Why are we here?

To outgrow the ancient notion that there is a creator or god and the terror of the 10 commandments. Or perhaps to stay childlike 4 ever and ever. Maybe the "we" in this question is wrong. Some are here just to pester free thinking players.

Yes, religion may have acted in some strange way as a genetic benefit throughout human history, but, now that we are in an age where mankind is in possession of weapons which are capable of completely and utterly destroying the entire world, religion may now very well be a catalyst for our, ultimately suicidal, extinction.
