Karl Malone holds the UTAH JAZZ scoring record with 61 points against the Bucks 20 years ago next week. But this video is proof that Pistol Pete has the Jazz' all time record for scoring.
Notice that he does not hog the ball like the guards of today. He makes passes and then moves to go and get the ball. If you can't see how good this guy is, go and watch Lacrosse
yo that dude is tha truth.. in my opinion i think he played more of a playground type ball... most people in those day's looked stiff and to organized.. pistol was comin off of pick and rolls and shit hittin shot's like it was nuttin.. he remind me of a mixture of chris paul and kobe... except for tha dunking part
That post move that he did @ :57 was the sickest I have ever seen. Total disrespect of the defense, total disregard of his body and he still scores. I never even thought about scoring like that, he went straight up and backwards!! lol
That post move that he did @ :57 is the sickest backdown move I have ever seen. That was pure savageness. No respect for the defender, total disregard of defense and the body, and he still made it. I never even thought about trying to score like that lol!
maybe before him, he was definitly a trailblazer but there are players after him that could definitly do the same. I mean Dr.J, Larry, Magic, Mike, Kobe, Bron.
Humanity at it's "finest" via comments in you tube. Take any topic in this case Pete one of the greats and people will inevitably say he wasnt so good and soon after everyone is cowardly typing in insults back and forth. Beam me up Scotty, no intelligent life here.....
not in the clutch when it counts, in the 80's teams new that if they didn't stretch out the lead and the game was close with seconds left...that Larry bird was going to win the game. You can't say the same about the pistol
hey dudes, are you kidding? This man is awesome! Sure it wasn't such a good defence in those times but this guy had a very much talent, don't you think? Look at those moves. They're amazing.
I'll put it this way: when the NBA has to redo their 50 greatest players roster, Pete Maravich will be one of the first ones taken off the list to make room for newer additions. How he ever got on it in the first place is odd.
Sorry guys, but I've never understood Maravich. I read an article saying he was the most overrated player in NBA history, worst defender in NBA history, among other things. If you want to see scoring, go look up Wilt Chamberlain

was that game against philadelphia? cuz i see an AFRO GUY..i asume hes Julius Erving
KiPwnNubs 2 years ago
No, it's the game aginst the Knicks. McAdoo, Monroe, Frazier were there. Plus Phil Jackson from the benche. Erving was still probably in ABA.
ichabod1920 2 years ago
@ichabod1920
This game is from 1977. Erving wasn't in the ABA, he was in the NBA with the Sixers.

Do those look like 76er uniforms? You see a black guy with a big afro and assume it must be Dr. J??? What a stupid comment.

By adding up the % - this is more impressive performance that Kobe's 81 points...
And Pete got fouled out at the end...

Pete could do more with a basketball than anyone who ever played the game.

Pistol Pete, Amazing, There is just a fluid grace about him that's lacking in the NBA today. They don't make em like they use to

Of course he wouldn't have scored less, but he's not hitting 11 3's. Let's be real here.
boxingoutsider 4 years ago
He wouldn't have scored 79 points, commone, lets be real. Dude was a scorer nonpariel, and he could pass, but let's not make him into some demigod.

Well, there's a whole lot of Celtics (like Tom Heinson) on that list that'll have to come off before Maravich. That I know for sure

You saw like 5 shots you idiot. He would've had 90.

serbia? I dont think he had a tragic career. He did make the NBA 50 greatest and is a hall of famer. He did die young though.

Great player, tragic career.

If the 3-point line had existed in those days, he would have had closer to 80 points. That's no lie!
