  • its not cuz of the cell phone, static came off her wool sweater after she sat in the car and then as she was adjusting her sweater before touching the nozzle.

  • Sorry, I guess I should have read the other comments first as this has been said a thousand times already, doh!

  • Cell Phone....seriously? If you look closely you'll see that she gets back into the car then gets back out again without touching any of the metal frame and is carrying a static charge from what looks to be a wool sweater. ZAP! The static discharge is VERY similar to the zap the spark plug uses to ignite the gasoline.

  • why the fuck wuz dis flaged?????0.o

  • Have you seen the MythBusters?????

They proved that only the static electricity from getting in and out of your car will cause explosions.

  • that has nothing to do with her cell phone...cell phones do not cause fires at gas pumps...it always static electricy and open flame

  • the supid bitch took the pump nozzal out of the car and started trying to put it out

  • This video is misleading, it is not a fire caused by cell phone use. It was caused by static electricity, caused by the woman sliding her but in and out of the plastic vehicle and not grounding herself to the vehicle before touching the pump nozzle.

  • Dude, You asked me to post it and I gave it to you man... Jeez. I'm done here.

  • Here you go. Type "reply to rico suave" then click search. Video will be uploaded for 1 day juuust for you.

  • Damn! I don't even remember posting a comment here. How long ago was it? I don't mind people calling me mental. That's exacly why people pay me $300.00 per hour! I am a pro videographer and my clients say: That's so good! Or, man that's sick!

  • that wastnt because of a cell phone it was because she didnt touch any part of the car before she grabbed the pump its a proven fact that if dont touch your car on the way out and you go to put the gas in the static electricity from your body will cause a spark wich will start a fire i think i saw it on daily planet lol

  • looked like her hear was on fire anyway fucken orange morange

  • i think it's static electricity that did this...

  • Definitely static. you can see her playing with her top and it spark from her hand. Was there a mobile phone in that clip?

  • hot red head :D

  • This was caused from her sweater. She 'ruffles' it right before touching the pump. This is why they ask you to stay at the pump. You are more likely to not let go of the handle and therefore, reduce the likelyness of static.

  • that's not from a cell phone that's from getting in and out of the car. They say you should get in and out while filling up b/c of that.

  • where is cell phone ?

  • Static Electricity

  • Look what she did with her sweater before she touches the nozzle!

  • After searching, It's the 4th one down with a picture icon of a lady in a red car.

  • Since we cannot copy and paste any you tube link, Just type "static discharge" and go to 1:15 and listen for yourself what the statistics say: 75% of the cause of fire on the gas stations are women!LOL!!

  • cell phone? No. she is using the car lighter. a ciggaret!

  • wtf does that have to do wit a cell phone. its called static electricity

  • TOASTY!!!

  • she's where a sweater thats what cause the spark from staic

  • She made three major mistakes:

    1. Re-entering her vehicle thus building up static electricity.

    2. Not touching ground like the cars body to discharge herself from the static electricity before touching the nozzle.

    3. Removing the nozzle from the car.

In case of a fire NEVER try to remove the nozzle, because if the pump is still pumping fuel it will literally become a flamethrower!

  • IT HAD TO BE A GIRL! LOL! they don't know shit about this things OR even WORSE, even if someone tell women something, they completely ignore. tsk tsk tsk...

  • Reply to formaset:

I don't think your sexist comment are even remotely funny and I am sure everybody else here agrees, so keep your stupid comments for yourself and go back to whichever cave you came from.

  • Reply to TheindigoViper

You are the ONLY one who disagrees!

  • reply to theindigoviper:

hey shut up, no one cares about you, if you dont like it? go to another page and just shut up.............

  • Actually studies have shown that women are much more likely to cause gas station fires then men simply based on the fact that they are much more likely to get back in the car and also based on the fact that they tend to wear static inducing clothing more then men.

  • !1 By re-entering her vehicle her clothes rubbing across the seat she 're-charged' her body with static.

    #2 Correct

#3 Correct .... if she had shut off the flow of gas and just left the nozzle in the SUV the fire would have just went out

  • Reply to ztscpetor:

what do you mean by "!1"? I already said she builds up static by entering the vehicle.

I also want to add to my other comment that you dont need to enter the vehicle to build up static simply moving while waiting can build up enough static under the right conditions, so remember to always discharge yourself before touching the nozzle or near it.

  • Women want to go back in their vehicle because:

    1. They want to put their credit cards back in their purse

    2. They want to supervise their kids in the vehicle

    3. They want to stay warm

  • @TheIndigoViper lol typo ........ I have spent the last 7 years hauling fuel and i can honestl;y say i have pretty much 'seen it all' ..... i have personally watched a static fire similiar to this ..... but the case was just the pressure release of fumes in the tank the the attendant wearing a nylon jacket ...... he lost his eyebrows ( very lucky )

  • everytime I get out of my car I always get shocked by stuff, hope this never happens to me

  • lol scary experience

  • The others are right. This has nothing to do with her cell phone, it's the getting back into the car. You can see her straightening her clothes a couple of times because they're sticking to her. She also appears to have her sleeves over part of her hands, which probably also contributed to not getting grounded when she got in or out of the car.

If you have static, just touch the door sill or other metal part of the car before you touch the pump and you'll ground out.

  • It's cause she's ginger.

Don't pump while ginger. PROBLEM SOLVED.

  • Also... woman wear certain coats in the winter and if you touch you car haven't you been shocked before more in the winter time??

    That is another reason too!

  • DUH! Yeah pull out a flaming nozzle and then wipe it on the ground like its a burning piece of paper. She should have squeezed the handle. Maybe the gas would have put out the fire. HAHA

  • its not to do with cell phones

its because she had static discharge because she was rubbing on her clothesand most likely because of the car seat too

have you ever got a static shock by getting out of your car then touching sommit metal

you shouldent use the auto pump because the pump handle is earthed so if you tale your hands off then rub your clothes and touch the handle then this is a likely outcome as fumes will be belching out the nosel

where as if its not on auto it wont be

  • Fuck all to do with a phone that was static. Petrol is dodgy stuff and burns like fuck they shouldmake you fill up on earthing mats

  • We had some young dumb dead behind the eyes skank ("Princess Running Mouth")do exactly this at the gas pumps me my husband and newborn were at today.

What right do you have to endanger our lives ? We fully accept your burning carcass at the pump, it's just evolution weeding out the ignorant. just don't take the ones with brains with you.

  • I've been a gas attendant for years. It is NOT the cell phone. That fire was caused by her getting back into the vehicle while it was pumping and failing to discharge herself when she got back out. Modern cell phone do NOT generate enough static to be a fire danger. The real danger is getting in the car while pumping. People are too lazy these days, are they so pathetic that they can't stand outside for 5 min. while their car is filled and be safe?

  • I'm pretty sure Oregon has full serve because the forestry industry went under tough times and as a small solution to reducing unemployment the government made it law to create jobs. I don't think stupid people have any bearing on Oregon having full serve as the majority of the world has self serve and there are only limited incidents when compared to the number of transactions done daily at these stations.

  • Here in New Jersey, it's full serve; it's the only state that has full serve. 99.99% sure.

  • This is why whe have laws agains self service in Oregon. Not to say most people are stupid, but EVERYONE makes stupid mistakes. And it may sound corny, but pump attendants are trained to do things like touch the metal of the pump everytime, before we reach for the nozzle. They are trained on how to put out gasoline fires. They keep the truely stupid people from doing things like smoking right next to the pump. They know a hell of alot more about that pump, and how to shut it down than anyoneelse

  • I think its static build up. :)

  • It is not the cell phone, nor static. I have a different, yet a better but more horrid truth...

It is the woman & the automobil. They just don't mix. The woman & the machine (in clueding voting) just cause general chaos & havoc. We must abolish the 19th amendment.

  • Never get back into your car when you've already got the gas pump pumping gas into the tank without grounding yourself when you get back out. It has nothing to do with the cell phone (the cell phone myth was busted on mythbusters). It was the static produced by her clothing after it rubbed against the fabric seats in the car.

  • I work for an international gas pump manufacturer as a service engineer, this video is used in our health and safety courses to show the effect of static build up generated by the top she was wearing against the seat coverings.

Look as she exits the car, at no point does she earth herself by touching any metalwork until her hand reaches for the nozzle.

This incident has been investigated and roadmonitoroz suggestion is absolutely correct ... No phone was involved at any time.

  • I totally agree with you.. it is totally the shirt and the contact of the car seat.. I hate it everytime I get out of the car. I make it a habit to get shocked. Better shocked than burmed.

  • Oh yeah. I should say the phone generates it too. But more so the wool jumper.

  • I wouldn't say it's from her phone. More likely the static charge generated by that wool jumper when she got in to the car and back out again. You shouldn't enter & exit the vehicle while refueling. If you do at least discharge your static by touching the vehicle on the other side far from the filling point.
