Comparing an Acura/Infiniti/Lexus to a Mercedes Benz its retarded in every way...Mercedes is the Michael Jackson of cars...even when it has faults...its not the case with this 2010 E-class...its still in another league- legacy - luxury - aura of respect...and yes Mercedes exists in the heart of any car lover on the planet...fo like 80% of car lover Acura/Infiniti/Lexus dont exist - they are just fancy kitchen robots:))) PS: And yea then there is BMW but thats TOO amazing to even talk about:))

you say, but hey, let's admit it, a lot of what is being paid for with Mercedes is heritage and brand recognition. I have had 3 of them, everyone such a great car with real character, and it was great fun ordering curbside from a restuarant and when the clerk asked "What will you be driving?" getting to say "a Mercedes." You could hear the pause or the "ohhh..."at the other end of the line, even if the car was 15 years old at the time! It just don't work when you say Lexus or Acura :-)!

There are alot of people who are into the high tech luxury that is offered as well as Super handling all wheel drive. Yes i do agree that mercedes has a strong brand name and image. But its what you get and what comes in mind that counts.

Epidemic, I will agree to disagree, it was jsut a perception on my part, and your point is well taken though, the new generation thinks differently than us older guys :-),,,recently a friend of mine picked up a girlfriend in his Mercedes, and after they drove a bit she asked what kind of car it was. He told her, and she thought for a second and then said "oh, Ford builds these, don't they?" She was thinking of a Mercury! So don't hope to impress with your Benz if you date younger women! :-)

Acura and Lexus are truly lovely cars. Recently I checked out a European Honda accord (similar to Acura in the States). Excellent quality and fabulous front seats. Mercedes E Class will always be truly respected. It is a magnificent car.

The Euro Accord is indeed the USA Acura TSX - a very nice car.  USA has its own larger Accord for those with larger butts :)

How do those Japanese cars "beat" MB in safety? Be specific.

The MB will be a nicer drive no matter what. People will deal with other faults to have something that simply feels good. Those Japanese makes are 95% souless appliances.

Come to Europe, where almost nobody buys a Lexus, and the the Acura/Infiniti (the car brand is spelled with an i) badge does not exist. This is where people also value how a car drives.

You do know that many cars you know as "Acura" have been sold in Europe for years as the Honda cars they truly are.

The automotive scene in Europe is far superior and diverse compared to USA - the Euro buyer is far more demanding and would not tolerate some of the garbage made and sold in the USA. Awesome?

I believe the Euro NCAP standards are more stringent than USA standards. USA standards are backed by insurance companies for damage money rather than safety.

USA cars are seldom safety innovators - MB is THE safety innovator.

TVR is a tiny operation and irrelevant to safety rules, often determined to be exempt, and British, which makes it even more irrelevant. MB certainly sells more cars in a day than TVR in a year.

USA has the most dumbed down car market in the first world.

Mercedes turned to crap when they took over Chrysler. The scars show and That is what truly ruined them especially in reliability. Honda, Toyota, and Nissan have had a far better rep for durability reliability and yes of course fuel consumption. Wheres a hybrid for MB? BMW is at least trying with the alternative fuel route with their Hydrogen powered Vehicle. Stop living in the past.

Please search for the "S400" hybrid which is known. Diesel hybrid cars are also developed.

MB has made trials with hydrogen/fuelcell vehicles and these too will be seen soon.

The W204 and W221 are known to be very solid, and this W212 should follow. MB is entering a new era. W212 is not beautiful, but should be the best E since W124.

MBs have the highest durability - not the same as reliability as they are more complex. Many old MB taxis reach 1M kms quickly.

The Chrysler marriage was a mistake and nightmare, and now in the past. No person with credibility will claim that MB is "ruined".

The rep on the USA market is only worth something there. For the real world, it is worth very little.

Mercedes Benz have now done everything to up the quality of their cars. they went through some awful years; but now reliability has been fixed. They have also spent a fortune investing in green technology for their engines. Many people have been replaced in the company. I have great respect for the present people at the top of the company. This car would definitely get my money.

I basically agree with what you say. Nowadays all the big motoring companies are taking green technology very seriously for a very good and serious reason. I do respect the environment; but if I bought an E Class tomorrow, I would go for a decent normal diesel. The green technology engines have to prove their long term reliability ( well over 10 years) as far as I am concerned.

I know it's a little late for me to butt in, but..

I am no fan of Acura's SH-AWD. I really do not understand what all the praise is about. Yes it provides more grip and traction but the handling still feels too front heavy (drives a lot like a front-wheel drive car). Same goes for Audi's overrated Quattro system. I just hate AWD systems that are front-drive biased.

In Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, and Lexus AWD systems, most of the power goes rearward and it feels much like a RWD car.
