  • It'd be one thing if you actually put some effort into making a video that went along with the audio, and did something remotely artistic, but simply uploading cd tracks to youtube without any video at all is just giving away an artists music for the sake of doing it. & do we really need 18 people to upload an identical audio track? Good riddance to bad clutter.

  • To flyingsuperpetis ~ hold up geezer, I've made over sixty vids. No one wants to spend time making a vid they know will likely disappear in a couple of weeks, as often happens with particular artists...such as Waits.

Why people upload identical tracks, I don't know? (I guess many just don't bother to search whats up already properly). Two years ago there was no posting of this track, and I'm glad I didn't waste my time making a vid for this one as it was blocked instantly on upload ;-j

  • dude, if you were a musician (and had a record deal) you would have no problem with enforcing copyright laws... it's how these people make a living... besides that, it very rarely has anything to do with the actual artists. it's due to corporate revenue loss prevention. it's a business not a charity. have some respect man. i bought this album on CD and paid 75 dollars for it on vinyl. if you like an artist you should support them by shelling out the measly 10-15 for the album.

  • to aschleman ~ you miss the point ; preventing music being heard stifles sales rather than increases them and plenty of artists agree but Waits, like Prince, isn't one of them. Where did you get the idea that I don't buy music!? Media like Youtube has brought more artists to my ear that I may not otherwise of heard and as a result I've purchased their music. Regarding respect ; yes, for the musicans, but as for the corporations, forget it, there're a bad business (as are many charities!) ;-j

  • @ELGROOVER

So your mad at the artist who has defended his songs against those who used them in commercials without his permission. And since he has to keep defending his copyright or loose the ability to control it you moan that he has to file a notice for you to change the song. Your not thinking, you yell because the guy is defending his creations the way the LAW dictates. And he has given the results to charity.

  • to JAF30

I was never trying to 'sell' anything other than his song but it was muted at upload...so I made the swap in protest. It's the *over zealous* enforcement of copyright on media like here that I'm against, not copyright per se. As I originally wrote, "A missed opportunity for people to hear (and then buy) your music..."

As for the "LAW", that's not for most peoples benefit, so please don't tout that at me ; especially when it comes to corporate law (the very worst)!! ;-j

  • @ELGROOVER

So you personally .. and I do mean personally know that Tom Waits has a attitude just like Prince. If not then why are you stating that you do? And man, your saying corporate law is the worst and the law doesn't benifit people? Yeah tell me when your car/bike or what ever gets stolen. Or some corporation makes something that kills people and then gets charged with it. According to your logic that bit of corp law is bad too. So law even if it protects you is bad..dreamer.

  • to JAF30 ~ ...because of what I read of him in interview, in his own words.... regarding his attitude to copyright.

In real life, as opposed to what is portrayed in the msm, corporations are largely unaccountable ; take a look at....

    /watch?v=Pin8fbdGV9Y

...and the rest of that documentary, if it interests you.

I'm not against laws, just against bad laws protecting the corrupt and greedy ;-j

  • Dittos to your comments in re the record industry shooting itself in the foot (and they're trying to do that with radio, itself, too!), but I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention that "Black Coffee" is a seriously-wailing slab of Blues in its own right! Five Stars!

  • i sure do wish this was the song advertised i sure do love tom waits darn

  • See the 'Video Response' above, left by 'nemesiskxx'

  • I see that's disappeared now ;-j

  • this definitely wasn't gun street girl.. but it was sweet

  • You know what? As much as I always hate on these record companies... This is one album you should go out and buy twice. One for you and one for someone you love.

  • Buy the album, yes....but BUY IT 2ND HAND!!

They don't deserve making sales by enforcing copyright like this. Preventing the music being heard stifles sales r@ther than increases them.

  • @ezekieloak

You are someone who understand music and buying music. Buy what you love not what is pushed on you and share that music. The record companies make more money on what is popular not what is real music.

  • I dont get how Wayne can see my rock garden and you cant James????????

  • I can now, but it was unavailable the other month!?

  • EL, you as music man sure picked the thorniest patch of the "new and improved" ScrewyouTube to try to set up camp.

I agree with you. If it hadn't been for YouTube, and your shares, I never would have known about Tom Waits.

I mean, these dumbrowskis one the one hand PAY DJs to play their stuff, and stop free publicity for it on the other hand. Duh!

  • Yea....numptiness abounds! (Did you find the JB/Funky President replacement 'Fear' by Doug Cox?)

  • Its a crying shame but hey James, have another channel for uploading/testing the water then delets and upload again when its safe, or just fav it to your own channel, so many views, soon it will be against the riles to even utter the title to yourself, I just dont fathem the whole thing, By right Youtube shoud not exist everything came from somewhere, its crazy !!! Cheers James

  • I do th@ now, re testing...didn't know you could then upload anything th@'s been rejected by any other YT account? Are you sure about th@?

As for the whole idea of 'ownership' per se, it's very 'iffy'. Whilst it's fine to 'own' something to use, when ownership becomes more about depriving someone else than it is about making use of something....th@'s just not right.

Take land for instance, as many do!! How can land be rightfully owned? Wh@ are we 'landless' folk to do? Freaking levit@e or wh@?

  • You are right, Take the Indians in America classic example, but thingdgs changed slowly back , No wot i meant was upload to the other channel to see if it gets rejected, then if it does your chann wont have a warning slapped on it, dont forget three strikes and youre out, if it survives the testing channel upload it again to yours , then you know it will be ok, if you catch my drift , cheers James

  • Yep, I know wh@ mean re testing, rejected stuff stays rejected. There seems to be no hard and fast ruling on the amount of warning given. I've had more than three blocked for sure. Some are allowed many more rejections while others hardly any ; it's bloodly nonsense. YouTube shouldn't close anyones account for copyright infringement. The issue should just be between the individual and the copyright owner.

The "or wh@?" I ended with previously has three basic choices. Be a slave, resist or die.

  • Never knew Tom was so funky and I am a fan.

  • lol....he ain't, but Halfway To Gone are!!

♪♫ ...Banging on the table with an old tin cup.....♪♫ ~ Yea right, please give generously to the 'blind', greedy and overfed!!

Rain Dogs is a good album. If you dig Waits go and buy it but BUY IT 2ND HAND, the stingy sods don't deserve another sale.

When Compact Cassettes came on the market, home taping was alleged to be killing music and musicians livelihoods. Th@ was the bs then, the same bs th@ goes on about new technology now.

  • You can always rent it from the library too. lol

  • The library!! Yea...wh@ an outrageous concept th@ is!!! A place where people can access books, music and films for *free!!! Wh@ a lovely old fashioned piece of philantrophic wonder th@ is, still surviving despite todays 'free market' ; which as we all know, is anything but free.

[*free - not really, paid for by the community, for the community out of local taxes. How long can this continue before being 'maximised for profit potential' and the librarians are taking 'power naps' etc..etc..;-]

  • Why don't you just remove the gosh darn thing

  • Good question. Because I choose to highlight the short-sighted stupidity of the record companies and artists when they enforce their copyright in this way.

  • I believe you are mistaken. This is 4'33'', not Gun Street Girl.

  • This special YouTube version of Gun Street Girl is brought to you courtesy of the The Island Def Jam Music Group. Def being the oper@ive word. Not one of UMG's better moments. Yes, it's true the resemblance to 4'33" is striking!! Holy moley!! JC could have a case for plagerism here!!!!

  • ...or plagiarism even! May a plague of locusts blight the deeds of all copyright worriers : D

  • WTF?

  • Thanks for trying anyways....Great song!!!

  • No sound

  • Yea....it's a shame, such a good song and we can't hear it here. An instant copyright claim was made so I 'muted' it (r@her than delete it).

It's still a good read and I wanted to see how much interest there was in the song. I think the record companies lose more potential sales than they gain by this kind of action.....sorry for any disappointment caused :·(
