"current day graphics" are running on about 7 year old hardware(In AAA games at least).
You could easily put an ok gaming desktop together for around 400 USD... That's only a little more than a new Xbox 360 and when the next gen consoles come out you may need to spend around an extra 200 USD(High estimate) on a new video card. All of that of course is disregarding your current PC which could be upgraded for even less.

I always thought the PS3 and 360 were equal, until I noticed that the PSN was free to play multiplayer, and the PS3 didn't need you to drop $100 to use WiFi, which makes it a little hard not to take a side in the pointless war. I still like the 360 though, before the hate-replies start bombarding me.
Really, the only next big step games could take, for me, is virtual reality: actually TALK to the characters, with immersion unparalleled. I know it'll take a long time to get the tech, though...
@Majorasword64 Well your looking at the wrong system if your looking at the Wii. The 3DS recently got 2 new IP's and 2 more (if you count Uprising as a new IP because the gameplay so different and there hasn't been a Kid Icarus game in FOREVER.) But the Wii does have Xenoblade and possibly The Last Story. Also you try to make an original game that doesn't need a shit ton of content the only reason downloadable games are new is because they don't need much space.

@melikeyshootey The idea is that a PC pays for itself. You can do all sorts of work from the PC, or take college courses. If you built it, the knowledge may help grab you a part time job fixing other computers. The games are generally cheaper, as Steam has sales every other month. This holiday I bought 10 games for the price of two.

Little Big Planet, MGS4, and Demon's/Dark Souls are pretty fun games that sometimes I wish that they were for the PC. I have a PS3 specifically for those types of games you couldn't get for the PC.Yes,I am mostly a PC gamer, but sometimes consoles are not too bad. As for controls, I think Demon's/Dark Souls has the tightest controls that you couldn't get from a PC mouse/keyboard.Every machine wins :)

My cpu is from 2007 (core 2 duo 2.93ghz) and my graphics card is from 2008 (9800gt 1gb) and it still outperforms both consoles and can max most games despite being almost 4years old and only midrange at the time (so every few months for an upgrade sounds a bit ridiculous). I payed $700 for my desktop at the beginning of 2009 and the PS3 cost $550 at the time (this is in Australia) so cost wise there was not much difference
@UziIdiot Performance, you are spot on correct. Controls is completely a matter of personal preference. There is no such thing as "the best controls" because if there are people aren't comfortable using a keyboard to play a game (there are quite a fuck ton, don't you worry) then how good is it really? Again, it's personal preference my good man. Flexibility is there, but if you have the money, you can get pro controllers that allow you to customize actions and give you extra buttons (I got one).

Also if you factor in that a gaming PC is a PC which everybody needs and the fact that games are cheaper then you will find that the PC option (with hardware that will outperform any console by far and a way) costs about the same price as a console.
@xXH3ll5xB3llXx This is the thing most PC gamers don't get. A lot of console gamers (and I mean a lot) don't know how to get their hands on a cheap, yet high performance PC. In their limited reference level, they have been convinced that a high performance gaming PC comes at a high price, which is true if you buy it from stores instead of building it yourself, which not everyone knows how to do (amazing isn't it). Not everyone knows everything you know. PC's aren't the be all end all in gaming.
@bourky93 Technically though PC's are the key part of gaming as all consoles are the smaller more compact version of an outdated, cheap PC.
Though obviously if you have nothing but 5 minutes every century of time to spare then console gaming is for you. However if you have the skill required to plug the cables from the back of a console into your TV and the highly complicated task of assembling a Lego construction then you have what it takes to build a PC.
@xXH3ll5xB3llXx Also, you don't seem to understand that most people (myself included) are quite content with having a console for gaming (I use my PC for gaming sometimes). Personally, I am not one of those people who think graphics = good game, so as long as the graphics aren't like minecraft then I am perfectly happy with it. You can argue as long as you want, although you could be right, it doesn't mean we have to just stop using consoles because they are still a viable choice for gaming.

However you will have to admit that there is something to be said for all the games available for the PC.
If you want to play an old console game you need to have that console available to you as well as a physical copy of said game.
Seeing as almost every game on PC ever can still be played on a modern system and the aid of free digital distribution at it's side I'd say that a +1 for PC gaming.
@xXH3ll5xB3llXx Not everyone wants to play old console games / old games in general, leaving that argument moot. If someone actually wants to play an old console game, then getting the console won't be a hassle. Having the old game and console as well has a lot of collector value and over the years (if it works), you can sell it back for more than what you have paid (My brother did that with an old SES). This isn't a competition for points, it's a matter of personal preference and that is all.
What you may have noticed when playing games is this.
MW3 for example has very distinctly large guns by comparison to many other games. This serves the purpose of blocking part of the more difficult to render scene out and provide smoother game play.
Consoles also lock you down to a more narrow field of view so that once again less will be rendered.
Developers are having to work with every little trick you could imagine just to get the games to run smoothly with the slightly higher level of graphics expected with newer games, though there is not the level of hardware required.
@xXH3ll5xB3llXx I see the evident issues that come with running it on the console, however, they aren't bad enough to take away from the experience that I do get from the games that I actually play (I hate FPS games because they are prime examples of games that its main selling point is how "realistic" it is/looks). I know it must be hard to comprehend, but I do not require my games to run seamlessly just so I can have fun. I look over rendering and loading issues anyway cause I'm used to it.

@killthemallism Admittedly to get a good enough PC for that price you have to be prepared to build it yourself. Note however that it is like Lego but a lot easier.
If you have ever actually paid any attention you would notice that consoles all tend to work at a very low frame rate say ~30 fps.
At that stage I personally would say that its time to turn down the old graphics options to get a smoother experience.
With regards to the Updates any system has updates especially as publishers tend to encourage the game developers to release the game and then fix it later.
Usually through a unified service such a steam updates are handled automatically in the background which I no for a fact is a paid premium on PS3.
Also the fact that people use PCs for other things means that you will have it turned on to allow for updates more often.
@xXH3ll5xB3llXx for the average person (not the superbeings you like to think yourself as) building a PC by yourself will be extremly difficult and i've only ever paid attention to fps when it stops working (harldly ever on the console and almost always on the PC) and your PC must be some sort of God PC if it can update while doing something else with absolutly no problems espicially if u can play a agme with no drop in performance amazing do u work at Microsoft or Apple perhaps
Building a PC is easy, you look at the booklet that tells you to screw the thing down slot the other things into the thing and then press the power button, follow those instructions and you have a PC.
Seeing as most of an update is just downloading the file and takes almost no computing power what so ever I would have to say that no significant performance drop can be seen.
@killthemallism I would also like to say that most consoles are rendered useless by any form of multitasking while I enjoy wonderful frame rates while at the same time watching videos on another monitor and listening to my own music because I have the attention span of a goldfish.

@killthemallism As I have stated before my PC is ~2 years old, was already nowhere near high spec or the "God PC" you make it out to be. Furthermore unless you include deliver time for the components you could probably knock together your first PC in about half an hour.

PSN got hacked once and everybody knows about it because it happened very rarely and so it is a big thing while on the other hand when XBL gets hacked all the time it is not a big things cause it happenes everytime a blinking chicken blinks

@Reloading26 That's not true though, or relevant. If he's referring to the online service, then the fact that Ps3's online service has been hacked and unstable is what makes it weaker than the 360's.
@Reloading26 The PSN has shown to be much less reliable due to money/accounts being stolen, this hasn't happened on Live, also, PS3 games tend to rely on buying their own servers separate from PSN because of it's instability. Research any EA online games, they tend to avoid PSN servers.
The ps3 has Blue-ray. Blue-ray = more memory. more memory = larger better quality games, better sound files, better textures, and better overall experience if fully utilized. but alot of game developers don't have the budget or time to do that so drifter402 shut the fuck up.
@NextGenGameDesigner to add on. when you buy a multiplat game for the ps3. you are buying 1/3rd to 1/5th of a game. What I mean is; FFXIII was made to apparent full bluray ps3 compactness, while the xbox had to have 3 dvds. There you have it, it takes 3 xbox dvds to match a ps3 bluray.
People do not understand why blue-ray destroys the dvd. The reason is that blue-ray can hold 25-50 GB. of data on one disk compared to a dvd that will hold about 10GB. max.
pc is the best but second choice is ps3 as sony did say blueray was gonna win the hd race(wich it did) so any sap that bought a 360 hd drive for 200$ got a value of 50$ barely a week after...not to mention ps3 had a lot less bug and no gaming crippling problems like red ring...it quieter and more powerfull plus the internet free(even if id did ge hacked)...only thing i dont like is new version arent backwards compatible major error in my beleif

@GamesAreWin Well, not all the time. If someone wanted to be a full PC gamer, than they would need a PC that could play just about any game. That means it would have to be a high end PC. This is usually $900 - $2000.
The argument over which is best is pointless. They're all outdated. All 3 consoles are becoming more and more strained when trying to play recent games, (course the Wii couldnt do that in the first place). It is becoming very obvious with things like the Battlefield 3 graphics add-on that consoles need to be updated. Or players could man up and get a PC.

Buying it straight off a seller pre-built will obviously be very expensive and cost thousands of dollars (unless they are close friends to you and give you a discount). In other words, it's expensive if you buy it already built.

My cpu is from 2007 (core 2 duo 2.93ghz) and my graphics card is from 2008 (9800gt 1gb) and it still outperforms both consoles and can max most games despite being almost 4years old and only midrange at the time (so every few months for an upgrade sounds a bit ridiculous). I payed $700 for my desktop at the beginning of 2009 and the PS3 cost $550 at the time (this is in Australia) so cost wise there was not much difference

@UziIdiot Performance, you are spot on correct. Controls is completely a matter of personal preference. There is no such thing as "the best controls" because if there are people aren't comfortable using a keyboard to play a game (there are quite a fuck ton, don't you worry) then how good is it really? Again, it's personal preference my good man. Flexibility is there, but if you have the money, you can get pro controllers that allow you to customize actions and give you extra buttons (I got one).

Also if you factor in that a gaming PC is a PC which everybody needs and the fact that games are cheaper then you will find that the PC option (with hardware that will outperform any console by far and a way) costs about the same price as a console.

@bourky93 Technically though PC's are the key part of gaming as all consoles are the smaller more compact version of an outdated, cheap PC.
Though obviously if you have nothing but 5 minutes every century of time to spare then console gaming is for you. However if you have the skill required to plug the cables from the back of a console into your TV and the highly complicated task of assembling a Lego construction then you have what it takes to build a PC.

Personally, I am not one of those people who think graphics = good game, so as long as the graphics aren't like minecraft then I am perfectly happy with it. You can argue as long as you want, although you could be right, it doesn't mean we have to just stop using consoles because they are still a viable choice for gaming.

However you will have to admit that there is something to be said for all the games available for the PC.
If you want to play an old console game you need to have that console available to you as well as a physical copy of said game.
Seeing as almost every game on PC ever can still be played on a modern system and the aid of free digital distribution at it's side I'd say that a +1 for PC gaming.

If someone actually wants to play an old console game, then getting the console won't be a hassle. Having the old game and console as well has a lot of collector value and over the years (if it works), you can sell it back for more than what you have paid (My brother did that with an old SES). This isn't a competition for points, it's a matter of personal preference and that is all.

What you may have noticed when playing games is this.
MW3 for example has very distinctly large guns by comparison to many other games. This serves the purpose of blocking part of the more difficult to render scene out and provide smoother game play.
Consoles also lock you down to a more narrow field of view so that once again less will be rendered.

I know it must be hard to comprehend, but I do not require my games to run seamlessly just so I can have fun. I look over rendering and loading issues anyway cause I'm used to it.

@killthemallism Admittedly to get a good enough PC for that price you have to be prepared to build it yourself. Note however that it is like Lego but a lot easier.
If you have ever actually paid any attention you would notice that consoles all tend to work at a very low frame rate say ~30 fps.
At that stage I personally would say that its time to turn down the old graphics options to get a smoother experience.
I would say ~50 fps would be a minimum.

With regards to the Updates any system has updates especially as publishers tend to encourage the game developers to release the game and then fix it later.
Usually through a unified service such a steam updates are handled automatically in the background which I no for a fact is a paid premium on PS3.
Also the fact that people use PCs for other things means that you will have it turned on to allow for updates more often.

Building a PC is easy, you look at the booklet that tells you to screw the thing down slot the other things into the thing and then press the power button, follow those instructions and you have a PC.
Seeing as most of an update is just downloading the file and takes almost no computing power what so ever I would have to say that no significant performance drop can be seen.

@NextGenGameDesigner to add on. when you buy a multiplat game for the ps3. you are buying 1/3rd to 1/5th of a game. What I mean is; FFXIII was made to apparent full bluray ps3 compactness, while the xbox had to have 3 dvds. There you have it, it takes 3 xbox dvds to match a ps3 bluray.

People do not understand why blue-ray destroys the dvd. The reason is that blue-ray can hold 25-50 GB. of data on one disk compared to a dvd that will hold about 10GB. max.

pc is the best but second choice is ps3 as sony did say blueray was gonna win the hd race(wich it did) so any sap that bought a 360 hd drive for 200$ got a value of 50$ barely a week after...not to mention ps3 had a lot less bug and no gaming crippling problems like red ring...it quieter and more powerfull plus the internet free(even if id did ge hacked)...only thing i dont like is new version arent backwards compatible major error in my beleif

The argument over which is best is pointless. They're all outdated. All 3 consoles are becoming more and more strained when trying to play recent games, (course the Wii couldnt do that in the first place). It is becoming very obvious with things like the Battlefield 3 graphics add-on that consoles need to be updated. Or players could man up and get a PC.
