Any schmuck who has studied flute acoustics can tell you internal geometry is what is hugely significant,Not material.Science has been done on this matter, only people don't want to believe it. I own a Burkart flute and love it,but the best flute I ever played was a 19K Hammig. hehe.Nice playing!
Seems to me that in this demo all that was acomplished was the mechanical merits of each particular model. Which realizing that all of these instruments are hand made high-end models, they should all be playing on a quite perfect mechenism. If one wanted to compair the tonal and accoustical qualities of an instrument of different materials, I would recomend demonstrating long tones in each of the registers in various dynamics and shadings. I'm not sure, has this been done before?
Hello Nina im planing on buying a new flute but i dont know which on to get a Brio B3 or a Azumi 3000 series i love both but dont know which one to get the Brio sound urban and the azumi sounds very nature like weird way of puting it but its the way i hear it i would love your advice on wich one to buy thanks.
u know that its hard to different them with this distance? gold flute is mostly made for people who play in orchester or band for a warm but big sound.
and it depends on the maker too.
for exemple powell sounds much more than a muramatsu or yamaha but it has a not that clean sound than them.
only thing about those flutes is that there kind of dull,
the manufacturers try to sell the gold flutes as having a dark centered sound, but in reality the more gold you put on it the more you muffle the sound.
I have a question. I've been playing the flute for almost 10 years now. my parents were planning on buying me a new flute for my 20th birthday. i've had the same Trevor James flute since i was 12 and i would like to know what flutes you recommend. i've seen so many different brands. i want something professional. what do you recommend?
I know how you feel, well, excpt i started on the piccolo this christmas.
from beginner/noob to bigginer/noob:
Dont be scared! Definatley watch nina and learn what she does, as she is extremely talented and explains things well. for the first few months, just kinda have fun, learn the fingerings, actually, i learned those beforehand, but they are pretty easy, and the same as they go up in the scale, excpet the highest =). Ill see if i can upload mine for you ok?
(Sorry had to cut it into two comments to make the comment less than 500 letters and stuff.)Though you may have a point about the material and riser and the embochure cut. In addition, just because it's made by the same "handmade company" does not mean they are all the same.
Personally my favorite was the 1st one because it sounded so light, but I think there was a flaw in your experiment; you had to play with a different embouchure on each flute because you weren't use to that particular flute. So if you get used to each one, try the test again, the test will then be able to prove more than just that you sound great on any flute and that the embouchure and resistance of the material of a flute can effect the sound.
Thanks for the wonderful visual/audio examples of these flutes. In shopping for a flute, this has been extremely helpful in narrowing down and confirming my expectations, especially with platinum risers. Lyrical playing--great!
Hahaha.. you know.. I like 3,9 and 10 the best? So I think I can tell the difference between the metals!!

I have one like #7. Lovely all of them, but you soound better on your flute. It produces more of a big warm sound than the gold, and silver ones.

hmm, based on the first 4 flutes i listened to i really like the 4th one =] i like flute that has a warmer sound and less crisp.
i only play on a yfl-674, but it does me the job
(to be really honest, i wouldn't mind trading mine for any of the above xD)

I'm using a Burkart 19.5K serial number 431, and I do find it sings better than 14k flutes, with a little more oomp to the sound. great playing Nina!
