  • BRILIANT! SUCH A GOOD MOVIE :x

  • I can see why Sam Raimi chose him as Spiderman

  • Michael Caine's American accent creeps me out

  • One of the best movies ever, have seen it ten times I think. The director Lasse Hallström is a genius, both this movie and Gilbert Grape are Oscar worthy! And Charlize Theron, the most beautiful girl in the world

    !

  • One of the best movies ever, have seen it ten times I think. The director Lasse Hallström is a genius, both this movie and Gilbert Grape are Oscar worthy! And Charlize Theron, the most beautiful girl in the world!

  • Homer left for New York to save the people with his Spidey skills

  • 90's movies and soundtracks are just unforgettale

  • Excellent movie

  • goodnight you princwes of maine, you kings of new england

  • John Irving, he's simply genius.

  • 1.36 almost sounds like a sound effect used in HoMaM 3. Not sure though, listen for yourself :D

  • @Kawjene lol i had to google HoMaM just to know what you are talking about.

  • I think Michael Caine is the best of the film, im not british, im spanish, but he is a genius, one of the best ever, i remember one fim in 1972 with Laurence Olivier, im admire you Sr you are great

  • I'm reading the book as of now it's fantastic I can't wait to get this movie and watch it!

  • this movie sucked ass

  • I am ADDICTED to this film! everything in it is perfect, the acting, the plot, the soundtrack, the script, etc etc etc!

I just love this film, and moreover, I adore Tobey Maguire!

  • narrator sucks.

  • Why does toby maguire always get the plucky underdog role...I hated him in spiderman and I'm really dissapointed he's Homer Wells...I'm reading the book. On a more positive note,...damn, Charlize Theron is hot!!

  • @banzansberger Although I have never read the book(and agree in dislike of Tobey Maguire) I believe that he was an excellent Homer Wells in this movie. Phenominal film.

  • The girl at 0:14 smiling is so cute when she looks at the couple and smiles,

I love when my little Anjeni Katalin looks at me and smiles :)

  • love this movie.........

  • scarlett is beautiful in this movie

  • @albuorkka ...You mean Charlize?

  • @WriterGirl628 yes,what a mistake;D Now I feel so ashamed

  • tobey maguire is an amazing actor. Im actually reading the book now! Beautiful movie

  • 1:20 that sound clip is from the old PC game Heroes of Might and Magic 3. They use it on South Park a lot too... I always thought it was really from that game... is it just a common stock orchestra flourish?

  • Michael Caine with an American accent = what the FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK, so weird

  • Well he is an actor ! that's what actors do ! like act ! haha :OP

  • holy shit, Michael Caine with an American accent is BIZARRE, WTF?

  • it's so sad...caine can't see homer..when he dies...really sad..

  • @hilaryduffok Does it show alot of Kieran Culkin in this movie?Or does he have just a few scenes?

  • wow he IS specil.. and soo FINE (; cutie !

  • This music is on The Notebook trailer.

  • This is one amazing movie, I watched it recently. I love the story and the plot. I gotta check out the book, when I first saw this I know it had to be a book.

  • @DemonstrativeRanD I read the book, and yeah, it was good. Now I got to watch the movie.

  • I find myself saying this way too much but

    READ THE BOOK GUYS.

It's an alright movie, but the book.. Wonderful.

People should read way more books than go and see movies anyway, book always beats a movie even though I enjoy both. Keep reading people.

  • I didn't like this movie at all. I found Charlize's character annoying. She seemed a bit full of herself. When she says "I'm no good at being alone" I wondered if she was a sex addict?

Maybe she just needed to learn how to masturbate?

  • I have to read this book for class!

  • This movie one of the greatest reflections of the subtle insanity of our society. Amidst the beautiful scenery and the heart-melting music.... you realize this movie centers on abortion? I mean it's incredibly morbid if you just stop for a second. That pot he's carrying at 1:00? It's the 'waste from the procedure.' It's the body of an aborted fetus. I know the characters have redeeming qualities. But still, I "felt like I was taking crazy pills" when I watched this movie. WTF.

  • @jpl7777 It's the fucked up bits that quite often make the movie awesome...there's a lot worse out there than a bit of abortion here and there, it's not the 1940's anymore.

  • @rustedrainbow I absolutely do not think it was an intentional plot point that they take abortion that nonchalantly. IMO, abortion isn't something you take lightly. You're either strongly for the right to have one, or you're strongly opposed. I just think it's really, really messed up.

  • @jpl7777 I'm not of the opinion that the film was noncholant about abortion, nor is that my own opinion. Whether it's abortion, rape, murder, huge amounts of violence, all i mean is that that is what often makes a good movie, because who would want to watch a film where everything was perfect, what kind of interesting thoughts or emotions would be brought up by that?

  • the movie is great and the sand beach is a wonderful spot where I fell in love as well

  • I think Charlize Theron is the most beautiful actress in hollywood.

  • LOL, Dewey from Malcolm in the middle!

  • woah charlize <3333333

  • Michael caine is wonderful in this movie, his oscar is fully deserved.

  • All you idiots who gave Ritaofdoom a thumbs-down need to read the book. But the movie does have the ether, Rita.

    RHYMES WITH SCREAMS.

  • This is one of my favorite movies ever.

  • dude this has got to be 1 of the greatest movies in the world

  • Well done movie about life. Our dreams, frustrations, and our pain. Excellent movie. Toby Maguire is a great actor.

  • This movie is great!!

  • Thsi movie looks like dildos compared to the book. Where is the long scene about sucking off ponies? Where is the ether addiction? Where is the gonerrea? Dildos

  • This film received a 12 rating in the UK, that means anyone aged 12 or over could watch it. However, in Ireland the film received an 18 rating, meaning only people aged 18 or over could see it. The reason being because the plot involved abortion!

  • I haven't seen this movie. Is it true there's a torture scene? If there is, then I respect the 18 rating. Somebody on another "cider house" video mentioned the torture scene involved a ceiling fan and an ice cream scoop.

  • To the person who asked about a torture scene, no, there is no torture scene in this movie. I can't speak about the book, but the movie definitely has no such thing. The rating is for brief nudity (of Charlize Theron hubba hubba), language, and for adult content (one important theme in the movie deals with abortion).

  • This movie is sooooo good. Tobey Maguire should stick to material like this instead of Spiderman. He's got more talent than that.

  • he did a very good job in spiderman's but this is realy a masterpiece!

  • Yeah this is a very well done movie. Tobey and Michael Caine were awesome in this.

  • dewey!!!!

  • great movie.

  • 1:16

    "you serious"

    no hes kidding dumbass

  • john irving writes good books this is one of my favourites. still the book is better

  • yeah they left out the part where larch performs abortions waaaaaaaa

  • i saw the movie and it sucks, compared to the book if u read it, it makes no sense, they left out so many good stuff with like rose rose and yeah i wouldnt recommend it

  • really? i only saw the movie. what did i miss? i did hear that in the book homer and candy had a baby, and he told wally that she was adopted.

  • yup but it was a HE not a girl u dubass AND they named HIM angel because of nurse angela cuz nurse nangela named homer

  • gosh, you don't have to call me a dumb ass. i never read the book. i didn't know

  • srry i got a little worked up but the book is ah-maz-ang

  • Michael Caine is great, i love the movie.

  • i read the book its awesome omg omg OH MAH GAWD

  • I could never enjoy this movie.

    It wasn't that great.

  • thts dewey of malcom in the middle

    Fuzzy

  • Meraviglioso questo film, il più bello del mondo...anche il libro è una meraviglia, non mi stanco di vdrlo mi riempie il cuore...

  • i found that the camerawork for this movie was excellent.

if you get a chance to watch this movie, take notice.

    great movie A+++++

  • I love this movie. And The Notebook is awesome too, haha.

  • God does not love judgmental people either...

  • God does not love abortion.

  • how the fuck do you know what god loves

  • Its called the Bible, Smart Stuff

  • and who wrote the bible?

  • Have you asked him?

  • God doesn't love people that put words into his mouth either, does he?

  • hahahahaha funny

  • You're fucking stupid.

  • I'm only giving you a negative comment because I don't think one single person could know what God thinks. Then again the existence of God is debatable, but that's how I feel.

  • god doesnt exist u smart ass

  • hahaahahaa... YOU! called that person a smart ass... YOU!! hahahahaha

  • uh who invited to the conversation u dimwit go comment on someone elses comments kitten drowner

  • haha, you're a funny man, Tubebullies

  • Abortion is only wrong when the woman is whoring around. In this case, he had to.

  • my brothers were in this movie the are the babies in the shelter and my brother sam is the one who carried up the hill in northampton (they are twins so both appeared)

  • One of the most beautiful and amazing movies I have ever seen

  • the piano music in the background is also from another trailer/movie, and its killing me! i dont know where! does anyone know!?

  • This music is also played in "The Notebook" trailer from 2004. It is also played in the "Pure Michigan" advertisements.

  • I haven't seen the movie yet, just reading the book now, and I absolutely love it! third favorite behind water for elephants and catch 22

  • I love how Fuzzy is played by Dewie from "Malcolm In the Middle"

  • Life starts at conception. Not at three months like Polosi claims!!!...............People should be more responsible so abortion does not have to happen. Every man and woman has a choice to ever have relations. And rape is a horribble thing, but addoption is an alternative. Beauty can come out of a horrible evil. Too bad the horrible evil has to happen. Unfortunatly abortion is an option. Think of how many rape babies grew up to be amazing individuals. Im out on a limb.

  • Life began about a billion years ago and has been rolling on along ever since.

  • the book is such nice and i was so desapointed when i saw the movie ... if u have the choice, choose the BOOK first ...then you'll probably find the movie so poor compared to it...

  • This is one of the best movies ever made and really makes you want to cry its so great.

  • this movie is nice. i like it.

  • this was based on a true story, and its sad, it happend around 1964

  • I think it's a fiction, and it doesn't happen around 1964 but mainly during WWII

  • why is this title of the book? I saw only movie and got the glimps of the "rule at the house", but still don't know what the title meant.

  • Because those rules were written by folks who died long ago and never even lived in the cider house and the rules did not make any sense to those workers. A parallel to women and their right to choice. The rules (laws) are written by men who have no clue about the difficult choice/decision of abortion. Rules may make sense sometimes but only when you experience reality, you know you have to make a decision.

  • Beautifully put nfn2000

  • That's the freaking soundtrack from HeroesIII!

  • La película es sin duda sobresaliente, y la actuación de Michael Caine, sencillamente espectacular.

  • this movie is so emotional.. i love it !

  • excellant film...filmed in lenox massachusetts, barttboro vermont and acaida maine

  • i like the movie, but they cut out so many parts from the book...i mean, candy and homer were suppose to have a BABY!!! :(

  • So sad, yet some scenes are heartwarming like when they say to the children Goodnight Princes of Main Kings of New England

  • This movie is just so amazing I love it and Im so proud that Lasse hallström is from sweden because Im from sweden to :D

  • I love this film, it's so beautiful and so sad at the same time. My favourite scenes are when Buster makes up the story about how Fuzzy got adopted by "a nurse or a nanny, so let's be happy for him" and Dr. Larch is standing outside the door, crying, and the scene where he was just buried and they say their evening prayer without him.

  • I love this movie too. The part when Fuzzy died was my favourite scene too! I felt really sad for Fuzzy!!! "Goodnight Fuzzy!"

  • does Fuzzy Die? :O ( erik ) omg plz tell me

  • Fuzzy does die. it's really sad when he does b/c Homer and Dr. Larch hide it from the children and tell them he was adopted by someone who could take better care of him...

  • austen.... thanx for the reply....but what did he die of? and how does the movie end? i dont think ill see it :( i dont find it! sorry for the bother..lol

  • yea he died

  • wow! i need to see this! it looks really heartwarming!!!

  • the saddest part of the movie is when buster says to the children lets be happy for fuzzy he has found a new home good night fuzzy and all the children said good night fuzzy and fuzzy died T-T

  • Love this movie!

  • is it a true story?

  • i love this movie they shud have the whole thing

  • omg this movie is amazing. i LOVE it..it's so sad, yet happy at the same time

  • Dewey from "Malcolm in the Middle". Haha!!

  • one of the best books ever written. the movie does john irving's story no justice...

  • well i would say it does it some justice, seeing as how john irving wrote the screenplay himself. i love the movie and the book in their own respective lights...the book is so desciptive, but the movie mirrors that as much as it can.

  • i understand that john irving wrote the screenplay, and he spent several years writing it. i still say the movie blows compared to the book. melanie isn't in the movie, and buster isn't in the book (although i understand he basically serves as homer wells). it is too sprawling and meandering a narrative to funnel into a two hour movie. i never believed in homer and candy's relationship in the movie ("wally knows i can't be alone") pffftt. oh yeah, where's wally in the movie? paul rudd? cmon

  • I just read the book and now i'm not so eager to watch the movie.

  • OK, Michael Caine did NOT deserve the Oscar for this! They only gave it to him because he is a ledgendary old actor. Also, the Academy must have thought one Oscar just wasn't enough. That award SHOULD have gone to young Haley Joel Osment, who gave one of the most powerful, strong and memorable preformances of all time. He took on a very challenging role, unlike Michael Caine's character that any actor could have played. So what if he was 11?He still gave one of the best preformances of all time.

  • i totally disagree that michael caine shouldn't have won. if you read the book, you find out that dr. larch has a very interesting past, and it makes him a very challenging part to play.

  • haley joel in what movie??? he's not even IN this movie. i think michael caine did an amazing job, not anyone could have played his character the way he did.

  • i agree

  • @BillyL96

What are you smoking? Haley Joel Osment was not even IN this movie...

  • love this movie, but to bad that angel was not in it

  • I love this movie. And Lasse Hallström is one of my fav producers ever! he also did a great job with his movie Chocolat and An Unfinished Life <3

  • now I've seen the movie and i was a bit disappointed...,it is quite different from the book,..c'mon john where's angel wells?..i like it better in the book..the movie?not so...tobey did a very good job though.

  • i've read the book just recently and yet to watch the movie, but unfortunately no copy is available in video shop...still looking forward to have it,..i like it very much..it really rules..spectacular.!!

  • so underated this movie...two most underated movies of all time is this and road to perdition with Tom Hanks

  • I had no idea Erykah Badu was in this movie

  • this is a sensational movie. love it! charlize theron is gorgeouss!

  • "nobody ever wants me" Makes me want to cry every time!

  • i know...i love curly :[ he's so cute

  • ive read the book 3 times, but ive yet to see the movie...but it looks worth while

  • estab es una de mis pelis favoritas en verdad .

  • This movie is great. The story in the book is a little different and worth reading too.

  • Yea i saw it last nite 2, d little boys(Curly n Fuzzy) made me cry!! Dey wer adorable!

  • when I saw it last night, I cry 3 time,

    that night....I can't sleep!

  • it was on last night

  • i saw this movie

  • THIS WAS SUCH A GREAT MOVIE! I can't imagine if the book is even better. YOU WON'T REGRET IT IF YOU SEE IT! The orphanage was truly a special place with special people.

  • If you think the movie is good, just read the book. They left so much out of the movie and really condensed the amount of time it covers. Some of the book is a little more descriptive than I enjoyed (abortions) but if you look over that than you will find a truly touching story.

  • I wanna watch this so bad!

  • Never seen this movie before but now I want to. Tobey Maguire is so sweet ^_^

  • I love this movie so much! Rachel Portman's score is one of the best scores I' ve ever heard. I want to read the book!

  • my pleasure, thank you all for watching and rating..

  • wonderful book....wonderful film soooo glad they picked laisse Halstrom to direct this heartwarming human story...thanks for you tubing it...

  • great film.

  • Dr. Larch's dead makes me cry each time I watch this movie.:'( I love Michael Caine for his performance. And I love Rachel Portman for this fantastic score!

  • One of the greatest films of the last 10 years. I am so glad John Iriving adapted his own novel for the screen, because no one else could have. Michael Caine gave a phenomenal performance, but I thought the standout performance was deffinantly Delroy Lindo. One of the few novel to films that I thought was done well!

  • That was a great movie, I want the book.

  • i love this music!

  • I love this movie! so simple, pure and perfect. Michael Cain's best acting ever.
