCo in the domain name "fomoco.com" and the business name "FoMoCo Obsolete." Plaintiff sued for cybersquatting, trademark dilution, trademark infringement, false designation of origin, and false advertising. Neither defendant made an appearance or answered the complaint.
@daryl4classic Yes they are very practical and, if you find one in good condition, very reliable! Change the engine-oil and filter every year and you will have a healthy Granada ready for anything. They are comfortable as a new car and have space better than a brand new Bmw 5-series. Six cylinder engines and power steering are preferable=)
thanks, i want one of these (Prefer them to the other large saloons of the time). Is rust a major issue onthese like they are on other old fords, or are these better?
They are practical cars to use, any problems now probably due to age/mileage. most 2.8s were 3 speed autos which will be either a good or bad thing depending on your preferance, but the 2.8 V6 only does between 18-24 mpg, also bear in mind they were not designed to use unleaded petrol
God I love that shape.. No modern car of any type (and certainly not Fords !) is anywhere near as neat, elegant, tasteful, restrained, crisp etc etc etc... Bravo for 1970s/early 80s Fords..!!
My dad had one of these, it was a metallic blue (with blue & red coachlines) 2.3LX with the 5-speed manual gearbox on a "B" registration. We went everywhere in that car...from Blackpool to John O' Groats and it never let us down once. Thanks for sharing this video!
What an elegant well-proportioned shape - I had a '79 2.8 Ghia auto and '81 2.8 Injection auto back in the mid eighties - both great cars; the Injection had wonderful Recaro seats and pearlescent white TRX alloys/tyres... The injection engine sounded surprisingly different to the carb version.
You've hit the nail on the head. Cars today are pumped up & vulgar. Cars of the 70s are much more elegant & restrained in their design. I'm dabbling with the idea of buying a Mk2 Granada.
In Argentina they certainly were! In 1991, one could buy a Ford Falcon there which was the 1960 design with facelifts that attempted to give the car the look of a Mk5 Cortina!
It only looks similar, in fact everything about the Grenada is different to the Falcon at the time. Engine, transmission, even the size of the car is different.
that never stopped anyone thinking the opel omega was a re badge commodore
commodore was larger wider running gear all that shit you can make a platform and adjust it to anything you want it to be ute long wheel base short wheel base
Ah no - the Aussie Ford XD Falcon, while styled to have a similar look to the Euro Granada, was a completely different animal altogether, with different panels, underbody and running gear...
@mrspivvy Sure it wasnt the XD Falcon built in Australia? They look similar but ours had a lower side window line and leaf springs at the back. Not that sophisticated if im honest!
@mrspivvy The engine that you describe never appeared in the Granada - however - believe it or not - it was a factory option for Australian assembled Cortinas from the Mk3 onward...
Was in the UK for 2.5 weeks over Christmas and New Year's... didn't see a SINGLE Granada :'(
