This is what I'm talkin about. There are alot of knee deep video's bt most of them don't have the guitar solo in them. This right here is the joint...
is there anyone who knows if the last part of this vid (i mean from 4.00) is an actual song (or cover or medley) or is just an improvisation? thanx cheers
Yeah after a while Mike was str8 blazzin all Eddie's signature tunes. No Diss to Ed but Mike was a true Talent that only got appreciated through true funkateers and music appreciators. SHine on Young Man
@nubiansista4life never heard Eddie play live in person. I like what funkedbyinjection said : Mike did not have the emotional quality that Eddie had. All in All Mike got better and could do the things Eddie did but of course there will only be 1 Eddie Hazel.
@lookafterlove Serious? Watch Red Hot Mama where Eddie Hazel and Bernie Worrell play with The Crunch. Eddie was close to death and still sound and played beautifully. Now, watch Mike Hampton's "Maggot Brain 2008" and you got one hot mess! You know I'm going to quit downplaying Mike, because he appear to be suffering from extended drug use like Eddie did at one time.
@lookafterlove surely you jest. mike h couldn't hold eddie's guitar strap in the long run. watch the end of the video and see who puts who in his place. mike never had the emotional quality that eddie had from day one. and yes, i saw them both play.
@funkedbyinjection Don't see why people want to continue to compare the two. Each brought something to the table to make the PFunk sound and experience. That is the beauty of the whole PFUNK sound. No two player of the same instrument were the same. Eddie and Mike are great for what they bring.
@funkedbyinjection Tell it like is was, EHazel incredible, Kid Funk Incredible JR. The Funkadelics & PFunk, brings the best out of the inner core of your very being, what an assortment of undefinable talent..Sweet dreams Mr Hazel.
man...sickness. i saw parliament twice, once in 1992 in the berkeley arena, once at lollapalooza. we saw george clinton leaving out the back door and followed him all the way to the hotel, then jumped out and screamed at them when they went in. what a night - funkadelic parliament - one of earth's finest pleasures!
I always looked to Michael for the solo's Eddie had his props but I never heard anything that made me think he was that good. No disses here I may have never heard the tunes, but Michael I did notice. He isn't there half the time but his playing is good. I stopped buying guitar player mag cause they never put him in there. Seems like something happened in this performance.. like the solo was cut short.
@newtimes2 well for one Mike had more stage showmanship then Eddie, but when it came to true guitar playing Eddie is in a league of his own. No diss, just my honest opinion. Stay Funky!
@nubiansista4life eddie stopped being a showman even before mike h. joined. he stayed in the background and only came forward for solos. it was just his way. he pretty much let his guitar speak for him. and it says plenty.
reading all these comments, no one fell this funk, or knows a damn thing about it. i swear this generation sucks ass when it comes to music. I wouldve loved to be alive during this era, when music came of the soul and heart.
Due to Good Burger this is probably Funkadelic's well known song along with One Nation Under a Groove. In my opinion Maggot Brain is the bands best record though. Every track is a different genre, even within some of the tracks. Everything from psychedelic rock-hard rock, gospel even. A masterpiece.
I love Knee Deep. I Remember when it came out. My mother bought it forme when I was 10 yeaers old. that more bounce to the ounce, and Cameosis. Funk was my First Love.
Dennis Chambers was still human here ! . He moves his arms and is actually making an effort lol These days he plays stuff that is ten times more heavy and difficult and he doesn't blink an eye any more ;-)
A superb, screaming performance by Hampton stciks pretty close to the studio version. He wasan enormous fretboard talent, although (sadly, deceased) Eddie Hazel was a gargantuan guitar great.
they always cut the solo part to this song out!!! on the studio ver. on cd i can never find the solos on there. the bastards they are ruining these guys. you can thank todays gay ass record comanies for that.
i have this album on cd. and the solo to this is taken out. wen i hear it on the radio. the solo is also taken out!!! they are making these guys seem less talented and its pissing me off!!!
Do you have a greatest hits collection? Because every CD copy of this album that I have has the guitar solo intact. The version that you hear on the radio is an edit that the radio station did themselves, since the 45 edit isn't available on CD. And as we all know, radio doesn't like to play the 15:23 version.
My personal favorite guitar solo of all time! Just made my own personal two cd set of Parliament Funkadelic. They are the greatest funk or R&B band ever! Youtube is one of the greatest things ever.... when i saw them in concert in the 80's I thought a fat white guy played the solo... did I remember it wrong???
You ain't never lied!!! I had a friend record it onto cassette from his CD!! And until I saw this, I thought that there was a percussionist playing as well. But no, IT'S JUST DENNIS KILLING IT!!!!!!
This clip is def from Germany. It's from their Rockpalast Special (Rockpalast is a German music show that has featured many great artists over the past few decades). They have been playing this special on my Digital Cable On Demand for the past month. I've watched it like 20 times cuz it's soo sick!!!!!
it all about the essence of our music, in its supernatural state. it was ahead of it time in the 70's. and so it goes to show you that it takes white folks, germans, or what the hell ever, to get hip, even if its a decade too late! black folk are supernatural; sooner or late the world will wake up. so put that in your peace pipe and smoke on it a while, {free your mind and your arse will follow)
