  • press 9 and listen to the sound over and over

  • fuck thAT was pumped

  • man i dont like this new youtube player its harder to pause on parts of the swing you want to see oh yeah seve rip brilliant player with a true passion for the game i read his biography best quote "the difference between a 78 and a 65 is this much indicates with his thumb and index finger"

  • what's with all the swooning? It's just a guy swinging a stick

  • the definition of poetry in motion. what a noise!

  • Press 9 and listen to a sweeeet hit

  • Freeze frame this at the top position. High hands, over 90 degrees shoulder turn, open clubface pointed more at the camera than the sky. This is not your modern body-turn driven, slowed release, swing, it's a big arm driven lash at the ball with a ton of snap at the bottom. Sure, he's going to have a lot of face rotation through impact, and yes he'll spray it around a bit, but he generates a load of SS with what appears to be little effort.

  • even though he's not here anymore, I believe Steve finished his purpose to inspire us Golfers!

  • RIP sevy i hope you break 60 as an average in heaven, im sure hogan and snead are waiting for you too

  • RIP Seve.....it's not everyday the world loses a genius.....nobody ever played the game with more craft and imagination.....we miss you.

  • I call that an ideal swing

    RIP my dear Severiano

  • Energy is infinite time is for humans now is for immortal s peace seve

  • You were a beautiful man Seve. There are not enough positive adjectives for you. True legend and a total inspiration.

  • Rest in peace, beautiful one.

You gave us a lot more than golf.

A true legend who will never be forgotten.

    You will be missed Seve.

  • RIP

  • R.I.P SEVE :(

  • RIP

  • I'm very sad today and in tears after hearing about the passing of Seve. He was an inspiration to so many people all over the world and especially so here in the United States. America loved Seve and probably more than he realized. Seve was the first golfer I ever saw that had this intense passion and fighting spirit for the game and he was very exciting to watch on TV. I will have great memories of him always

Goodby old friend and rest in peace

    Indiana, United States

  • rip seve

  • did he died?

  • Thanks Seve, RIP

  • Thank you for alle the great moments

  • RIP Seve

  • R.I.P Seve, A Real golfer with a real swing, Pure talent compared to modern days robot swings ( Mike Weir ) May he rest in peace.

  • @CiaranRooney125 Actually, Mike Weir is still alive.

  • @holyfuckareyoustupid I mean may Seve rest in peace i ment was Mike Weir has a very robotic not natural swing ( In my opinion )

  • @holyfuckareyoustupid He died this morning?

  • @eatzz1 Yes, sadly Seve Ballesteros died this morning. People are apparently also saying that Mike Weir took a swing at his own robot !?! No doubt that blame for the robotic altercation can be laid at Mike Weirs grief over Seve's untimely passing.

  • RIP

  • He was great. Sorry to hear he is near death.

  • SCARFAAACE! watch an interview, he is scarface

  • @BRIANisALRIGHT SHUTTHEFUKUPPPP! stupid , he is seve

  • King swing bro

  • This could be my favorite shot from my favorite player of all time! What a sound.

  • In case anyone was wondering, he hit it to six feet and made eagle.

  • For a while I was worried about my left foot spinning out towards the target. I used to do that and stopped many years ago. But now I see Phil, Bubba, Seve and even Jack doing it in videos. Game didnt get any better but for some reason I thought it was a flaw.

  • He was awesome, nought more to say!

  • Man those were the days of real golf, persimmon woods, blade irons - pure sounds. Only a good swing would produce good golf.

Now its fat guys, with bing sounds and awful golf swings that get rewards. Those were the true days, 1980's. Seve what a beautiful free-flowing golf swing, just beautiful to watch.

  • @ruasetepovos Pause this video at :10. Absolutely gorgeous setup position.

  • @hotroute it's just about perfect isn't it? I wish there was the view from behind as well so yo ucould really get the feel of his set up. It's what we should all aim at really.

God, I used to love watching him play.

  • @Stanters1967 His grip is one that nearly all the US based magazines referred to in their instructional pieces back in the 80's. Do you remember him having the little Elk - esque forward waggle in his pre-shot as he has in this shot at the 0:02 mark? What I should have posted was what a gorgeous pre-shot routine and set-up.

  • @ruasetepovos i'd say thats more how the late 90's and early 2000's were. golf has become such an athletic game now. no one on top of the world rankings is fat or has too bad of a swing anymore. even guys like phil mickelson who used to be heavy started changing his body to keep up

  • Seve's swing, athleticism and tempo were so beatifully combined. I saw him make some absolutely gorgeous looking swings and the ball would go way off line. But put him somewhere with only one option and he'd use the same majestic motion to make the improbable look like a foregone conclusion.

  • if the teeboxes were put in the woods instead of the fairway this guy would have 20 majors

  • one of the greatest swings Ive ever seen

  • he was so exciting to watch , what a athlete to make "golf" exciting......tiger had it goin, but he likes to have excitment with "porn stars"....

  • never gets old

  • What an incredible golf swing, i don't give a shit about winners, this is golf, this is beautiful. Seve is a genius,

  • Seve was the finest golfer since Sam Snead and Ben Hogan. Watson, Nicklaus, Trevino and Miller were also close. Golf is a television show, a spectator sport, a battle of skills and, against other sports, a show of controlled passion. I don't think anyone has really stood out since Seve. Maybe Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy if he starts to win more.

  • Seve- Get Well- Get 100%.. You are Da Man- You are a REAL Champion - Humble, grateful and gracious. Real Champions are dedicated to a mighty purpose..and that means helpful to others.. That is YOU, Seve!

    God Bless!

  • check the best lessons on the tube out at hitmanhawky and seve i hope you continue to get better we miss seeing you on the course thanks for many years of excitement hitmanhawky

  • Seve is the Man!

  • Comment from a real amateur: a little stiff in the hips, or what do you say, Ben Hogan?

  • Damn, he hit that ball hard! He was hitting well over 300 with the persimmon driver!

  • he didnt swing at full power either, I love the sound of blade irons like that though, yeah, Seve just had a natural ability to just crush it pure without any effort

  • I've probably seen this shot a hundred times in my life.... Always worth another look.

I will never "forgive" Seve for the way he outdueled Watson in the '84 Open (hehe). But how can you not love this guy? One of the most beautiful golf swings, plays with a lot of passion and wears his emotions on his sleeve. Deane Beamon, admit your mistake!

Seve, glad you are still with us and best of luck to you on your continuing battle. I'm sure you'll pull through the way you have in the past.

  • Tigers great but Seve has more charisma without a shadow of a doubt.

  • tiger has the best reactions ever. tiger is the greatest character golf has ever seen, nobody pumps the fist quite like tiger!

  • Fine, your entitled to your opinion. Did notice you were under 20 so did not grow up watching Seve.

  • Tiger is not Seve and will never be.

  • I read seves book on golf. Great read. I started to adopt his methods and I had some success. Then one day at the golf range a golf instructor(sales pitch) came along saying I should do this and that and messed up the functional swing I was building. I'm going back to seves book and start from scratch again.

  • the good ole' days of playing with forged irons, I love that sound of a forged iron head smashing the golf ball.

  • awesome set up position.

  • I don't understand how his swing could be considered weird or unorthodox. There is so much fluidity and balance here. There was a "top ten strange swings" video that included Seve's, but not Hubert Green's or Fuzzy Zoeller's?

  • to me seve had one of the best swings ever.what i dont understand about modern day players is they try and be too precise with everything.take harrington for example - he wins 3 majors the biggest prize in his sport and decides ive got to change something-why-you have just reached the pinnacle of your sport with the swing you have got.

  • if you listened to what he had to say you'd know that he's trying to take his game to the next level. why do think tiger changed his swing after winning the masters by 12 at age 21? because tiger knew to get better he had to change his swing to become more consistent. harrington obviously has the same mindset, he's never content with his game, always looking for improvement. that's why he's going to win at least one more major before he's done.

  • is there a next level when you had just won 3 of the last 6 majors ? i personally think harrington will win another 3 majors at least because he is very mentally tough and never gives in.

  • is there a next level when you win the masters by 12? yes there is, tiger's at that level right now. Harrington has said it himself several times that he is trying to improve his game even more. It's not like he's stupid, I'm sure he's aware that he won 3 majors and that that is an incredible feat, so there's got to be logic behind him changing his swing. I'm sure he didn't just decide to change his swing and become a worse player. Think before you post please.

  • i was talking about paddy not woods-if you win 3 of 6 majors id say your'e swing was in pretty good nick - wouldn't u ?i know it's hard to win majors but if u win 3 in 6 id say there is a fair chance u r going to win more.harrington is the real deal buddy.will never win a huge amount of regular events but he will win more majors.

  • i love harrington but i'll tell you right now he ain't winning three more majors. Do you follow golf at all? You do realize it's incredibly hard to win a major right? Paddy's already 40, i think three more majors might be a bit of a stretch to say the least. If he did that he would be one of like 8 players to win that many majors, he's good, but he's nowhere near a top10 player of all-time.

  • paddy is a late bloomer and im telling u now he can win another 3.yes i do follow golf my friend and i am very knowledgable on the subject.paddy is woods main challenger over next 5 years.

  • no he's not, look at the year he just had. I'm a Paddy fan, but be realistic the 3 majors were a bit of a fluke in the sense that he hasn't won many regular events. Great players win majors, yes, but they also win regular events simply because their games are very good so they win week in week out. Paddy does not win regularly, Phil is much more of a challenger to Tiger. Harrington is nowhere near as good as Phil.

  • padraig's had a poor year because of the swing changes but played very well in the last few months of the season-only a few loose shot's denying him a win.yes i would say phil is more talented than harrington but i think padraig has bigger balls to get the job done(in the majors).let's see who wins more majors by 2020-phil or padraig.

  • Padraig has won three majors in my opinion because of his mental game and scoring game. Both of which are right up there with the best, but I think there are many players who are much more talented in other areas. Phil is easily world no. 2, 2010 for me was gonna be Tigers year. I thought we would see another 2000. But with recent events I think we're gonna see Phil do really well. Phils game is in a really good place at the moment and if Tiger is out of sorts I expect Phil to win a few majors.

  • he is two tournements, the bridgestone invitational, fourth round they were going at each other all day untill paddy hit it into the water because of a rules guy,and the 2nd or 3rd round at the pga they were at each other again but both slowly fell away

  • He,s 38 retard and he will win 3 more I think and if he does then he is one of the greatest I think he will out do faldo

  • The commentator just said he named his cat after ballesteros... It was not a bad swing. Seve has the best and most natural golfswing of all. He will be back :)

  • 23 years ago - what a swing - what a CHAMPION.

  • Best tempo ever! Is there a better swing?

  • best swing ever!!

    what a headspeed!

  • most beautiful swing ever

  • Poetry in motion.

  • seve was great but tiger is better

  • Whoa...way out on a limb there, ain'tcha? ;-)

  • Same, apparently it didnt get enough viewings.

  • a TRUE genius

  • forget the comparisons , seve was the best , i wouldnt cross the street to watch woods but i would walk to alaska to watch seve, different class

  • Lets see if Tiger has the carisma when he is 60, that Seve has.

  • true!

  • To bad he yanked it into the water on 15 with that beautiful swing! LOL

  • seve´s swing was fucking amazing and now too

  • Tiger vs Seve comparisons are pointless.

Different era, different equipment, different courses, different opponents.

On his day he was the best player of his era, his rivals being Norman, Langer, Lyle, Strange & Faldo.

In as much as you can compare players from different eras, Tiger's record is the best.

But Seve was just as special in his heyday.

  • Tiger would make Seve cry.

  • Thats a good joke there rob.

  • Only when he trod on Seve's foot!

  • I just wish the Tiger, excuse me, the Golf Channel would play all the majors and ryder cups of the last 30 years instead of every single time Tiger has won.

  • @herbfletcher totally agree-i think tiger is a great golfer but i am really get sick of the lovefest that takes up soooo much time on tgc. i would love to see more old shell wonderful world of golf with snead, nelson, player etc. since they paved the way for woods and others.

  • @herbfletcher

Agreed, the Tiger jock riding on that channel is agony. There are so many legendary episodes of Shell's Wonderful world of golf, and so many amazing matches they won't show because they would rather show Tiger.

They sometimes make it seem like Golf didn't even exist pre-Tiger

  • @herbfletcher could not agree more

  • I don't think Tiger is many leagues above Seve. Head to head in their primes I would put my money on Seve. He will not put up with Tiger's stare

  • faldo was waaaaay past his best when he played in the opens that tiger played in, there's clearly no comparison.

  • If you want to swing a golf club like Seve, you do the following:

    1. k position address.

    2. shoulders and arms move away at the same time. Tie this in with belly button to get hips moving also ie imaginary connection between hands and belly button.

    3. Keep arms same distance apart right throughout swing.

    4. Look at back of ball until gone.

    5. Before you finish backswing you start back with your hips. Spit second timing but if you do this you will get enough lateral movement.

  • ........... and still less than 1 in a billion people will be able to hit a ball like that!

  • LISTEN TO THAT CONTACT

  • IMO Seve was the best ever. Nicklaus and Tiger are the greatest winners ever and I admire them (and other greats) immensely but neither of them as players compare to Seve. On his day he was as inspired, defiant, as tough as any player and he had a perfect game, perfect enough to help him out when in need too ironic as that is. But more than anything Seve was beyond being a golfer. He was an artist. And that for me is the greatest compliment I can pay him. I for one will never forget seeing him.

  • tiger's the best

better than seve he's no where closer to tiger obviously tiger is like god defeated also nick faldo norman said to be the greatest of all times fuck that!!!!!!!

tiger thrashed faldo in the opens'

    so please !!!!!!

compare seve with faldo or ben or jack but not tiger

  • you cant compare the two, equipment has changed vastly between then and now so and the change certainly now suits tigers game and im sure it would also suit seve's game as they both play a similar kind of golf. I still think that seve is better and more enjoyable to watch than tiger even though tiger is pretty awesome

  • the real point aint that!!!!!!!

tiger is flexible real athletic swing that is the key point

have you seen any player as athletic no!!!!

compare it to physical ability and mental too

then you will get the answer

the best player has to be a strong athletic kind of a person, a simple point

  • Gibberish

  • What's really amazing about Seve is that he made mincemeat of all those guys who went to college (Americans mainly). While they were in thier classrooms studying golf he was out on a beach with one club hitting stones. I think he had the most beautiful and graceful swing ever. Get well soon!

  • like ive said all along , seve is the greatest golfer who ever lived,. anyone who has ever been lucky enough to see him up close and i have more times than i can count would know, he is a true genius , tiger isnt in the same league

  • renown pete, i totally agree with you. I know Tiger has won more majors but Seve Ballesteros is the best golfer of all time.

  • The only thing correct about your comment is that Tiger isn't in the same league, he is many leagues above Ballesteros.

  • Hoping you get well soon Seve, you'll always be one of the Great Champions and what you did for the Europe and the Ryder Cup as well as the US tour.

  • What a pro and such a great guy too.

  • He was the best of all time.

  • @hertblue history begs to differ

  • You know for what technology and swing knowledge that was around at the time Seve was way ahead of the game. When most pros dribbled a 1 iron around 210-220 yards seve was bending them 250! I followed him around wentworth in 1985 as a young kid and still am blown away by the way this guy moved the ball. Dont forget it was a wound three piece and persimmon woods. Unreal amount of feel.

  • I agree, I saw Seve in the 1983 Spanish Open and he was in the trees, hit the ball about 150 yards absolutely straight then the ball turned left 90 degrees and went straight on the green about 5 feet from the hole. It was magical to behold. Tiger couldn't have got anywhere near doing that. In my book when he was at his best he was the best of all time. Get well soon Seve, we all miss you!

  • Wow!

  • beautiful swing! i just love the sound of seve's swing too...it seemed like the ball exploded upon impact!

    muy bien severiano!

  • Seve was my hero growing up and my all time favourite golfer. Brilliant to watch and bags of charisma. But i do not think he can accurately be called the best ever golfer. He won about 80 tournaments for sure but golfers are based on their major record. And having only won 2 different majors (US Masters & British Open) a total of 5 times, unfortunately, i feel that historically it will be more accurate to say he is in the top ten of all time but not the best.

  • What a beautiful golf swing, brings tingles down your spine when you watch up. Seve was one the greatest ever, he had incredible talent and incredible touch like no other golfer. What a wonderful free flowing golf swing he had.

  • totally agree, seve was god , bigger than jesus, all time best

  • pure beauty, the way he held the club and the grace of the swing, he was the best player who ever lived

  • He had exceptional talent and it was great to watch him play. But it's all about the majors, and with a total of five for his career I just don't think you can say he's the best. Other golfers with huge talent but not enough major wins for that that talent level were Miller and Norman.

  • seve was the best , peter dobreiner saw hogan , nicklaus and snead all at their peak and close up and he said if they were all at their peak seve would beat them all, end of discussion, people who judge by statistics alone are poor judges of human ability

  • Oh, if Peter Dobreiner said that I guess the argument is closed! :-)

  • he new alot more than you and me and he actually saw them at their peak, and how you can compere seve to norman and miller is a joke, seves tour wins and his ryder cup record put him miles ahead of them

  • If Ballesteros was the best (and, better than Nicklaus), he wouldn't have let the '86 AND '87 Masters titles get away from him. Seve simply choked in '86 in the wake of Nicklaus' back nine charge, and I'll never forget him walking back up the 10th fairway in '87 after making bogey to be eliminated by Norman and Mize. Seve never even contended in the US Open. Couldn't drive the ball straight enough. Great player, yes, but not in the class of Hogan or Nicklaus IMHO. More like a Tom Watson.

  • The Golden Bear perhaps could be the best golfer of all times and perhaps Tiger Woods will be the most victorious golfer. But "Sevy" Ballesteros is just, without doubts, the most charismatic golfer ever.

  • Very aptly put...

  • Seve is a true legend. Seve at his peak v Tiger at The Masters would have been awesome. He should have won the 1986 Masters. The most charasmatic golfer ever.

  • How good was that swing?

  • Very good, it ended up 10 feet and he holed it for eagle...very classy

  • I know, I was making a comment in the form of a question... Too bad the video did not keep running. He speaks to the ball in Spanish while it is in mid flight, then walks down the fairway and shakes his brothers hand, almost as if this shot wrapped up the Masters.
