Holy Jebus, i have a chinchilla which to be honest is tiny. The cat see's him as a play thing, chases him and stuff. He's not really scared of her he just runs around. IF you know the first thing about cats then you'll understand. Cats are stimulated by things that run away, if the animals isn't scared of the cat then it isn't seen as a prey item... Yeh sure the cat can hurt its eyes but all they do is hit the chin on the head, as you see. Which is nothing. I've had chinchillas for about 5 years
to all people who claim animals get along as long as they are monitored: Allmost alle living creatures have a slight sense of how to interact socially and "play by the rules" now. How about you let 2 different species alone. Youll be in for a suprise when you get back. A predator stays one no matter how much its tamed and will always try to use the situation to its advantage....
@dipidulor let me add that i have seen many dogs proffesionally trained obeying every command perfectly (no exaggeration) but the moment the owner goes out of sight for more than 10 minutes they would jump on to the couch - like i said. using every situation to thier advantage.
@pacowillrocko its called JUMPING!!! gosh ppl, freakin wow. do u even own one? i do and my chinchilla does the same thing over and over. o and also, chinchillas are very poopy animals, so they poop very often, he probably cleans it every once and a while. just chill
@pacowillrocko Chinchillas poop every few seconds. So even if your Chinchilla is out for 5 seconds, there WILL be tons of poop on your floor. That's how it is. Learn about these things first, before telling someone what to do.
haha anyone who owns chinchillas knows the poop scene, let me guess he was out for what 5minutes when you started recording? I've never met an animal (and I've had a lot) that poop as much as a chin does in one setting. The cat reacts alot like my dogs do: "No your too big to be a safe rodent! Get away!" My dogs refuse to be in the same room as my boys, the punch line: they love to chase rabbits and squirrls. Of course my boys are never out roaming the house without Mom close on their heels. lol
This is cute! My chinchillas get along with my dog, sometimes they even go to greet her at the bottom of their cage and stick their noses together for kisses ^^
Right...keep on attacking me you'll just keep making a fool of yourself! You're doing great without my help at all! I said my BROTHER has a pit, not myself...who can't read now? Besides that...what would reading newspapers do? Just because a few pits come from a bad litter, or people don't treat them right and get attacked you think they should not be trusted? Do you hate black people too? Or does your racism only pertain to dogs?
Also, I never said anything about a pit/rottie and a chin.
so I guess it's safe to get a chinchilla even with my three cats n dog? I'm not planning to introduce the chinchilla to the cats until it gets bigg.... but my dog will be finee. she gets along fine with my gerbil.
lol! That was funny. The cat was scared of the chin. I would be careful though. Just in case things turn for the worst your cat could suddenly get fed up and trry to hurt ur chin. It happened with my dog but I was right next to my chin and was able to grab her before my dog got to her just saying, be careful.
Lol.. funny comments. Do you guys acually think no 2 species of animals can ever live together? I have had LOTS of pets, and have never had any problems with domestic cats. My ginnea pig has lived in close harmony with my 2 cats and dog for over 7 years. And (most) domestic cats would never attack something the size of a chinchilla.. As mentioned before here, dogs and cats don't always fight either do they?
Humans are animals too you know, that way we shouldn't have pets in the first place.
Lol, brave chin :D. Good thing the cat didn't try to kill it. My chin is afraid of anything that moves. I had a pair of young rats near his cage and he barked like crazy.
This is adorable. Your chinchilla somehow looks like a very big cute fluffy mouse, while your kitty is so small and fine and blk/wht. The colors and the sizes make for a lovely video.
And excuse me, but the idiot woman who says shes a vet. I'm in school for vet med right now, currently working at an Animal Hospital and happen to know many vetrinarians who themselves allow their chinchillas to play with their cats, and have yet to have any incident. Its a personal decision, and you dont know the circumstances. Back off.
Wow, some of you peoples ignorance is beyond me. Leave this person alone. If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all. Neither of the animals are being terrorized or nervous, and actually having cats and chinchillas who interact is not of any risk as long as precautions are taken, and neither of the animals are agressive and they are already familiar with each other.
You people need to chill out. The chin isn't "terrorized" or it wouldn't be just casually approaching the cat as it did, also it is quite common for pets of different species to get along. Do none of you have a cat and a dog? Any animals together should be monitored of course. @jeffgooloolie Actually my dear, Pitbulls and Rotties make the best caretakers, they guard their pack. They are guarding while nurturing at the same time. Maybe it is YOU who is out of line here. How dare you take a whole BREED of dog and say that just because a FEW are bred for dog fights that all of them are aggressive! My brother has a Pit and she is the sweetest dog I've ever met...and she's always been sweet to my niece!
@spur58girl : Your a stupid idiot if you think your pit, or rot is safe to have around children, or chinchillas. You deserve to goto jail when your dog attacks, because your soooo stupid. Read the newspapers, if you can read.
@archon808 pits and rotties are safe, its stupid people like you that dont take the time to think that maybe if people TRAINED their dog the right way then they wouldnt turn out to be aggressive...maybe you should use your brain to figure that out
@archon808 i dont have a pit but my uncle does and i know a couple other people that have them and i had one when i was little and they were all the sweetest dogs ive ever met so by all means i will own one eventually and i will let it protect me and my family because i dont stereotype a breed because other people have treated them wrong and caused them to be fighting dogs.
@archon808 and you say im the moron? whens the last time a gun jumped up off the table and went off by itself?? last time i checked it hasnt. its the person BEHIND THE GUN THAT HURTS PEOPLE...do you even have half a brain??
@xoxoilovesosxoxo Gee whens the last time a pitbull attacked a child. You act like it has never happened. Thats what makes you too stupid to have kids.
@archon808 omg honestly you're so stupid that it's honest;y giving me a headache.....GROW UP AND STOP STEREOTYPING AN ENTIRE BREED BECAUSE A FEW DOGS HAD CARELESS, STUPID OWNERS!!!
@jeffgooloolie Haha, how did this turn to dogs? I was actually raised with a pit, most gentle soul I've met, I would sit on him being the dickish little kid I was and poke his eyes and pull his ears, he didn't care, he knew I was just and ignorant kid. And I believe that my point was originally that it's ridiculous to call someone retarded just because you have an opinion thats different. As far as peoples opinions about pits...well its time all are informed that its the owner and not the dog.
Despite the comments, I thought the video was cute. I have 3 cats and a chinchilla and they come into her room all the time. She doesn't mind them at all, and they never hurt her. They are declawed and usually jump onto a desk when she tries to sniff them.
And for anyone who says the room is dirty.. I can tell they have never owned a chin. Chinchillas poop constantly, all over the place lol.. As soon as you sweep it up, more appear to take its place.
As someone who as actually attended veterinary school I completely endorse every criticism of this video. The bacterial considerations mentioned are real. A bite from a cat is almost assured of getting infected and for a chinchilla that will probably be lethal. Not a smart move, and I say that as a member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association.
A typical idiotic response from someone who thinks they know it all. Owning an animal isn't the same as taking care of it, which you obviously are not doing.I have taken care of my own Chinchillas for over 20 years, so I guess I am in a better position to know right from wrong than you are.
Swallow your pride, admit you are wrong, and take advice from those who know better and stop making yourself look such a dumbo!
Nothing about this video is funny OR cute. At any given time, the chin or cat could get spooked and next thing you know you are at an emergency vet with a chinchilla that needs stitches, is missing an eye, is sick, etc. And thats assuming that a person who would let their pet play with its natural predator would take it to the vet. If you had birds would you let your cats play with them too? What about a pet mouse playing with a snake? Sounds about as safe as letting a chin play with a cat.
Nothing about this is funny OR cute. At any second the cat/chin could be spooked and the next thing you know you are at an emergency vet with a chinchilla because it needs stitches, its missing an eye, its got an infection, etc. That's assuming the owner who lets their pet interact with their natural predators would even take the animal to the vet.
Pasteurella in both rabbits and chinchillas is a frustrating thing to treat. There is no cure, you try to manage the infection through a combination of surgical drainage of abscesses and antibiotic therapy; often times very long courses of antibiotics. It is transmissable when animals are in contact with nasal secretions, pus, etc. Pasteurella also naturally resides in cat saliva.
laelya get a life that thing looks fine...you tree huggen freak! you need a loving home... probably not married and have like 20 cats running around your filthy home
I'm 21.. so no, I'm not married, not that it matters. I've been dating someone for three years, if that counts. I have one cat, and my house is very clean.
Believe it or not, not everyone who is compassionate about animals is a crazy [insert animal here] lady.
I couldn't imagine treating my pets this way. There's a reason why I don't allow my cat in my chinchilla room.
Not only are you stressing your pet out, but you're possibly allowing it to come in contact with potentially lethal bacteria from the cat. Stop letting the cat terrorize it.
I want to take your chinchilla away from you and give it an actual LOVING home.
That's pretty harsh. I have a chinchilla and 3 cats and they interact all the time. My chinchilla is like 8 years old and loves to play with any living entity.
I suggest you do some research on the various types of bacteria that are communicable between cats and chinchillas. It's not about letting them play, it's about keeping them safe from possible health risks.
Bartonella/Pasteurella bacteria strains can be lethal to chinchillas if contracted from a cat bite/scratch.
I also have have 3 fish tanks. Would you like to tell me your bullsh*t speculations on how that will kill my other animals? Also, why would I let them interact with each other if the cats were hurting him? Stupidity! I have had a mass variety of pets in my lifetime and none of them have died on me of disease or otherwise. So thanks for the info but I'll be just fine. `Peace, JJ
This is not a funny video this is a stupid video, and your an idiot to allow your pets of different species to play together. The person who posted this video should be ashamed that they are taking such a chance with their pets lives. Niether one of you should be allowed to have animals

@archon808 i dont have a pit but my uncle does and i know a couple other people that have them and i had one when i was little and they were all the sweetest dogs ive ever met so by all means i will own one eventually and i will let it protect me and my family because i dont stereotype a breed because other people have treated them wrong and caused them to be fighting dogs.

xoxoilovesosxoxo 9 months ago
@xoxoilovesosxoxo Gee whens the last time a pitbull attacked a child. You act like it has never happened. Thats what makes you too stupid to have kids.
archon808 9 months ago
@archon808 omg honestly you're so stupid that it's honest;y giving me a headache.....GROW UP AND STOP STEREOTYPING AN ENTIRE BREED BECAUSE A FEW DOGS HAD CARELESS, STUPID OWNERS!!!
xoxoilovesosxoxo 9 months ago
@jeffgooloolie Haha, how did this turn to dogs? I was actually raised with a pit, most gentle soul I've met, I would sit on him being the dickish little kid I was and poke his eyes and pull his ears, he didn't care, he knew I was just and ignorant kid. And I believe that my point was originally that it's ridiculous to call someone retarded just because you have an opinion thats different. As far as peoples opinions about pits...well its time all are informed that its the owner and not the dog.

@militaryqt And my cats dont try to eat my hamster when he gets out of his cage, even though they hate my Doxin they still play with him
jaejaecutie 7 months ago
My chin, liby does the same thing to my cats.
The cats are so curious, but don't try to hurt my chin. Liby always runs and hits her side against the cats, then runs away.

I have a cat too and I sometimes wish that I could have the cat with me when I let the chins out. how do you do it?
nanxi14 3 years ago
Despite the comments, I thought the video was cute. I have 3 cats and a chinchilla and they come into her room all the time. She doesn't mind them at all, and they never hurt her. They are declawed and usually jump onto a desk when she tries to sniff them.
And for anyone who says the room is dirty.. I can tell they have never owned a chin. Chinchillas poop constantly, all over the place lol.. As soon as you sweep it up, more appear to take its place.

This is just sad. You should not be treating a chin like that in any way. Do your research on cats and chins.

This is to "ThisJ22"
I feel sorry for that *mass variety of pets you have had" because frankly you're obviously not responsible enough to own pets.

Sorry for the double post, my first one wasn't showing up at first

@southernchins So by this logic....I've been doin' it wrong!! Never again will I own a cat and a dog together.

Pasteurella also naturally resides in cat saliva.

laelya get a life that thing looks fine...you tree huggen freak! you need a loving home... probably not married and have like 20 cats running around your filthy home
tommyguns76 4 years ago
I'm 21.. so no, I'm not married, not that it matters. I've been dating someone for three years, if that counts. I have one cat, and my house is very clean.
Believe it or not, not everyone who is compassionate about animals is a crazy [insert animal here] lady.
laelya 4 years ago
Are you stupid?
I couldn't imagine treating my pets this way. There's a reason why I don't allow my cat in my chinchilla room.
Not only are you stressing your pet out, but you're possibly allowing it to come in contact with potentially lethal bacteria from the cat. Stop letting the cat terrorize it.
I want to take your chinchilla away from you and give it an actual LOVING home.
laelya 4 years ago
That's pretty harsh. I have a chinchilla and 3 cats and they interact all the time. My chinchilla is like 8 years old and loves to play with any living entity.
ThisJ22 4 years ago
I suggest you do some research on the various types of bacteria that are communicable between cats and chinchillas. It's not about letting them play, it's about keeping them safe from possible health risks.
Bartonella/Pasteurella bacteria strains can be lethal to chinchillas if contracted from a cat bite/scratch.
laelya 4 years ago
