The concept of the naked chicks floating across the screen was complete genius. These days, imbeciles like Fats Limpo would say it was pornographic and the studio would be forced to change it. Then Fats would say he's against gays, but also against beautiful naked women. People like Fats have ruined this country.
@crucisnh uve completely missed my point. i like the gadgets as long as there is not too many of them and they r not over the top ridiculously retarded like them laser guns. moneypenny, Q i like them too. the camp jokes r not too bad but the other bonds did it with their own unique style to the character. everything about moores bond era was absolutely retarded. the jokes, the gadgets, the villains (except jaws) the plots except this one. besides, i like connery and brosnan over craigs new era
@TheResidentevil101 And it isn't Moore's fault for any of that. I found that Moore had some of the best villains; including Scaramanga, Jaws, Mr. Big, Hugo Drax, Zorin.. The list is quite long so I shall stop. The jokes and plots come down to the script writers, but I don't think a serious bond would've worked in the 70's, it wouldn't have been appealing to the audiences. The gadgets were a little annoying at times, but Bond isn't Bond without a gadget or two or three or even four. (;
The reason i love the Bond series is because it's so diverse. I love the Moore movies for what they are and i also love the Craig movies for what they are.
@1tryingtoimprove just because moore was ur childhood bond doesnt make him the best bond. hes the worst. his camp rubbishness ruined bond until the living daylights came out. god knows y some bond fans like moore. all his films had poor plots especially his later ones. moonraker ripped off star wars big time. laser guns in space in a bond film? come on! the novel of moonraker didnt hav tht shit. i bet fleming wud turn in his grave if he saw moore as bond. all the other bonds r way better.
@TheResidentevil101 Not everyone likes the hard edge of the current Bond movies. Some people actually like the slightly campy style of the Moore Bond and the Brosnan Bond. While I think that Casino Royale was excellent, I miss some of the mild campiness, the gadgets, Miss Moneypenny, Q and so on. Going away from that formula made Bond seem rather of a more generic action film and less of a Bond film.
@pnt1204 If you're a fan of Roger Moore, check out "The Saint," made in England from 1962-1969. His portrayal of Simon Templar is a precursor to his role as James Bond, and you could almost intertwine the two...
when music was music, and to sing a bond song was an honour and a privilege, almost 25 years on this is is still sublime and entrancing. Sheena is my favourite, this song second and Rita third, bring back the great epic songs, I say. If I had to pick a modern day singer for the next Bond song, I would pick Rumer
I love that song! Nice opening...very artistic, and nudity always gets a thumbs up from me. ^_^ I'm not even that much of a Bond fan, but this totally makes me wanna see that movie.
For Your Eyes Only, Moonraker and The Spy Who Loved Me are by far my favorite James Bond movies. They have everything. The girls, the beautiful music, great action and adventure, and a very well thought out plot. I miss the old Bond years, Roger Moor, to be more precise.
@MiwiChiquitoBui Excellent post, Those are my 3 favorite Bond Films as well and no one was a better Bond than Roger Moore was (Although I'd say that Sean Connery was as good), and the plots were the most well written of an Bond movies (especially the latest ones).
For me it wasn't just that everything about them was so good, but also I was young with thoughts of a great future ahead and it seemed the whole world was coming into a bright wonderful new golden age.
The Best Bond opening, without question, and a pretty damn good Bond Movie Ta-but. Bucksugar's Rating System (TM) gives both opening and movie very high marks.
Were going for the lowest common denominator here with the abundance of nekkid chicks performing gymnastics and sporting guns, however, if done properly you have pure Bond formulaic perfection. And it is!! Throw in Barbara Bach as the bond girl and you have 1 1/2 hours of heaven.
I recently watched "The Spy Who Loved Me" for the first time in years and when the main title came on I started to cry. I'm not sure if it was because of the music, the lyrics, Carly's voice or a combination of all three but I do know that it was a very touching, emotional experience. Then again, maybe it was the anticipation of seeing Barbara Bach in action - since she is so stunningly beautiful in this movie. My only wish is that she would have smiled more.
@pnt1204 Babara Bach has always been my favorite Bond girl, and I think this is definitely Moore's best Bond film--in fact, I would say it's my favorite of the entire series. Now I know most critics wouldn't consider Moore the best Bond, but he's my favorite because that's who I grew up with, and I'm a very nostalgic person. I think '77-'83 were the peak Roger Moore years, with FYEO being my 2nd favorite. Anyway, I agree that Carly's title song is amazing, setting up the movie perfectly.
I just viewed this once again, turning the sound up that one half-notch like I did in the theater in 1977. These title graphics by Maurice Binder are the best in the entire Bond series, followed by "Goldfinger" in 1964. A stunning blast from the past, and once again, many more thanks for sharing this with us...
In 1977, I was a projectionist for my sister's theater in Astoria, OR, and we ran "The Spy Who Loved Me" for two weeks. I saw it well over 25 times, to the point that I could quote film lines, but my favorite segment was always Carly Simon's opening credits song. There's nothing like listening to a film with full-blown movie theater speakers, and the acoustics are incredible. The visuals are just as I remember them, and I thank you so much for the posting...This is a mainstay on my Playlist...
I think Carly got a bit more credit than she deserves for this - the tune and arrangement being sorted out by Marvin Hamlisch. Anyway, it had the same minor- mindblowing effect on me as a kid going to see this one Saturday afternoon at the local fleapit, which happened to be the Rayners Lane Odeon (famous for its unique Art Deco "elephant-trunk" facade) in NW London. Saw Star Wars there too...

Fantastic sound quality. Without a doubt the best Bond song and film ever. Long live Roger Moore. (Also this original version of the song, is better than the re-recorded version).
I know all the lyrics to every bond theme song exept never say never again, die another day, casino royale, quantum of solace, on her majestys secret service, and moonraker.
I have played over ten songs now. I tried to mute the video and overlap it with other songs. And those other songs always sound Bond-like. I love it‼ xD .
I have played The Handshake by MGMT, Fluorescent Adolescent by Arctic Monkeys, Paranoid by Black Sabbath, Purple Rain by Prince and a lot others. xDD
Gotta ♥ the Lotus motor in this flick, best wheels to come out of Norwich, Norfolk. As I recall even the rego was a Norfolk one.
