This video is a classic example of ignorance found in many Mac vs. PC videos on youtube.
Kazaa, Limewire, Bittorent, Gnutella etc etc and the countless variations of these are all available for Mac OS. A simple google search will prove that. Music is in standardized file types used by all platforms, Mac WIndows and Linux. Cross platform network sharing is seamless.
Videos like this should be removed since they are 100 percent inaccurate and prove nothing except the ignorance of the creator.
@Lunaratia This issue has been an ongoing debate for years now. The arrogant Macintosh users who poke fun at Windows can probably take some fun poked back at them.
Guess what, People use Itunes on their P.C. to : O if you wanna burn a mac, choose a topic that only pertains to macs :P and Macs are amazing if you are into Music, Art/Photography, and Movie making. If you are a gamer Yes, P.C. is your better option
SoundForge? Come on, you already have SoundBooth and SoundTrack Pro which are FAR better.
Vegas? Quite good, yes, but not at the level at the best video editing program, Final Cut Studio. Not even nearly.
LOL, even if Adobe CS4 is 64 bit, it's programs still crash and freeze more often under Windows. It's always been so. That's a reason why designers use Macs.
So really, Windows has nothing to offer more. The best software are either mac only or run better under Mac OS X
interesting you mention the Adobe CS, some of its programs have centain important features (like capturing in premier) that lag behind compared to the windows version. its a shame for interoperability.
Im Sure that you would find that, (not all) but a majority of people who make their living in photoediting, and movie making will tell you they Like the Mac More
i edit photos and videos on my pc just fine... it can do everything i want and more. as for audio, thats the main thing i use my pc for.. i create midi files and print them out for my band, we learn them, record them, and i edit them... theres not a single thing as of yet that i tried to do on my pc that i could not do. as for mac... ill just throw the whole games situation at them.. gg
thankfully I dont game much :P haha and I have boot camp... so I can game when I want.. But Hey! if it works for you, then good. My Mac works For Me. Have a good one : P
PC is not so crashy as many ppl thinks, indeed they had improved within time, yeah windows 98 was such a nightmare sometimes, but iv never got a single problem with XP, havent tried Vista (i dont feel like) but i suppose should b more stable, with all da hardware it requieres it better b.
seriously, all of the mac commercials talk about how much greater a mac is than a pc but all the windows commercials just talk about how many people have a pc. whazzap with that?
why would you put two different video cards together? that makes no sense! apple makes no sense with the way the do everything. yes there is no blue screen of death. but there is beachball. if a program fails you have to reboot unlike windows. can osX even run crysis?!?! i think not.
no it wasnt...it was the first good personal computer though. There were loads of personal computers before the Apple 1. Such as the commodore 64. But non of them used a GUI or mouse. Lol
if it was the same, or better, you'd think that more people would use it. Fyi, saying Avid would have been a better response, Premiere can't hold a candle to Final Cut. Also, the editing in this video looks like it was done in Movie Maker. It's shit, it needs color correction.
well duh movie maker sucks. fcp takes up 49% of prefessional video editing. avid takes up 38%, and adobe pro takes the rest kicking out the smaller ones. what does this proove? two things, one, that there's a lot more choices for pc software and that people are sheep and flock to the biggest bullshitting company in the world, apple
More choices for the PC? Uh.... Avid, FCP and Premiere all run on the Mac. Only Avid and Premiere run on the PC of the three. Also, Avid only has 23% market-share. Premiere is almost used nowhere professionally (I've only met one person who's ever used it professionally).
Now, enlighten me, how is Apple a bullshitting company when Microsoft promises to fix their OS and kernel but fail to every time.
wow, well, let me see here, microsoft fixed their os with SP1 and completely rehauled the kernel, right now in vista I am using 0%-3% of my cpu, don't believe me? i'll send you a link to my photobucket where i took a screen shot for you. as for apple bullshitting, well let's see, macs don't crash(kernel panic), the macbook air is the thinnest laptop in the world when sony made a laptop thinner than the macbook air 5 years ago called the sony vaio X505!
SP1 didn't re-haul the kernel. It's still the Windows NT kernel (which is flawed to the core). I'm not insulting Vista's performance issues. Windows 7 fixes them. What I am insulting is the security and vulnerabilities of the OS (I'm a Linux guy).
Who said Mac's don't crash? Maybe a fanboy, but not Apple. Crashing is inevitable in any OS. As for the thinnest notebook, I believe Apple means the thinnest modern notebook. THat Sony notebook was on crap hardware.
It still needs a shit ton of RAM to function. Windows 7 needs less. THerefore apparently Windows 7 has better kernel improvements. Though is still lacks security enhancements.
1. do not talk about windows 7, it's not complete yet so you can't. 2. i'm only using a half gb of ram right now with vista ultimate and i have 4gbs of ram, 3 1/2 are not being used. yea, vista totally needs a lot of ram after SP1
1. yea bullshit since i'm not even using 1 gb of ram.
2. cause i pirate my stuff and have little money means i'm a lowly piece of shit. right, it's called being smart and not wasting money, so that would make you the stupid one here
1) The only way that is possible is if you close everything in Vista aside from around 1 window. Start having multiple windows open and it will decrease rapidly (the fault with Vista is that it reads windows as if they're open, even if they're minimized. Windows 7 doesn't).
2) If you don't have the money, don't pirate it at all. I'm sure you're not desperate to buy Avid, so don't buy it. Hell, I need Final Cut Pro but can't afford it so I'm sticking with my copy of Final Cut Express.
uh, no, as i've said you obviously have a shit computer and haven't used vista since before SP1. idiot. I have 17 windows open at the moment and i'm still below 1gb of ram
that would be called being stupid, if you can get something for free do it. pirating is free gain and I will use it as much as I want no matter what you pussies say about it
I pirate stuff to, whats the point of buying it if i can pirate? It's just usseless if u buy some sort of an music program or something else shitty. Oh, and if its 'pirating' why cant do anyone something about it, i wonder..
avid and adobe pro are built for pc and work the best on pc, if you make the bootcamp argument that doesn't matter as the hardware is not the greatest in a mac and vista obviously works better on a real pc
Um..... ignorant? Avid has the same crash rate as it does on a Mac, on a PC. It's shit on both platforms. As for Premiere.... again, ignorant. Adobe are expects at Mac programming. Are you saying they don't know how to do a proper Mac port? In any event, on Windows you can only hit around knowing 30% of the market for professional video editing apps while as in OS X you can hit 80% of the market. Thus you're more profitable for using a Mac.
avid only crashes if your computer sucks. Of course you aren't going to know everything for app wise on pc, there's so much more on pc! that does not make mac efficient, that makes it worse because you are very limated on what you can do. also, no, vista runs better on pc, especially a custom in which a custom running vista will smash any linux pc and mac hands down.
Hm... 2.66 GHz Quad Xeon, 4 GB of RAM sucks? Or what about news stations with octo-core PCs using 16 GB of RAM? I know people who work at news stations that work on those kinds of systems and they have trouble with it crashing. Many of them are beginning to transition over to Final Cut because of it (I've seen Avid crash from merely choosing the 1080i preset).
As for PCI, many PCI cards will work in a Mac Pro. In the Pro. video world, most support the mac.
haha, what a joke, yea no. very few cards work for leopard, leopard only allows up to the 1000 series for firmware. nothing works in a mac.
as for avid crashing, i even torrented it and it runs fine. never had one crash, so you are bsing big time, especially since you don't know anyone that works for a news station
Oh, so you pirated it? You're not a professional, you have no right to speak about it. Professionals will buy their apps, not pirate them you lowly piece of shit.
As for Bootcamp.... everyone who has ever used it will tell you that Windows seems to run snappier on it. Out of every PC I've owned, Windows has never felt as good as it does inside of Bootcamp. Perhaps it's because Mac's are built like servers where as PCs are built like desktops.
if you want to see a true pc watch my why mac sucks video, also, watch my cube desktop, there's no reason to run linux, and oh yes, virus's mean jack crap, because it's so hard to download avast for free. you go through more work in linux to get one program to work when it should just work to begin with
Cube desktop? Okay, eye candy. That's really important isn't it? I'm sure if a Mac user really wanted it, they could program an app to do that. But it's beyond pointless so why?
Oh, and yes there is a reason to run Linux. It's the most secure OS. No virus', hard as hell to get hacked and fully customizable. Those three reason's make it superior to Windows. We don't need an anti-virus app to waste computer resources in the background, we're just safe.
yea, eye candy? are you retarded? it's extremely useful and it basically does the same thing as spaces and linux does, that was my point.
yes because you know avast uses a whole 8 gbs of ram and runs up your cpu usage. i am completely secure and i have no need to worry about virus's. also, you know why there's no virus's on linux? not enough people use it and everyone feels bad enough for linux users
By "extremely useful" do you mean slower and less productive? Because that's all it is. Going into full spaces mode is quicker. As for avast, just as an fyi, 1 anti-virus won't catch everything. Virus' can be made to specifically go around that one anti-virus. I've seen it done before.
As for the no cirus' comment. You sire, are a dumbass. WHen OS 8 and 9 had only 3% of the market, they had thousands of virus', but OS X doesn't with 9% of the market. Why is that? The Unix base dipshit.
you try to tear down everything saying it's slow when it's obvious you haven't used it either ever or in ages. Cube desktop is NOT slow and neither is vista. get your head out of your ass where sp1 obviously isn't
avast has a high detection rate, it doesn't kill anything, it detects it and cancels the application effectively denying it just as the unix base does.
I know that OS X isn't the most secure. Ubuntu Linux is currently the most secure OS. As for the two minute hack, if you actually read up on it you'd know that he just took OS X with stock configuration. If you enabled the security protocols (a firewall, switching your main account to a standard account, etc) then OS X would be extremely hard to hack.
Still, even so, VIrus and even trojans are no real threat where as they are huge threats in Windows.
I dunno man... I've never gotten a virus on my computer. I feel the same way about viruses as I do about Avian Flu. People keep saying it's a big risk, but it hasn't effected me personally.
The iPhone and the iPod are locked into iTunes - creating an iTunes store monopoly for these devices. Not only that, Apple has refused to license its FairPlay DRM system to any other company, preventing users from listening to DRM protected music bought from sources other than the iTunes Store. By not allowing other companies or individuals to interoperate with its DRM system, Apple prevents competition and divides the market. iTunes does, however, play non-DRM protected music.
LOL. Here you are again spouting the same bullshit. Your statement holds no water...here is why
Since iPods and iPhones can play any MP3 or any movie file out there, it is obviously not locked into iTunes as you claim. There are plenty of people that use iPods and iPhones that NEVER buy anything from iTunes.
Who cares about the DRM? iTunes has the largest database available for DRM music. There is basically nothing that you can find anywhere that isnt available on iTunes. $1 a pop. Cheap
Argue it out with Wikipedia and all it's 32 references from different sites with the same claims.
I know people don't buy stuff from iTunes, which makes it even more annoying to use seeing as you have to "import" everything befote you can use it, you can't even play a list of songs at a time - you can't even skin iTunes.
$1 in Ameirca, they also push the price here in the UK to 70p may I add the British Pound is worth 2 times the Dollar, so we pay more. I have over 5000 songs, thats not cheap.
Mac OS X isn't even compatible with the most popular distributed MP3 Player on the internet - namely Winamp, the most customizeable and easy to use Media Player on the web, and it's not even compatible with Mac OS X. Unless you're willing to boot up Windows just so you can listen use it? Don't forget you must have owned the CD in the first place to use Windows.
"But you don't need it when it's installed!"
Who cares? The point is you spent money on it, just so you can use Windows-Only software.
Almost every single media program out there plays MP3s, including many for Mac OS. Do you really think that Winamp is the only player that plays MP3s? LOL
Let me explain this to you in simple language so maybe you can comprehend it.
Nobody needs Winamp for MP3s. However if you wanted to run Winamp in Mac OS X, all you have to do is use Crossover. Crossover provides the binaries and APIs that Windows apps look for. Crossover can run Windows apps right on the Leopard desktop without Windows
I love the way you put words in my mouth, I said Winamp was the most popular, for skinning and plugins, which iTunes, and a lot of other softwares do not. I did NOT say it was the only mp3 Player.
I love the way you forget to mention the fact you have to pay for Crossover you fucking retard. £25.99 cheapest, and £44.99 for the full version. Let me see, that's roughly $80.
its $70 but who cares? its a one time purchase. virtualization platforms made for Linux and Windows to run other OSes and applications from other OSes, such as VMware Server and VMware Workstation for Windows cost the same if not more. only the broke dicks with a bum attitude of "have to get everything for free" would care. you sound like one of them
Microsoft used to license PlayForSure to 3rd party MP3 players. That model failed and they readily abandoned their partners when it was decided Apple's iTunes model was better. Now they have Zune. Based on results, what reason does Apple have to license FairPlay? To give competitors an unique advantage they've created?
Even with DRM, fortunately anyone can workaround their restrictions. Actually Apple rather abandon DRM. It's the content providers who wants it.
Licensing FairPlay to other companies would be self explanitory - it would be Fair Play.
Apple needs competetition to grow, if no one competed, they would never make any effort to be any better than their rivals.
That's why when a competitor such as Microsoft is too far out of their reach to kick off the market, instead of trying to beat them, they simply just pick holes in the flaws of Windows.
If Windows was that bad, 87% of people world wide would not use XP, it's simple as that.
Apple is a hardware company, moron. Micro$oft is a software company. Micro$oft makes their money by trying to get their software onto every computer. Apple makes their money by selling as many computers as possible.
Apple also makes software to accompany their hardware, which is why Mac OS exists. But still ultimately Apple is a computer manufacturer. They share the market with other companies such as Dell, HP, etc, hence the 13%
If Apple released their OS to PCs Micro$oft would die
Microsoft isn't going out of business anytime soon, you'll be lucky, Bill Gates is worth more than the whole Apple company, because more people like his software than Steve Jobs hardware crap. Apple is worth $24bn, Bill is worth $58bn, thats two times more and $4 billion on top of that, so he is as rich as Apple Inc and Steve Jobs combined.
If OS X was released for PC's, they would loose money, no one would want to limit their PC's by emulating obselete software such as OS X.
XP was released in 2001, so it's not even 8 years old.
Secondly, I think you will fail to find ONE task that OS X can do that XP CANNOT.
There is simply no explaination because XP can do anything Mac can do, simple as that. Vista has trouble doing it but it can perform all tasks as well (but becuase Microsoft tried to make it easier they've made too many windows and dialog boxes which actually slows the user down)
At least grow up and type Microsoft correctly, or should I start saying @ppl3?
Can you tell me why Apple are not making as many sales as Microsoft, despite the fact they have an agressive marketing campaign against their rival, they have millions of simplicity marketing schemes, they sell hundreds of gadgets world wide that are increasingly popular, they sell an apparently "cutting edge" OS with a Mac PC in many forms, such as iBook, Mac Mini, iMac, MacBook, MacBook Air, etc....
Microsoft Sell - Windows XP / Vista - Microsoft Office Programs.
you are still missing the point. Micro$oft sells software Apple sells hardware. Its comparing apples to oranges. There isnt a single computer or hardware manufacturer out there whose hardware sales top Micro$ofts software sales
Apple has more market value than any other PC manufacturer. Type this into Google
"Apple quadruple Dell"
By your statement of comparing software sales to hardware sales, then you would be saying that more people value Bill's software crap than any PCs manufacturers hardware crap. that makes no valid point whatsoever
When you say value, I fucking well hope you don't mean value for money or that's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard, even Mac Fanboys complain about the over-pricing of Mac. The same spec Mac's can cost up to £900 more. It's a waste. Remember that's almost $1,700
Ok, I'll take this example from a company who Over-Charges for their hardware - namely Alienware: Intel Core Duo 3.0GHz Processor 512MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX Graphics Dual Channel 2.0GB SDRAM at 1066MHz NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard 250GB Hard Disk 3GB/s 7200RPM Integrated 7.1 High-Definition Audio Dual High Performance Gigabit Ethernet Cards Total Cost? £1,063.38 That's exactly $1,685.67 You forget to mention Dell put crap on your PC and charge you extra for it, you should know that
That's over 100% more than the PC from Alienware cost, and the Alienware computer I had customized to suit a high performance gamers needs - and such a computer would also handle any high end applications.
There is no competition, that Mac is not even as powerful, and it costs over £1,000 more.
That's disgusting - that explains why Apple make so much profit, not on the sales, but on the price of their computers. It's ridiculous. The computer did not even include a monitor.
That is the majority of the price. Trying to compare an 8 core Xeon workstation to a Core2 Duo desktop gaming rig is RIDICULOUS!!
It is even more ridiculous than trying to compare Micro$oft's sofware sales to Apple hardware sales. You have a bad habit of trying to compare things from totally different categories!
I dont know where you get your specs from. The Mac Pro base configuration has 2GB of ram, 320GB. They dont even offer the ATI x1900xt!
Yes it does offer the ATI X1900xt because it's on Google shopping lol. Just literally type it in on Google and all the results are ridiculously expensive, even the single processor Mac's are fucking shit loads of money
You are the fool, supplying me with Specs from Dell, Dell are fucking shit, I can build a PC myself more powerful than any Dell peice of shite.
Mac, no matter what type it is, is just a crappy, un-upgradable, bespoke peice of wank.
The keyboards didn't even use to have a DELETE button, they used to only supply the backspace key, that only changed after Apple release the "mighty" mouse and keyboard, which are both still crappy, a mouse with one button, and the right click sense is often wrong.
APPLE, which is a bespoke pile of shit (not that I expect someone of your diminished knowledge to know what the fuck that means), is not compareable to DELL, You're trying to compare Apple, a shit company, to Dell, even shitter! If I were to call you a fucked up dumbass that would be the understatement of the year.
Since you think you are so smart, arrogant fool, give me genuiune verifiable specs and prices directly from ANY PC manufacturer that has the EXACT same specs or BETTER for the same price on 8 core Xeon workstations
I think there is no evidence in actual practice that licensing FairPlay would work. Reality has been billions of songs were downloaded and it's not slowing down. There's no compelling reason to license it based on Apple's profit model - selling hw by integrating with good sw and content. Also, existing licensing of DRM has not demonstrated any scale of success near FairPlay. Why do it? Apple has competition: Microsoft, Dell, HP, Sony, Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Lenovo, Adobe, Avid, Real, etc.
You're the second person I've seen saying Microsoft's OS market share has dipped below 90%. I still believe them to be above 90%. Your own statement about market share already suggested that Apple is doing more than just picking holes at Windows. They work towards making their products standing out with innovative engineering. Consumers are finding value in the Mac and buying them. This year is likely to see 10 million Macs sold.
It hasn't dipped below 90%, sorry to say XP has 86.72 percent share by itself as of 2008. Vista is the second most popular platform at 3.20 percent, Mac OS X is used at 2.78 percent as of august 2008. The rest is used up by windows servers, 2000, 98 etc, and very little is open source OS's
If I heard the recent quarterly earnings correctly, 25% is in the narrower category of consumer PCs in the US - which is a subset of the US PC market. In that regard, 10% is the higher spectrum estimates for Apple's overall market share in the US. The world wide market for Macs is still around 3%. You can still download the quarterly earnings report from iTunes as a podcast. Search 'earnings'.
"Microsoft's Windows dominates the operating system market with a global usage share of 96.72 percent. In August 2008 the total global usage share of Microsoft's Windows was 96.97 percent. Microsoft's Windows Vista has a global usage of 3.23%. The leading operating system on the web is still Microsoft's Windows XP with a global usage share of 87.36 percent. The global usage share of Apple's Macintosh is 2.70% and the global usage share of Linux is 0.36%."
There's another interesting aspect to this. Even with the miniscule OS market share, Apple's has made about half the net profit of Microsoft this past quarter. Granted half of that is from iPod+iPhone. iPhone represented 1% of cell phone market. So with a 3% & 1% market share, they are able make $2.44 billion profit in a quarter. iPods contributed about 11% to that profit so its dominance is not so relevant. IOW Macs made about $1 billion profit with 3%.
Yes, Crappy opertating system!!!! And Yes I have used Vista, infact, I have an 8 month old Asus Laptop running Vista home Premium. It has failed to boot 2 times because of major software defects, and has wiped my harddriver clean both of those times.. I have given up on it. I haven't turned it on months... stupid worthless piece of junk. I find my mac a breeze to use, lovely machine. Look, you stick to you PC's and I'll stick with my Mac!
Nah. If you buy a song on Zune market place, you'd have to spend $5 for 400 MS points. Then apply 79 points to get a song. So if you'd want to buy 6 songs, instead of spending $6, you'd have to spend $10 to get enough points to cover the 6th song and leave the unspent points as credit. IOW - MS wants to keep your unspent money for you. Almost like the Feds withholding more than you owe in income tax. How nice.
MP3s works just as well on iPods. Apple's FairPlay DRM only applies to DRM protected songs and videos sold on iTunes. You can buy MP3s from Amazon and use on iPods. No Apple control there. I still say the inconvenience of their points system where MS always holds some of your money in the form of points is akin to Feds withholding tax money for you. Money in MS' pockets first I will not abide. Doesn't that seem like forcing you to spend more money than actually needed?
I wasn't talking about MP3's; I was talking about WMA files, which the iPod refuses to support because it's a Microsoft product. My Creative-brand music player can play any of these file types, and no need to use any kind of points system or iTunes. No nonsense.
the fact that its in a proprietary format that you cant legally put on some other non-apple device, so basically you have to pay a buck and then youre not even free to listen to it (unless youve already paid $200 or whatever for the player they sell, or at a minimum use their memory hog itunes program)
for a buck

How come every f'ing video i watch about either Mac or Pc turns into a bloody debate!!
If you want a mac- get one
If you want a Pc- get one (not that you probably wont have one already)
People buy both systems so i dont understand why the people who have Pc's make remarks about Macs and Vice Versa.
If you think your platform is the best then why bother trying to justify it to the opposition GOSH

emm.. no
windows has equal or better software than mac for all those things
eg:
Soundforge and Vegas are windows only.
the Adobe Creative Suite was 64 bit ready on the windows version first.
etc, etc, etc.
erp2k 2 years ago
Bullshit.
The best software are either mac only or run better under Mac OS X
emperordarius 2 years ago
interesting you mention the Adobe CS, some of its programs have centain important features (like capturing in premier) that lag behind compared to the windows version. its a shame for interoperability.

The quality of PC videos shows on this video. Did you even attempt color correction?
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
or maybe it was his skill. adobe premier pro is an arguably better program than fcp so no, editing is not bad on a pc, it's the same and better
Jarek4 3 years ago
if it was the same, or better, you'd think that more people would use it. Fyi, saying Avid would have been a better response, Premiere can't hold a candle to Final Cut. Also, the editing in this video looks like it was done in Movie Maker. It's shit, it needs color correction.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
well duh movie maker sucks. fcp takes up 49% of prefessional video editing. avid takes up 38%, and adobe pro takes the rest kicking out the smaller ones. what does this proove? two things, one, that there's a lot more choices for pc software and that people are sheep and flock to the biggest bullshitting company in the world, apple
Jarek4 3 years ago
More choices for the PC? Uh.... Avid, FCP and Premiere all run on the Mac. Only Avid and Premiere run on the PC of the three. Also, Avid only has 23% market-share. Premiere is almost used nowhere professionally (I've only met one person who's ever used it professionally).
Now, enlighten me, how is Apple a bullshitting company when Microsoft promises to fix their OS and kernel but fail to every time.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
wow, well, let me see here, microsoft fixed their os with SP1 and completely rehauled the kernel, right now in vista I am using 0%-3% of my cpu, don't believe me? i'll send you a link to my photobucket where i took a screen shot for you. as for apple bullshitting, well let's see, macs don't crash(kernel panic), the macbook air is the thinnest laptop in the world when sony made a laptop thinner than the macbook air 5 years ago called the sony vaio X505!
Jarek4 3 years ago
SP1 didn't re-haul the kernel. It's still the Windows NT kernel (which is flawed to the core). I'm not insulting Vista's performance issues. Windows 7 fixes them. What I am insulting is the security and vulnerabilities of the OS (I'm a Linux guy).
Who said Mac's don't crash? Maybe a fanboy, but not Apple. Crashing is inevitable in any OS. As for the thinnest notebook, I believe Apple means the thinnest modern notebook. THat Sony notebook was on crap hardware.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
uh, yes apple did! they say in their mac vs pc commercials all the time macs don't crash.
the vaio being crap? no fuck it's 5 years old! it uses a pentium!
SP1 COMPLETELY rehauled the kernel, google it, because it lowered cpu usage and completely redirected what is connected to what.
Jarek4 3 years ago
It still needs a shit ton of RAM to function. Windows 7 needs less. THerefore apparently Windows 7 has better kernel improvements. Though is still lacks security enhancements.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
1. do not talk about windows 7, it's not complete yet so you can't. 2. i'm only using a half gb of ram right now with vista ultimate and i have 4gbs of ram, 3 1/2 are not being used. yea, vista totally needs a lot of ram after SP1
Jarek4 3 years ago
1) Microsoft has said it only needs 1 GB of RAM. Vista needs 2 Gb of RAM, even SP1, so stfu. 2) Bullshit.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
1. yea bullshit since i'm not even using 1 gb of ram.
2. cause i pirate my stuff and have little money means i'm a lowly piece of shit. right, it's called being smart and not wasting money, so that would make you the stupid one here
Jarek4 3 years ago
1) The only way that is possible is if you close everything in Vista aside from around 1 window. Start having multiple windows open and it will decrease rapidly (the fault with Vista is that it reads windows as if they're open, even if they're minimized. Windows 7 doesn't).
2) If you don't have the money, don't pirate it at all. I'm sure you're not desperate to buy Avid, so don't buy it. Hell, I need Final Cut Pro but can't afford it so I'm sticking with my copy of Final Cut Express.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
uh, no, as i've said you obviously have a shit computer and haven't used vista since before SP1. idiot. I have 17 windows open at the moment and i'm still below 1gb of ram
that would be called being stupid, if you can get something for free do it. pirating is free gain and I will use it as much as I want no matter what you pussies say about it
Jarek4 3 years ago
I pirate stuff to, whats the point of buying it if i can pirate? It's just usseless if u buy some sort of an music program or something else shitty. Oh, and if its 'pirating' why cant do anyone something about it, i wonder..

liampwnzorasaurus 3 years ago
avid and adobe pro are built for pc and work the best on pc, if you make the bootcamp argument that doesn't matter as the hardware is not the greatest in a mac and vista obviously works better on a real pc
Jarek4 3 years ago
Um.....
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
avid only crashes if your computer sucks. Of course you aren't going to know everything for app wise on pc, there's so much more on pc! that does not make mac efficient, that makes it worse because you are very limated on what you can do. also, no, vista runs better on pc, especially a custom in which a custom running vista will smash any linux pc and mac hands down.
Jarek4 3 years ago
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
haha, what a joke, yea no. very few cards work for leopard, leopard only allows up to the 1000 series for firmware. nothing works in a mac.
as for avid crashing, i even torrented it and it runs fine. never had one crash, so you are bsing big time, especially since you don't know anyone that works for a news station
Jarek4 3 years ago
Oh, so you pirated it? You're not a professional, you have no right to speak about it. Professionals will buy their apps, not pirate them you lowly piece of shit.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
As for Bootcamp.... everyone who has ever used it will tell you that Windows seems to run snappier on it. Out of every PC I've owned, Windows has never felt as good as it does inside of Bootcamp. Perhaps it's because Mac's are built like servers where as PCs are built like desktops.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
if you want to see a true pc watch my why mac sucks video, also, watch my cube desktop, there's no reason to run linux, and oh yes, virus's mean jack crap, because it's so hard to download avast for free. you go through more work in linux to get one program to work when it should just work to begin with
Jarek4 3 years ago
Cube desktop? Okay, eye candy. That's really important isn't it? I'm sure if a Mac user really wanted it, they could program an app to do that. But it's beyond pointless so why?
Oh, and yes there is a reason to run Linux. It's the most secure OS. No virus', hard as hell to get hacked and fully customizable. Those three reason's make it superior to Windows. We don't need an anti-virus app to waste computer resources in the background, we're just safe.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
yea, eye candy? are you retarded? it's extremely useful and it basically does the same thing as spaces and linux does, that was my point.
yes because you know avast uses a whole 8 gbs of ram and runs up your cpu usage. i am completely secure and i have no need to worry about virus's. also, you know why there's no virus's on linux? not enough people use it and everyone feels bad enough for linux users
Jarek4 3 years ago
By "extremely useful" do you mean slower and less productive? Because that's all it is. Going into full spaces mode is quicker. As for avast, just as an fyi, 1 anti-virus won't catch everything. Virus' can be made to specifically go around that one anti-virus. I've seen it done before.
As for the no cirus' comment. You sire, are a dumbass. WHen OS 8 and 9 had only 3% of the market, they had thousands of virus', but OS X doesn't with 9% of the market. Why is that? The Unix base dipshit.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
you try to tear down everything saying it's slow when it's obvious you haven't used it either ever or in ages. Cube desktop is NOT slow and neither is vista. get your head out of your ass where sp1 obviously isn't
avast has a high detection rate, it doesn't kill anything, it detects it and cancels the application effectively denying it just as the unix base does.
Jarek4 3 years ago
Ahem !
Pre-OS X, the grand total of viruses for OS 9 was 56.
Other than that, you are correct.
Jkirk3279 3 years ago
Take a look again. It was in the thousands. OS 9 and before weren't that secure.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
and os x isn't as secure as you think either.. a guy hacked into a mac in 2 minutes. google it
eddie2042 2 years ago
I know that OS X isn't the most secure. Ubuntu Linux is currently the most secure OS. As for the two minute hack, if you actually read up on it you'd know that he just took OS X with stock configuration. If you enabled the security protocols (a firewall, switching your main account to a standard account, etc) then OS X would be extremely hard to hack.
Still, even so, VIrus and even trojans are no real threat where as they are huge threats in Windows.
MacintechStudios 2 years ago
quite frankly i've never gotten anything on my pc. i'm a happy camper! =D
eddie2042 2 years ago
I dunno man... I've never gotten a virus on my computer. I feel the same way about viruses as I do about Avian Flu. People keep saying it's a big risk, but it hasn't effected me personally.
DoctorExplosion 2 years ago
Actually, he spent weeks setting up a hacked website to exploit a Safari weakness he'd found.
Once the contest started, he was picked to be first. All he had to do was ask the guy at the Mac to type in the URL, and collect his prize.
Once told where the flaw was, Apple corrected it.
Jkirk3279 2 years ago
No, you're thinking of DOS/Windows.
OS 9 had only dozens of viruses. If you count ALL malware, Trojans, the occasional worm, it still comes up way short of a hundred.
OS 9 was fairly secure, although not as good as OS X. It didn't have password verification, for example.
But it completely lacked a command line. So there was no easy way to let a virus take over the computer.
And by the end of OS 9, most of those viruses were so old they didn't work anymore.

Thank's Apple.
Ethanace 3 years ago
$1 a pop. Cheap
idiothater1 3 years ago
Argue it out with Wikipedia and all it's 32 references from different sites with the same claims.
I know people don't buy stuff from iTunes, which makes it even more annoying to use seeing as you have to "import" everything befote you can use it, you can't even play a list of songs at a time - you can't even skin iTunes.
$1 in Ameirca, they also push the price here in the UK to 70p may I add the British Pound is worth 2 times the Dollar, so we pay more. I have over 5000 songs, thats not cheap.
Ethanace 3 years ago
Mac OS X isn't even compatible with the most popular distributed MP3 Player on the internet - namely Winamp, the most customizeable and easy to use Media Player on the web, and it's not even compatible with Mac OS X. Unless you're willing to boot up Windows just so you can listen use it? Don't forget you must have owned the CD in the first place to use Windows.
"But you don't need it when it's installed!"
Who cares? The point is you spent money on it, just so you can use Windows-Only software.
Ethanace 3 years ago
Almost every single media program out there plays MP3s, including many for Mac OS. Do you really think that Winamp is the only player that plays MP3s? LOL
Let me explain this to you in simple language so maybe you can comprehend it.
Nobody needs Winamp for MP3s. However if you wanted to run Winamp in Mac OS X, all you have to do is use Crossover. Crossover provides the binaries and APIs that Windows apps look for. Crossover can run Windows apps right on the Leopard desktop without Windows
idiothater1 3 years ago
I love the way you put words in my mouth, I said Winamp was the most popular, for skinning and plugins, which iTunes, and a lot of other softwares do not. I did NOT say it was the only mp3 Player.
I love the way you forget to mention the fact you have to pay for Crossover you fucking retard. £25.99 cheapest, and £44.99 for the full version. Let me see, that's roughly $80.
Ethanace 3 years ago
its $70 but who cares? its a one time purchase. virtualization platforms made for Linux and Windows to run other OSes and applications from other OSes, such as VMware Server and VMware Workstation for Windows cost the same if not more. only the broke dicks with a bum attitude of "have to get everything for free" would care. you sound like one of them
idiothater1 3 years ago
Microsoft used to license PlayForSure to 3rd party MP3 players. That model failed and they readily abandoned their partners when it was decided Apple's iTunes model was better. Now they have Zune. Based on results, what reason does Apple have to license FairPlay? To give competitors an unique advantage they've created?
Even with DRM, fortunately anyone can workaround their restrictions. Actually Apple rather abandon DRM. It's the content providers who wants it.
ribaldi 3 years ago
Licensing FairPlay to other companies would be self explanitory - it would be Fair Play.
Apple needs competetition to grow, if no one competed, they would never make any effort to be any better than their rivals.
That's why when a competitor such as Microsoft is too far out of their reach to kick off the market, instead of trying to beat them, they simply just pick holes in the flaws of Windows.
If Windows was that bad, 87% of people world wide would not use XP, it's simple as that.
Ethanace 3 years ago
Apple is a hardware company, moron. Micro$oft is a software company. Micro$oft makes their money by trying to get their software onto every computer. Apple makes their money by selling as many computers as possible.
Apple also makes software to accompany their hardware, which is why Mac OS exists. But still ultimately Apple is a computer manufacturer. They share the market with other companies such as Dell, HP, etc, hence the 13%
If Apple released their OS to PCs Micro$oft would die
idiothater1 3 years ago
Microsoft isn't going out of business anytime soon, you'll be lucky, Bill Gates is worth more than the whole Apple company, because more people like his software than Steve Jobs hardware crap. Apple is worth $24bn, Bill is worth $58bn, thats two times more and $4 billion on top of that, so he is as rich as Apple Inc and Steve Jobs combined.
If OS X was released for PC's, they would loose money, no one would want to limit their PC's by emulating obselete software such as OS X.
Ethanace 3 years ago
emulating obsolete software? how stupid are you?
if Apple released OS X for PCs it would run natively on PCs just like on Macs
if you want to talk about obsolete software, lets talk about XP. Most PC users are still using XP, the decade old stoneage OS.
Mac OS X is a modern day, cutting edge OS.
Do you know how many PC manufacturers such as Dell, HP, Sony, etc have continually attempted to get Apple to release Mac OS.
Micro$oft is lucky that Apple is unwilling to do so
idiothater1 3 years ago
XP was released in 2001, so it's not even 8 years old.
Secondly, I think you will fail to find ONE task that OS X can do that XP CANNOT.
There is simply no explaination because XP can do anything Mac can do, simple as that. Vista has trouble doing it but it can perform all tasks as well (but becuase Microsoft tried to make it easier they've made too many windows and dialog boxes which actually slows the user down)
At least grow up and type Microsoft correctly, or should I start saying @ppl3?
Ethanace 3 years ago
Can you tell me why Apple are not making as many sales as Microsoft, despite the fact they have an agressive marketing campaign against their rival, they have millions of simplicity marketing schemes, they sell hundreds of gadgets world wide that are increasingly popular, they sell an apparently "cutting edge" OS with a Mac PC in many forms, such as iBook, Mac Mini, iMac, MacBook, MacBook Air, etc....
Microsoft Sell - Windows XP / Vista - Microsoft Office Programs.
And yet the sales top $138Bn
Ethanace 3 years ago
you are still missing the point. Micro$oft sells software Apple sells hardware. Its comparing apples to oranges. There isnt a single computer or hardware manufacturer out there whose hardware sales top Micro$ofts software sales
idiothater1 3 years ago
Apple has more market value than any other PC manufacturer. Type this into Google
"Apple quadruple Dell"
By your statement of comparing software sales to hardware sales, then you would be saying that more people value Bill's software crap than any PCs manufacturers hardware crap. that makes no valid point whatsoever
idiothater1 3 years ago
When you say value, I fucking well hope you don't mean value for money or that's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard, even Mac Fanboys complain about the over-pricing of Mac. The same spec Mac's can cost up to £900 more. It's a waste. Remember that's almost $1,700

Ethanace 3 years ago
for starters, the Mac Pro is an 8 CORE XEON!
They dont even offer the ATI x1900xt!
idiothater1 3 years ago
Yes it does offer the ATI X1900xt because it's on Google shopping lol. Just literally type it in on Google and all the results are ridiculously expensive, even the single processor Mac's are fucking shit loads of money
Ethanace 3 years ago
Google shopping? Once again you are a fool
The true source for specs and prices are the companies that make them...Apple and Dell
idiothater1 3 years ago
You are the fool, supplying me with Specs from Dell, Dell are fucking shit, I can build a PC myself more powerful than any Dell peice of shite.
Mac, no matter what type it is, is just a crappy, un-upgradable, bespoke peice of wank.
The keyboards didn't even use to have a DELETE button, they used to only supply the backspace key, that only changed after Apple release the "mighty" mouse and keyboard, which are both still crappy, a mouse with one button, and the right click sense is often wrong.

No computer is that expensive, no matter how much shit you stack in it.
What is the point in putting Micro$oft instead of Microsoft. It's pathetic.
Ethanace 3 years ago
you are so full of shit. the specs and prices i listed can directly from Apple and Dell
why dont you call up both Apple and Dell and try to argue with them...fool
idiothater1 3 years ago
I got my price from Alienware itself, so it is still cheaper than the machines that you list YOURSELF.
Ethanace 3 years ago
you were trying to compare an Apple 8 core Xeon workstation to an Alienware Core2 Duo gaming rig dumbshit!!
i did a genuine comparison 8 core Xeon workstations from Apple and Dell with prices and specs directly from Apple and Dell!!
Apple kills Dell on workstations!!
You are trying to compare Apples to Oranges, dumbshit!!
idiothater1 3 years ago
APPLE, which is a bespoke pile of shit (not that I expect someone of your diminished knowledge to know what the fuck that means), is not compareable to DELL, You're trying to compare Apple, a shit company, to Dell, even shitter! If I were to call you a fucked up dumbass that would be the understatement of the year.
Ethanace 3 years ago
Since you think you are so smart, arrogant fool, give me genuiune verifiable specs and prices directly from ANY PC manufacturer that has the EXACT same specs or BETTER for the same price on 8 core Xeon workstations
idiothater1 3 years ago
that would be difficult because most PC's with those specs are gaming platforms, and would usually contain hardware the the equivelent Mac would not.
However, I could find the most expensive Mac, and the most expensive PC on the web, and the Mac would still win.
Ethanace 3 years ago

This year is likely to see 10 million Macs sold.
ribaldi 3 years ago
It hasn't dipped below 90%, sorry to say XP has 86.72 percent share by itself as of 2008. Vista is the second most popular platform at 3.20 percent, Mac OS X is used at 2.78 percent as of august 2008. The rest is used up by windows servers, 2000, 98 etc, and very little is open source OS's
Ethanace 3 years ago
you are stating false numbers
Apple has 10% marketshare world wide of computer manufacturers
25% in the U.S.
idiothater1 3 years ago
If I heard the recent quarterly earnings correctly, 25% is in the narrower category of consumer PCs in the US - which is a subset of the US PC market. In that regard, 10% is the higher spectrum estimates for Apple's overall market share in the US. The world wide market for Macs is still around 3%. You can still download the quarterly earnings report from iTunes as a podcast. Search 'earnings'.

Well here is the quote I got it from:
"Microsoft's Windows dominates the operating system market with a global usage share of 96.72 percent. In August 2008 the total global usage share of Microsoft's Windows was 96.97 percent. Microsoft's Windows Vista has a global usage of 3.23%. The leading operating system on the web is still Microsoft's Windows XP with a global usage share of 87.36 percent. The global usage share of Apple's Macintosh is 2.70% and the global usage share of Linux is 0.36%."
Ethanace 3 years ago
what is your source for that
idiothater1 3 years ago
Thanks for the quote.
IOW Macs made about $1 billion profit with 3%.
ribaldi 3 years ago
As far as OSes, Apple is sitting at about 14%. That includes all the illegal and hacked copies of Leopard being run on pcs

beefless 3 years ago
Yes, Crappy opertating system!!!! And Yes I have used Vista, infact, I have an 8 month old Asus Laptop running Vista home Premium. It has failed to boot 2 times because of major software defects, and has wiped my harddriver clean both of those times.. I have given up on it. I haven't turned it on months... stupid worthless piece of junk. I find my mac a breeze to use, lovely machine. Look, you stick to you PC's and I'll stick with my Mac!
ggglennnn 3 years ago
How nice.
ribaldi 3 years ago
Except that you don't HAVE to use Zune Marketplace or use Windows file formats... but Mac forces you to use their products and theirs alone.
SaberScorpion 3 years ago
MP3s works just as well on iPods. Apple's FairPlay DRM only applies to DRM protected songs and videos sold on iTunes. You can buy MP3s from Amazon and use on iPods. No Apple control there. I still say the inconvenience of their points system where MS always holds some of your money in the form of points is akin to Feds withholding tax money for you. Money in MS' pockets first I will not abide. Doesn't that seem like forcing you to spend more money than actually needed?
ribaldi 3 years ago
I wasn't talking about MP3's; I was talking about WMA files, which the iPod refuses to support because it's a Microsoft product. My Creative-brand music player can play any of these file types, and no need to use any kind of points system or iTunes. No nonsense.
SaberScorpion 3 years ago
I don't understand this one
Are you trying to say a PC is for illegal pirating and Mac is for legally downloading music?
HitAKADylan 3 years ago 3
the fact that its in a proprietary format that you cant legally put on some other non-apple device, so basically you have to pay a buck and then youre not even free to listen to it (unless youve already paid $200 or whatever for the player they sell, or at a minimum use their memory hog itunes program)
theredscourge 3 years ago
Do you even own a mac, because you can send it to other computers
You just have to let iTunes know which computers you own and then you can legally share the songs for free
