the red one does have something about it I like. I have the old one. I Like fuzz pedals mostly but the old one for me is that nasty one likes sometimes. I do however like the red one. Do you have a comparison vid with the new white one? Good stuff mate.
Hey, guy! I´m actually buying this one(Tube King) and it´s coming without adapter (power supply)... Could you help wich adapter is more suitable for it? Ibanez AC309? Or maybe AC109? Or which original adapter comes with the new pedal? Thanks
I have never heard of this tube king by ibanez. I along with many others are in love with the tube screamer. I would be very interested to hear this pedal with a strat through an old fender tube amp with the gain on the pedal set a little lower. I much prefer the older one. the gain "all the way up" tells us nothing about the pedal. it just tells us that you can plug a modern sounding guitar with high out put humbuckers into a pedal and get a super noisy sound. lets here the strat! thanks!
Thanks for the comparison. As an older player into more blues and classic rock I prefer the older one. What tubes are you using even if they are stock please?
Hey man you don't suck! some prick don't know what he's talking about, oh and ur guitar looks AWESOME, thanks for the comparison, now cos of u im gettin the new one
Thanks for the comparison vid! Ever since I got a Sovtek Mig50 (used to have one back in the day), my other distortion boxes just aren't cutting it. I'm thinking the newer Tube King is more up my alley.
Thanks for the demo. I have the old Tube King and I'm very happy with it, but was curious how the new one compared. The Old King is patented by BK Butler thus is probably akin to the Real Tube/Tube Works/Chandler design, which uses lower voltage "starved plate" technology. The new one uses high voltage to simulate a tube amp's preamp. I make the Old King sound more like an OD by putting in a 12au7 tube. Incidentally it was cool to hear the Ampeg J-20.
they both sound cool... im slowly leaving the whole distortion pedal scene and sticking with amp distortion, only problem with it is the squealing im getting from my pickup... which noise reduction pedals dont help at all.. :/ but the tube king sounds like an awesome improvement from the metalcore ml-2(which i currently own), how much does it go for?
@lmsjr Your actually very good in my opinion. The only problems i had were the fact that you spent almost 5 minutes talking, and that you didnt play anything metal styled because the new tube king is skewed WAY towards the metal end of music wheras the old one is styled for rock.
i actually like him talking cause he says all the information i need. So i dont really have to go to gutiarcenter or email zzounds or sweetwaters questions about the pedal.
I prefere the new tube king, I'm still waiting for it to show up at GC, BTW-sweet maple top man! I have a jackson warrior(floyd, and 81/85 emgs)!! :-)
Great video! accurate! Finally I prefer Old Tube King!!! It a Made in Japan pedal and It's bilt very good. And if you change the internal tube, you can take other good sound! expand the tonal possibility.
I've been playing for over 20 years now. I think that the original Tube King is the best. The "New" Sound, is completely over-processed. You can literally hear the simulated bottom end to the tone.
I have owned a lot of pedals and this video has really given me a great comparison between the old and new versions. For me its the old one all the way. Great crunch, decent depth and solid tone.
What about someting more chunky, on the straight limit between clean sound and overdriven, such as Eric Clapton, with kind of a single coil, strat or tele?
Have you tried the new ones? The main difference is that the old one was a slave tube design. The new version really drives the tube. Over those two versions, I'll take the one that really uses the tube. The new one.
4:00 in and he finally starts engaging the pedal. Even then, it's "I like the gain all the way up?"
He made a really nice, hand-wire tubed amp sound like a store full of Crates set to "stun" on Saturday afternoon trip to Guitar Center.
FYI, "kids," 12 o'clock is NOT (sonically or functionally) a neutral setting unless the device in question has active EQ &/or designed to allow you to cut ot boost from that middle setting.
He showed what he's purchased, not how to use it. Thumbs way down!
I like the new one!! I wonder how it would sound with my HRD. Yeah I like the top! but (sorry TK) I've never been too fond of Kermit green guitars. You must have a very understanding wife!
yeah thats a nice lookin guitar you got there. hows that randall there (the rh200sc head i believe)? i heard that the clean is a lot louder than the distortion.
Hey Tone King. I've been hunting for my first OD/Dist pedal for a while now... and i've narrowed down to the Fulltone OCD, Ibanez Tube King and the MXR Zakk Wylde OD. What do you think would suit me best? Im looking for Brit Crunch/Classic Rock tones. I'll certainly suggest the comparison for your "Largest Pedal Shoutout". Thanks in advance.
wow hit the floyd and listen to the tuning slip. The newer Tube King is more up my alley. Have you dealt with AMT either California or the Platinum Tube? Yes your guitar looks very nice. (I'm going green with gold hardware)
Hey SS - how goes it? So, I've finally caught up w/ you & your Caligula :-) w/ a green guitar! Just picked this up ... strings could probably use some stretching. Hey, cool thing about this Floyd is the arm .. .it's the 'older style' ... just pops in. The newer ones you have to screw in. Hmmm, never played an AMT. What do you know about them? I was eyeing some eBay Soldano / Boogie tube pedals ... but $500 bucks?? That's a lot of beans :-( Talk soon !! Great hearing from you.

The old one sounds with less bass, but with more middle frequencies. And less gain, too.
The newer, with more bass, and a little bit scooped middles, and more distortion. Sounds a little bit mushy, too.
I prefer the newer version, it has some nice extra features, like noise gate and presence switch.
Thanks for your review.

whether you like the old one or the new one, the noise reduction on these pedals is killer, though.
I have used a japanese tk999 with NR for years, to me the Tube Kings are the best tube pedals especially if you play rock or metal
luigiperso 2 years ago
thanks for the video, but you are not accurate about the 'void' control....it's not a new feature, it was standard on the japanese tk999, I have one.
Thanks for the video though, very cool comparison, just get straight to the point sooner, just my two cents, cheers bro

for the most part. The new one was designed to give a solid state a good tube tone, but the old one was meant to be paired with a tube amp.
