Voice over made me crazy, i didnt know iphone could do that cause i recently got mine and someone set my iphone 4 on voice over and i was going crazy !! haha though i figure it out how to turn it off. On the other hand its pretty awesome how iphone 4 could be use by people impared.
I use VoiceOver a lot! I wanna know how to change the voice though. I went to language rotor and if u select a different language it has a different voice but it won't stay like that. Does anyone know how?
The point is not that the voice over is innovative or particularly new, but rather the medium through which the voice over is accessible, E.G, a touchscreen with the added benefit of portability. This does provide a new method of screen reader use, and while not unique, it does currently best the Apex or the SensePlus.
@lipthony if you haven't figured it out by now, tapping 1 finger highlights, 2 finger tap selects. So to type passcode 1234, highlight 1 by tapping it once, then select it by tapping anywhere on the scene with 2 fingers. Repeat until you've entered all 4 numbers.
Open settings by highlighting it with a 1 finger tap, then selecting with a 2 finger tap. If you need to scroll use 3 fingers to swipe.
HELP PLEASE... My Iphone 3GS woke up this morning with the voice over app ON. I happen to have a passcode and I'm stuck right now , because I don't know how to unlock or disable this function. I can't even leave off the screen with the ENTER PASSCODE screen. Somebody...please...HELP!!!

@alrdyhaveanaccount That was because the screen curtain went on. To turn that off, just tripple tap with 3 fingers. VoiceOver will respond "Screen curtain off".
Yeah I tried this and my screen went blank! It took over an hour with the help of an apple tech to get it back. The tech couldn't figure out how it happened
I actually want one of these. & Yes, I am blind in both of my eyes. I tried this voice over thing out & it is bad ass. Hahaha, my cousin's saw me using it with her phone & it tripped her out. She says that a lot of the times, the screen is not exactly where the voice over curser is at so, she was confused. But, i got around & even used some apps. So, go apple, great job & keep it up.
You're missing the point. Assuming both of you can see, this feature isn't meant for you. If you can see it, you don't need voiceover. It's meant for blind people. Apple has done the impossible and made a touch screen interface accessible to the blind, and it seems they've done it well. I applaud apple's approach to universal access.
Thank you. I have no idea why people would have this on when they can already see.. It's kind of stupid. Maybe it's just the 'show-off' factor. Like you said, it's for the blind. I don't know why people say such dumb things about it being hard when they aren't even blind.
@hurricaneomega your right but i think in the car while driving its also handy. dont have to take the eye from the road. I love the voice call. on the car its so easy to call someone with just your voice...
@hurricaneomega Or for those of us who have low vision, or unable to see the screen, some of us can see something but if we have vision loss, we can tell by looking. To me the screen I can see its to bright, I have many vision problem overlaying my sight, being very sensitive to light is one them. I think it nice.
Or for those who have other type of disabilities it can aide in navigation, be hard for someone for example has a limted range of moment, it can provide feedback so they can intract.
@hurricaneomega How can it be "impossible" if it's clearly achievable and in this case, has actually been "achieved". You're starting to sound like an apple fan trying to talk up the product.
Also, they aren't making touch screens accessible for the blind, they are making the IPHONE accessible for the blind - which obviously generates more money!
@BlindLightbulb There's something VERY wrong with being an apple fan - when it clouds your judgement on what is a "good idea". This is hardly a good idea, but instead, a generic one used to sell their product to the blind as well as the stupid who throw money at a useless product.
Think about it, voice over software isn't exactly "new". They've taken an existing idea, and given the iphone a new audience
And if you still think that makes zero sense, well then there's no hope here...
@hurricaneomega Voiceover isn't actually just for blind people. If you have Dyslexia (for example) then you may also use it to speak out a word you don't understand.
Apple took a useful technology and made it worthless with extreme poor implementation. They should have added the text to speech to [cut, copy, paste, {read}] functions. Instead, the VoiceOver hijacks your phone's functionality and leaves you quite frustrated. Once you've turned it on, you will find it quite challenging to turn it back off.
It's a good video. Voice Over is a tool really tremendous for the blinds persons
