This isn't hippy music. It's a really nice pop/rock song with lyrics about a guy looking back on his childhood and the innocence and simplicity of those days, wondering why things change (for the worse).

Richard Wright wrote this very deep song about childhood and how those are the happiest times in your life. This song has nothing to do with hippes or twentysomethings or teens or the 60s. This is about your lost childhood and how pwefect things were when you had all day just to play, and none of those grown-up things like bills, sexual urges, loneliness, despair, etc.
This has always been a song about lost youth to me. Your childhood ends, and no matter how bad you want to go back you can't. All you can do is remember those days. This has always been a beautiful, yet sad song to me. Poingant? Thatt's probably the word I'm looking for.
@mjtisc1 There is a nuance of difference between hippy music like The Grateful Dead,Jefferson Airplane etc and Psychedelia.Psychedelia,I'd say,has some elements of punk in it's ingredients.
ok @trichoone i accept you like woodstock and 60s and that wonderful era, but even that you can addapt this song to the remember of better old times its not the pruporse of the song. The song has a much more deep ( and i dont want to use the word deep) meaning. The video is ok but can make people miss the real meaning. Sadly 60s is now more a cliché and something fashion to follow or to be part of than a real fealing for most of the people.
Use this video for a Jeffersons Airplane's song! :)
Well... I'm not an old hippie, and I could never remember those days since I'm only 20 :P
But to me, the spirit of those old days will live on forever and ever, unless all life is exterminated and nature will have to restart the evolution from the top :P
@WealAndWoeOfficial lol, Do you really believe that Pink Floyd made hippie music? Why? Because it's from the same era? Or because there were also some hippies who listened to the Floyd? Don't you know that Pink Floyd has always tried to be as insular as possible? They definitely didn't identify with the hippie subculture; not as a band nor as individuals. Richard Wright himself has actually said that he was a bit of a "Jazz snob" in those days.
@Elwood1992 well they were referred as british hippies but that was just their association with the drug and love culture in england, and the fact they made psychedelic music. I guess really they were not hippies in the way that they loved peace and tried to spread it, but it was the fact of the type of culture of the youth you could consider them hippies. Pink floyd though have definitely always tried to make them selves unique compared to others.
i was wondering i rekon people will be listening to floyd in 200 years time , i think every track by floyd is an amazing piece of music, we are all so lucky to have such brilliant music to love and enjoy .....
This song is about childhood, and it blows me away so strong, that i cant describe, its like a flashback of my childhood, stronger than mushroom trips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was born in 1980... These images are of the revelries of hedonistic rich kids. My generation has this problem, too, absent the delsusions of changing the world en masse. For my generation pink floyd is about being fucked up and zoning out and enjoying the silence of the world in yourself, even though you're at a keg party surrounded by others. Future generations will only hear Floyd music via headphones or on their version of youtube, this is why their music will stand the test of time
@90alexcatalan are up there with u2? how about leagues beyond, theres no comparison in complexity or quality of music, granted i completely enjoy u2, but come on now.
a world ,a way to be,the youth, the music, the way to dress, everything here reminds me that i belong to the last century, even if i had to live till to be really old,and to ask to myself from how many years am i living in a future i imagined really better, unfortunately nothing went as me,and only God knows ,really many many milliond of youngs thought..even to moving vid, really a great trip into the past, great, *****!!
Back in the day there were no electronic screen displays like in this video. Folks would drop colored oil into water under an overhead projector or use a disco ball of mirrors with a colored spotlight. We forget how much things have changed. No one even imagined Youtube.

@dozer602 you don't know anything about him, so don't make comments. Pink Floyd is definitely one of the greatest things in my life as well, but I have an active social life.
@dozer602 Are we not allowed to say anything on here anymore, I am only young, I have a good social life but I am just a mad Pink Floyd fan, how ignorant can you get by saying I am a loser over a fucking comment on youtube. And therefore every one that gave my comment a thumbs up is a loser because it related to them. Music is very important, just because you may take it as a bit of fun doesn't mean we have to, watch Almost Famous it will show what I mean.
Pink Floyd changed my life mostly every day id tried to heard their albums on my roof watching the stars theres no name for that feeling =) amazing , Pink Floyd the best of the best =)

I understand what you mean by "for all us old hippies." It's a great tribute to the memories of a golden age. I can't say that I'm one to share those memories... when I'm only 22 years old swede and all *sigh* but I'd like to say there are more than only "old hippies" that appreciates this video and song!
thankyou for your comment they were great times and i'm sorry if i gave the impression it was only for us " old hippies " great music is for everyone and any age thankyou again and peace and love returned .

Thank you for uploading this great song with these great images from Woodstock and beyond!
I understand what you mean by "for all us old hippies." It's a great tribute to the memories of a golden age. I can't say that I'm one to share those memories... when I'm only 22 years old swede and all *sigh* but I'd like to say there are more than only "old hippies" that appreciates this video and song!
Peace & Love from Sweden :)

I love how gradually the psychedelic colors start to fade in along about 3:35.
I would have liked to see more of that happening throughout the video. Even so, 5 stars!
