  • almost lost my finger in workplace accident. cost me 6k to keep it, albeit with no feeling or movement in the last section.

Watch what you are doing folks

  • "he get sucked in this maschine"...so a big man and no power to tear his jeans?

  • I have to declare bullshit, if the machine is 6 feet off the ground, there Is a safe way to get in and out of it. They don't just drop a cockpit for a piece of machinery 6 feet in the air with no ladder or stair case that leads up to it, you should have looked a little better. I hope that workman's comp didn't give you a red cent, doing something this stupid is the same as committing workman's comp fraud.

  • my friend got his hand slowly crushed by the machine you use to shape metal plates with (no idea what it's called.i'm norwegian) while we were doing some tasks at school. he had to amputate. later he almost killed himself when he stuck some clothing in the metal lathe, and there have been many times where i'd just have to stop him (or watch him hurt himself)

his accidents were caused by stupidity and not watching what he was doing. you can't expect deadly machinery to accept your negligence

  • one big thing on construction jobs and other dangerous places, the older people do not train the younger people enough. you have to keep an eye on them all of the time and really train and train.

  • wait was his leg caught round the chain or did lt clip onto his pants? coz l would try to take my pants of.

    poor guy anyway

  • if it was a famliy member i would of made sure that company would suffer, i would of sued them of everything they got. and they say that wont help. well its not about helping cause u can do anything about that, but u can get justice.

  • So sorry that happened. Glad and thankful you survived. God Bless ya!

  • Angels didnt do shit.

If there was an angel present I think it is kind of an asshole, for not jamming it's magical little fingers in the chain and saving his leg.

  • wat a thing WOW...

  • Aint there supposed to be emergency stop buttons at the "entrance" of such machines? Imagine what a red button with a yellow stickerband around could prevent...

  • how can you manage to get ur pants stuck on a chain? not hating or anything i just dont see it very likely

  • @sledz4life

Wow, what an ignorant comment. it doesn't matter if you don't see it happening, it did, and its not the first time. I wish you could trade places with him, as you seem much more deserving of the injury.

  • @sledz4life ever ridden a bike?

  • @sledz4life IAnything can happen man.

  • this video is a very effective way to teach young works to pay attention to safety training on the jobsite

  • i watched this in school...haha

  • @meat656shop why are you laughing sick bastard

  • Oh man this is so disturbing. I wonder what part of BC this story took place in.

  • ye, i guess youd like to live in disney world land where you can be as carefree and wreckless as you want with no responsibilities for your own safety...well thats typical american way of thinking

  • Thats what you get for jumping down onto a moving conveyor system. Dont try to blame it on a lack of safety training whe obviously it was a lack of common sense that caused the accident in the first place! And its got nothing to do with an american way of thinking because dumbasses are everywhere in the world...as your comments have proven.

  • 0mfg D0od u miss a legg :\

  • spooky

  • AND THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD CARRY A KNIFE

  • fuck yeah

  • wow hes not strong enough to rip some denim?

  • if it was carhartt coveralls that shit is tough

  • denim is pretty strong, and it depends what kind. And theres no way he could be stronger than the machine.

  • a ladder would have greatly helped him

  • i'm pretty sure if he were to have had a grip on something (the poles on either side of him) the chain would have just ripped his pants. you have to be quick witted when you work in a danger area. maybe jumping down onto a chain sharp enough to snag your clothing wasn't the brightest moment of his life...

  • Safety should always be first. If you see someone performing an unsafe act, teach them. Don't let the opportunity pass. If you are not fortunate enough to have an employer that cares, take those new folks under your wing and help them out. There are so many opportunities for improvement when it comes to safety. Put your suggestions in writing folks. Employers don't want to pay claims and many times appreciate the heads up..

  • i don't really get what you wrote but i just wanna say that getting payed is not as important as your life so yea, i guess that relates to what you said

  • most likely the companies fault, the chain should be off if you are touching it

  • So he got his pants caught on the machinery?, from what I saw in the video would've had time to pull his pants off....and prevented the whole thing.

  • He had boots on dumbass

  • He most likely had work boots on, so he probably would've needed to take those off before his pants could fully come off, which meant untying the boots and then slipping them off, in addition to the pants. That would take a while, but I think he was panicking so much he didn't think about that.

  • it always takes one cheapskate to not install a safety cover or emergency brake or not replace a broken part for some of this stuff to happen...

  • Hasnt tht kidd ever heard of OSHA??... Im sure they were all over that accident.. and somebody probly payed big-time, besides the kid who lost his leg

  • i watched this movi he was in it and it showed him gettingv pulled him there was two more he wasnt the worst one it was the girl who got her fingers in a chain it ripped her fingers off

  • wow, this fall could have been avoided

  • the machine should have had a ladder

  • well at least it was a leg not his life

  • I remember watching this in school.

  • very scary stuff,

  • You are HOT! I would definitely date you regardless.

  • wahh... i hate mah dad goin work.. saw... nd. mah dad almost get lose his one finger.. now recover... im so happy mah dad finger get backk!! <3;;

  • Funny voice when he said "I was on crutches at the time, what am I agoing to do?

  • hey man i just saw your vid i am so sorry for what happen hope you are doing good now i was in an excavator in northern bc and working on a hill and the right track started sliding and i could not do anything but hold on i tumbbeled end over end 12 times and i broke my back. well good luck on the rest of your life and take it easy man

  • Indeed. I often seen several of these videos where they blame the employer for NOT informing them. But at the same time I have seen none of these videos where the individual have asked their employer what they should do in a situation of uncertainty. If in any doubt, TURN THE DAMN MACHINE OFF! then get someone who knows. Many many many accidents have been caused by either poor judgement or carelessness. I don't want to sound mean or uncaring, but *THINK*. many here said it best, USE COMMON SENSE

  • WTF! are you an idiot in training or is this natural to you?

  • u r T F idiot! have some respect for someone who works hard for most likely crap wages! what do u do? sit on your fat A all day waiting to critisize someone for trying to make a living!

  • can't expect folks to understand machines they have never been properly trained on, particularly younger kids. Thats the point of the videos, everyone has a right to safe training. then they would know to stop the machine first.

  • u r mean and uncaring, do u work in a factory? emergency stop buttons r only placed in certain areas of a machine, if u get stuck, can u reach the stop button! i work in a plastic moulding factory, i started as a packer but now run 7 machines with no training! luckily i still have all my limbs, workers like me need to start saying NO to greedy employers that take advantage of unskilled employees to do work that requires more skill and more pay!

  • running a mill machine isnt exactly a common sense task.

u need specific instruction from someone whos done it before.

could u jump in a 747 and safely fly it on common sense?

and how fair would it be if u crashed and the 20 year vet sitting beside u said well OBVIOUSLY its dangerous to land at that weight!!

    well no, thats not fair.

even if a danger seems obvious its worth the few hours it takes to properly explain how to avoid that danger. those hours could have saved this kids leg.

  • That's a bad feeling when you know you are hurt but you don't want to look down and see how bad it looks. I've been there.

  • me too!! :(

  • In the UK young people are Risk Assessed in a different way to adults.

You have to show that you've taken into account their lack of life experience and the fact that they are more likely to take chances or show off than an older person.

Certain jobs and environments are out of bounds to younger workers until they've matured a bit.

This isn't because they're stupid, its just because they don't percieve danger in the same way, due to lack of experience.

  • why does she peeling carrots while the interview?

  • why do they blame the company when its clearly the workers fault

  • how is it the workers fault if there is no safe way to get down from the machine

  • It is the companies fault, they should of had a safer way to get up and down, he did it the way they showed him!

  • It is the companies fault, they should of had a safer way to get up and down, he did it the way he was showed.

  • It's terrible that a young person has to suffer an injury like this but, every one of these lost youth videos show injuries that could have been avoided had the victims used some common sense. "My employer never told me not to walk around on a peice of moving machinery that's equipped with razor sharp blades." That's because you can't teach common sense. If he has to explain that to you, chances are he'll have to pencil in an entire week explaining things you should already know.

  • that is horrifying

  • i feel so sorry 4 him

  • that angel from heaven was just a wee bit too late

  • AM i the only one who says this is fake?

  • yup

  • They are re-enactments of real stories.

  • Great way to keep the reality and risks of these jobs in check, very well documented.Sorry to the victims of these accidents and hope they recover.

  • That is tragic and horrifying, but I don't see why he was so ignorant to the fact that the stairs are the safest way down.

  • Why do u people woch this sick shit

  • Why can't you spell?

  • Because it's intresting

  • Because seeing the reality (blood, guts, gore) will stick in your mind, and will keep you thinking about safety.

A person that is always shielded from seeing gruesome scenes is more likely to be careless.

Even driving schools know the importance of showing such graphic videos. It can shock people into thinking about safety more often.

  • young workers are not more at risk! Stupid and unresponsible people with bad jugment are at risk!

  • omg that must be horrible being pulled in

  • vrely sad

  • that...sucks ass

I feel sorry for him, wasnt his fault

  • it was an accident,

  • I am sorry for this to happen to this young man. Employees almost never take responsibility for their actions and always want to blame their employers for their non use of common sence. Typically, when a worker gets hurt, or a fatal injury takes place, the worker is partially responsible for poor judjment. All The training in the world will never replace good judjment. Unfortunate, it could have been avoided.

  • common sense comes with experience and training.

  • sawmills are a dangerous workplace obviously, i worked in one before. even tho u wear caped boots , helmets, gloves , protective glasses, its obvious thats somebody will get hurt, yet the sawmills give you a great salery to compensate with the dangers. i dont know why this guy is complaining

  • i feel bad for this guy

  • I was in an explosion in a factory i waas not killed thank god...

I recently refused a job that was unsafe ...Its just not worth it !!!

  • yeah poor guy.

    not his fault at all.

  • you're so hott i'll still date you.Good luck with everything.

  • cont...

No fault insurer worker's compensation systems are throughout Canada. They reduce costs. And the example I gave above is one way they do it.

  • cont..

The people in this department (i.e. worksafe at the BC workers' compensation board) do this because it's their job, but most of them couldn't give a shit about who dies. It's employers who pay premiums to the workers compensation boards. So it's employers who have final say of what fines are going to be levied. It's just another screwed up system.

    cont...

  • cont...

The BC government will not allow the BC board to put in place massive fines because if companies go out of business, then 1. Lost tax revenue 2. lost jobs for other workers 3. lost votes at the next election. ALL IN ALL. INJURIES WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. This advertisement from the WorksafeBC is BULLSHIT.

    continued..

  • cont...

Anyhow, my point is, the worker's compensation board has the ability to make insurers want to take an interest in the prevention of severe injuries. How? By levying massive fines on workplaces whereby it's determined that through negligence a worker was severely injured. By massive, I talking about $500,000+..enough to put a small company out of business. But of course, there's the point, and this is where it all hinges.

    cont...

  • continued...

Basically when someone is injured, the costs of their injuries (including time off work and health care costs) are covered by the worker's compensation board in BC. However, the insurer does not make restitution to family of the victim for lost of enjoyment of life, and pain and suffering, for which the victim can sue his employer. He just can't sue the employer for health care costs or lost time from work.

    continued...

  • I would like to point something out that many of you probably dont realize.

This injury happened in British Columbia, which has no-fault worker's compensation insurance. What does no-fault mean? It means if the worker is injured on the job his ability to sue his employer is mitigated by the insurer providing the worker's compensation (in this case it's the worker's compensation board in BC).

    continued...

  • poor guy. i am a safety trainer for garbage trucks. i refuse to let these types of accidents happen on my trucks EVER! BEEN DOING SAFETY TRAINING FOR 17 YEARS MY CREWS HAVE NEVER HAD ANY INJURY'S WHAT SO EVER. THE YOUNG MAN IN THIS VIDEO WOULD STILL HAVE HIS LEG IF HAD WORKED FOR ME

  • Mental note;

NEVER feel bad about saying NO to dangerous or suspect work conditions, and NEVER operate machinery that you haven't been trained to use safely and competently.

    Poor guy, how horrible!
