This reminds me of many years ago in Tehran with my Iranian wife. On Friday nights there would be classical music on the radio. We would share a glass of wine and this wonderful music.
@aznminr123 this is a formal performance. in part one: begins with " pish- daraamad`e esfahan " (pish-daramad=prelude and esfahan is an awaz in "dastgaahi music") by ostaad NeyDawud... and then "chahar-mezrab"s ( chahar means four in farsi and mezrab= (?) plectrum)
this is the best iranian music i have ever heard in my life this music has so much passion s much rhythmic i fell like i am siting in that room right now and bravoing them after they are don this is so beauty full i rate this a 100 stars
Read about he unbelievable adventures of Dr. Lloyd Miller traveling and performing through the Middle East and beyond by going to the jazzscope website and clicking on Sufi, Saint & Swinger.
There are a few teachers in the US; Mr. Nejad is in the Bay Area, there are some in Los Angeles, on the East Coast and other places. Going to Iran is not the problem, it is the decades it takes to even get started understanding and absorbing the Radif. Dr. Safvat states that first a person must become fully spiritual and empty of ego and worldlyness; then he can channel traditional music. But that is rare and general basics are also needed. Dr. Lloyd Miller
Yes a singer would be great but there are nearly no real singers available. they are mostly very bad pop singers. We have 4 videos with a singing on worldartsdocmiller; three are by top vocalist Parisa and one by her classmate from the 1970s Faranaz. Please check those out. Thanks, Dr. Lloyd Miller

I don't know much about Iranian music, but I think the hammer dulcimer would be more appropriate at a New England contra dance or an Application square dance that here.
@kenp3L Τhe dulcimer is an instrument that is traditional all the way from Persia to western Europe. Psalterium in latin, Psalteri or Santouri in Greek, Santur in Persian...it's part of the common heritage of many countries...

Dr Miller. What a pleasure to discover you by accident from this video and the earlier one where you were discussing Iranian music and playing Santur and Zarb. AMAZING to see an American play our music and know our culture SO MUCH better than us. VERY TOUCHING. Zendeh Baasheen. Dorood bar shoma va Ostad Nejad:-)
Dr. Miller is admired, indeed by many Iranians for dedicating himself to their culture, poetry and music. It's an honor to have you as an adoptive child, Mr. miller.
Thanks for your efforts and your dedications to our poetry and music. God bless you.
Yes we perform in the Bay Area with our music and also our Eastern Arts dance and music group whenever someone invites us. Mr. Nejad is from there, so no problem. Dr. Lloyd Miller
On my other channel: worldartsdocmiller you can find a nice vocal with poetry song texts by Faranaz who was a classmate of Parisa and an old friend from when I studied singing in Iran i n the 1970s. Also there are three wonderful videos by Parisa on that channel.
You are right, this style of ney playing is very typically Iranian even though Turkish and Arab ney styling of some areas is similar, because before and after Islam ,Persian music spread east and west and was very influential all the way to Spain. Dr. Lloyd Miller
Dr Miller really introduced me to the senses of the middle east. I´m forever grateful to him for helping me open this hidden chest of treasures. Coming from a Western classical music background, this music was so hard for me to understand iniially, but Dr. Miller´s genius of combining this with Western Jazz all of sudden made me appreciate this music so much more.
And today, I´m in love this music, although I have never played the Santur or Zarb myself, I hope to do so someday.
Dr. miller we iranian are proud of you.i like your music (you play with lot of sentimentals and it effects my heart deeply) thank u for this pretty music
Salam dustan va mersi bare goftar-e mehrabaniyetun. Are, ney-e ostad Nejad besyar zibast. Ma kushesh mikonim ke radif-e asil-e bastani ra zende negah darim. Thank you for your kind remarks. We try to hold the traditional old radif sacred and to keep it from being adulterated by Westernization and modernization. When cultural roots are chopped away, a culture quickly dies and becomes trodden under foot of cultural imperialism. Dr. Lloyd Miller
