Governor Palin didn't OWN any clothes "fancy" enough for the campaign trail. The Republican party (not US taxpayers) bought those clothes for her use during the campaign, and the total bill includes clothes tried on, rejected, and returned to the stores. Those clothes she is using will be sold after the campaign, and the proceeds donated by the Republican party to charity.
