  • don't know why ppl compare her version vs Barbara Streisand... Julie London owns this song by far, but Boyle does a good job with this one

  • Simply put, the absolute best rendition of this song. I've listened to it several times for over a year now and she just continues to go deep down into your soul and have her way with you. Close your eyes and just drift away with her beautiful mystery...what a gift.

  • Although I can't say I've heard a lot of versions of this song, I think Susan sang this the best it can be sung. There's a depth of emotion to it that other singers just can't match.

  • Sultry, sensual, sexy.

  • Let's see. Susan did her favorites. Then a Chrismas album. Then another favorites.

I think it's time for a blues album.

I know on her fansite that there are more request's than the poor (poor?) lady can sing.

But I would love to hear her do 'Blues In The Night'. Along with this ..

  • I just compared Susan's version against Barbra's and I must say that Susan is by far better!

  • I cried a river over you...

  • It does have a touch of The John Barry's about it.

  • I Love this! WOW!

  • Wow wow wow

  • All these people referring to Streisand's performance of this song, using it as the standard to compare others against, don't know what jazz singing is. Streisand is a good pop singer as far as she goes; but on a song like this, she couldn't hold Julie London's tissues.

  • good version that I like better than Barbra. Lulu and Jeff Beck have a great jazz version that is also very good.

  • too sweet and jazzy for my liking..

    but it is nice..

  • Hold the goddamn phone! Barbara Streisand? She's the singer who is paid homage for this song? And Ella Fitzgerald? Julie London? Jesus christ, even Michael Buble sang a better rendition than Streisand.

  • Average voice and no interpretation of the song.

Study of Streisand's version should be a prerequisite for anyone attempting this song.

  • @DavidJPitt Take the wax out your ears, you talking garbage, she sings like an angel

  • @DavidJPitt Streisand is a 'has been'!!! The 'crown' belongs to another!!! Dion can kiss my dog's ASS!!!! Boyle is the standard........!!!!

  • she has a great voice, but leave this song to streisand please.

  • New song by Susan Boyle. Someone To Watch Over Me. watch?v=MT4srrufEB0

  • Nice...but listen to any barbara streisand version PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LOL

  • who would ever believe this voice would come from her.....it breaks all stereotypes and moves the ball far far down the field when it comes to respecting talent coming from out of nowhere and from anyone!!

  • Her voice just gives me goozebumps >>>> GREAT

  • bravo!!!...

  • a great great great voice.......it's like being being on the sweetest drug of all, but it's better, her voice floats and floats and keeps floating........

  • She lives all alone with a CAT named Sprinkles. I think she knows about pain!

  • come on

    Krall is way better

    it's not about just singing

  • Before you give Susan too much credit listen to the Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Krall versions of this song.

Susan can sing but she just ain't got "Blues".

As far as I am concerned Susan nearly ruined this song.

  • @hammerogod I really don't mean to be unkind but didn't Susan Boyle tell the whole world that she had never been kissed. So....... we have to assume she has never had an erm.... (ahem) wet relationship and the gut wrenching loss that anyone who has ever been through it knows it is THE worst feeling in the world by some mark.... To be fair though I do think she's give it a fair crack and at least got what it was SUPPOSED to be... Bless her

  • @abuBakr97

Please don't misunderstand my thoughts about Susan...I never said that she couldn't sing...I respect her voice and her guts (courage, fortitude)

She can sing 1000 times better than I can so I can't legitimately criticize her.

I would probably never have the balls to do what she has done so I can't throw stones.

My only comment was the she lacks "Blues" but I could be wrong.

Perhaps a few hours sitting on Corey Harris' face would cure that.

"I feel so Bluuuuuu Ahhhhh Wooooo""

  • @hammerogod "Blue" meaning American Deep South Black cluture background and the attributes come with it

or I guess more "Black" singers' voicing technique and expression...... I think I got your point....That's very different yes....I went to New Orleans and Blues House in Dallas and DC area and it somehow reminds me of black church singing

  • @hammerogod I listened and I think Susan sings the hell out of this song, I don't get jazzers man and not sure you are one but what is she not mellow or how I usually see it, boring enough?

  • @Monsterdrumma

I am not going to start any drama but I have some thoughts on how this song should be sung.

#1- You can't sing the "Blues" unless you understand how to express the "Pain".

#2- The "Feeling" of the song is not written on the sheet music, it comes from deep inside the singer.

#3- Anyone can sing a song note for note but only a few people can bring out the "Emotion".

#4- Susan did a good job but the Soul Deep Feeling is not there.

Listen to Nina Simone or Ella and u will get it.

  • @hammerogod I am not trying to start nothing here and don't think you are either, I understand what you are saying but sometimes people are inspired by music as she is with this song, I have had heard comments about Stevie Ray Vaughan not really knowing or living the blues (different style of blues obviously) but to me he moved me more then any musician I have ever heard. So I get what you are saying as I am a professional musician myself but I guess it comes down to personal taste as always.

  • @Monsterdrumma

I was grabbed by your statement about SRV.

He didn't live the Blues did he?

He learned to play the nuts out of a guitar and FAKE the Blues.

Perhaps all that Susan is lacking is the ability to fake it.

You and I both know that Ella Fitzgerald was singing the Blues long after she had nothing to be Blue about.

The same can be said for B.B.King, Eric Clapton and a lot of others.

  • @hammerogod i think she put a lot of emotion into this, there are more than just notes in this song

  • @Monsterdrumma

  • Just an amazing voice.

  • what amazes me is how she sheds her British accent when she sings////////

  • In my opinion THE BEST EVER version of the song !!! So deep and emotional, and at the same time highly professional... So happy about Susan !!!

  • beautiful voice, but still love the sentimental version of Barbara

  • this girl is way underrated..... she deserves so much more than american idol

  • If you'd like to hear who truly owns this song, listen to Julie London's version. That's been a given in the music world for many years. Having said this, why not appreciate each singer for what they offer without having to choosing one over the others. Each has something special to offer.

  • @dm5401 I agree, Julie London does own that song, but I do love Susan's voice and appreciate what she brings to the songs she chooses, as you say, each has something special to offer :)

  • 200th like

  • This lady has an amazing voice. God gave her a very special talent. She does not pretend to by someone she's not, she's just herself and loves singing, and I love listening to her. All those celebs that are flashing fancy clothes, staving themselves, and getting into trouble, they all let the fame go to their heads and they end up in trouble. This lady is real....just a person who enjoys singing....and does it very well.

  • @stonegrooved i am completely with you, all ladies you stated .. correct. they all forget that the main thing is to INTERPRET a song and not the show. and sometimes ... sometimes therea a miracles liek susan. and she dies it great, this is not an easy to sing song, i know that as i am a singer too and i also dislike this ladies extremely...... thatnks for your comment and that you are right is the applause of 81 points ... until now....

  • @stonegrooved That's what being a singer is all about. Your VOICE. Not your looks. :)

  • I love how she sings every song that I hear from her! I could die hearing her!

  • I frankly am more impressed with the way she sings this song than how she sings I Dreamed A Dream. She doesn't just belt it out. She sings with soul in this one. Very well done.

  • I love this song and she sings it so well

  • What a waste of such a hidden talent all these years. I hope the future gives us the delight of her beautiful voice for years to come.

  • Love this lady, she has a beautiful, powerful voice, everything she sings is absolutely fantastic,

  • Her voice is bewitching, absolutely pure and beautiful.

  • she made the song popular!

  • It's a shame that this song has been lying in some drawer for ten years.

  • @LetsGetSourcey hey dont talk about your mama like that.

  • @LetsGetSourcey probably has more talent then you and your hole family put together :)

  • Again...just voice...nothing else...but a person having it must be exceptional too...

  • NAMASTE MUSICAL BLESSINGS :) OM <3

  • No one does it better!!! Love Susan..Thanks!

  • I'll tell you what I appreciate about Susan Boyle, she sounds incredible, simply fabulous darling. I listen to her as often as I can.

  • Amazing!

  • i feel like I'm listening to the into to an old james bond movie... lol... thats a good thing

  • WOW, Susan, smoky R&B sung beautiful. Your voice is a treasure, so grateful for singers like you. Instead of the pop crap out there.

  • And if any of you ever thought romance in music is dead, guess again

  • love her

  • Reminds of Ella Fitzgerald, absolutely a first class voice.

  • Simple beginnings, humble living. That's what has made her a sensation. Honest talent, no fluff!

  • Unless many singers she is LIVING this song when doing it. I believe she is teaching many singers these days a lesson about what singing is all about. The singing, not the show.

  • shes good whatchmy vid old grumpy paper men

  • She has a perfect voice to do a torch song like this. I like it even better than

"I Dreamed A Dream". This is just awesome.

  • she isnt 37 i fort she was like 47 =// how old is she xDD

  • @maccy2468 Susan is now 49 years old. Susan recorded this song back in 1998 for a community charity CD. She was around 37 years old at the time.

  • wow this woman has a wonderful voice and people out there made fun of her!? wtf? you go girl!!

  • this is def not her....she def sold her soul to the devil and SPIRITS SING THROUGH HER

  • is this really susan boyle? amazing!

  • She's so smooth - what a singer!

  • @stonegrooved Couldn't agree more, stonegrooved. The vocal contortions of the power divas just strangle the life out of the songs. SuBo doesn't need to do any of that crap. She just let's her voice 'speak' for itself - and it DOES. And it's not often I prefer a remake to the original, but her interpretation of the Stones Wild Horses is sublime. She could carve a niche for herself with an album of highly individualistic remakes of classic rock songs of that type.

  • must hear it from Sam Cook!!

  • not bad.. still prefer michael buble's version :)

  • she has a very amazing voice. but....what is that thing ? is it her? :(

  • @Farsider3955

By that if u mean DISGRACE... Yeah!! ;)

  • @klmorgan123 This is most definently Susan. The original artist was Ella Fitzgerald and this doesn't sound like her. If you listen to Susan and then this it is totally her. :)

  • Susan Boyle is 47 not 37..... LOL but either way her voice is gorgeuos

  • Released in 1999. 2009 = 47; 1999 = 37.

    LOL

  • i prefer Michael Buble's version. Susan Boyle is amazing just the same but i love Michaela more...

  • Julie London sang this a looooooong time ago. Beautiful song.

  • beautifull vocie and music, enough to thrill me. michel buble's oecould never beat Susen Boyles version.

  • Beautiful voice and music, enough to thrill me.

  • MrPaulLegge, this is an old Ella Fitzgerald song written before Justin Timberlake was born.

  • Did you know that there is a man called Justin Timberlake and he sings a song with a title that is EXACTLY the same as this song. Is that legal?

  • oppps ??! since when the song names are copyright protected ???

  • @MrPaulLegge Had you actually listened to the songs, you would see that they are vastly different. The only similarity is the title.

  • wooooooooow

  • I think she is amazing! You go girl!

  • amazinggg...!

  • wow...this song makes me so calm and chill.

  • Very good indeed

  • @hunterbob21

    hahahaha hahaha well said :D

  • perhaps, you suffer from an inferiority complex

  • Well, that's you opinion, we live in a free world. But u know what? nobody really cares what u think.

  • so beautiful. So beautiful. I love it better than Barbara Streissand's, Dinah Washington's and even Julie London's versions.

  • !!!!!!!!!!!*speechless*
