Losing weight and toning up isn't about looking good. Gosh, I don't go the gym to impress anyone, I go there for myself. For my own body. So if people think they're ugly as hell, shut up and sit on your fat ass at home. EVERYONE knows toning up isn't unicorns and rainbows. You have to make sacrifices.
It's pretty common knowledge that your body quickly adapts to new exercise, this is why you should change your weights and exercise routine at least every 6 weeks - otherwise you plateau. So you may get 6 weeks of improvements walking in these but pretty soon your body will adapt and then they will diminish in effectiveness - worth a hundy?
The toning shoes are fugly and uncomfortable to walk in. You're also announcing to everyone that you're wearing exercise shoes. I got a pair of Smartsole exercise insoles on amazon that fit into my shoes and sneakers that are easier to walk in and are more comfortable. They're also less than $30. I wear them everywhere I go, and I felt the difference in my legs and butt almost immediately.

So here's the long and short -- you want to actually have results? Get over yourself and get the MBTs. No there are not pretty. If you are looking to be pretty, get the reeboks. Want to have a middle ground, get the skechers. No matter what, the change you see and feel is one over weeks and months, not days. My mother is a nurse of 20 years and her entire crew wears either MBTs or EasySpirit's version of them. They all have tried skechers and reeboks, but MBTs get the best vote hands down.
Why does everyone want to be skinny. there's a whole bunch of books and blogs about being skinny and umm am I the only girl who doesn't want to be? I'm not fat but not skinny either and don't want to be. i'd buy them to tone stuff not to be thin, eww. No offense to anyone tho, jus saying.
I ended up getting the Sketchers ones. I really like them, and it's a lot of fun to do some of the exercises they suggest while wearing them. My favorite is to use the curve and rock back and forth while standing still...I can really feel my calves after that!
Ah I forgot to mention, I ended up buying the Mary Jane styles. They're at least a little more fashionable than the sneakers and can be worn while doing day to day things as well.
Impressive! It's worth a try even if the shoes are pricey at $100 most places. Another contender is now AVIA Avi-Motion shoe that just came out for women. Offers some features over the Skecher - full leather upper, better arch support with the patented Archrocker in the sole, and a cantilever system in the heel that looks like it will wear better. Only available in womens in white, but mens to come out in March or so. Feel similar to the Skechers. Not sure how they will be on ice and snow.
I think the easytones are looking great ;) but the shapeups ..uhm, not so much xD

So we're supposed to trust the results of a study by the same people who are selling the shoes? Sounds just a little dubious to me.

Just go to the gym or walk around the neighborhood for 30-45 minutes.. That woman that wore the MBT's looked very dumb walking down the street.
It will take forever to see the results w/ these. I'd only use these for maintaince, NOT a replacement to regular exercise.

You can buy shoes like these through Avon for $50. They're leather too. They're called "Curves for Women Toning Trainer Sole".
