  • I think this is fantastic. The delivery is so honest and heartfelt, the voice is deliciously rich and velvety, and it is a truly moving performance. Bravo. And thank you for sharing.

  • one question tho, did you learn this just by listening to the soundtrack?

  • first off, i wanna say great job. but i wouldve worked on the rhythms more, and been a little softer because your pleading not yelling.

  • I actually had never seen this and yes had only heard the soundtrack of it.

Second, I disagree. It is all how you look at it. I saw it in a different way then you did. I see it as a progression of emotions from pleading to anger and frustration. That was my take on it. So in this case, you are correct and I am also correct.

  • look up Michael Chekhov's technique with psychological gesture.

Sometimes small movement is the most powerful movement, and always move with intent.

    Great voice!

  • I completely understand. However, this was 2 years ago now and I do know that less is most often times more.

I did choose to do the things I did because it is a very long song and is I really go with "less is more" it will get boring for the audience before the end of the song.

    Thanks for the advice.

  • Really great job man. You have an excellent tenor voice.

  • ohhh lIttle Tenor boy

I love you and I wish I knew your name

so I wouldnt have to call you little tenor boy anymore lol

  • hsnare0218, look around, his name is hidden in plain sight.

  • This is great, hun! Amazing diction. That was the first thing I picked up on.

  • excellent voice! one suggestion: when you get to the actual "if i didnt believe in you" part, make your gestures more contained and a lot softer. jamie is almost pleading with cathy and hes remembering all the things that made him love her. this is a surprisingly introspective song. again, superbly sung.

  • Well done!

  • You have no idea how much I love your voice, I would just say watch your over articulation of the individual words. This is one of the many ways the JRB breaks the rules. His music is like ironic conversation set to music instead of a normal musical. But again, love the voice

  • you do have a great, great voice, but i thought with some problems overacting. especially in the first half, many gestures become repetitive. also, just something to think about, you changed where the door was that you were going to walk out.

  • wow... that's all I can say..... I didn't really need to see your facial emotions.. because your voice... says it all.... I think the affect was very good overall... maybe a little more sustain on some gestures.... That was truly an amazing performance... That's my favorite song from The last five years.... and you performed it beautifully.. you truly are a performer... keep studying!

  • you have a great tone, a beautiful voice, really. keep it up, this is pro-work!

  • BTW that comment was directed towards TelevisonJett. Caleb Shaw your great!

  • haha so i've been looking for a guy who could hit the high notes in "i'd give it all for you" and so i look it up and i find you! too bad you dont live close! :)

  • I love it!

  • Wow, so you have no idea what you are talking about. The acting was great and he showed great emotion in this performance. This guy is something special.

  • Actually there is a thing called over-acting and much of Jason Robert Browns stuff runs on natural emotion instead of going overboard with typical stage acting during the songs. Also it is a small venue and the camera didn't pick up my facials because of the lighting. If you were there you would see that I actually am acting while singing.

  • With that said I need to give you some slack. But I still think that the acting could be stronger. Camera or not I should be seeing your acting. Like I said it wasn't bad (far from it) but just not perfect. And also watch out for habitual gestures.

  • Great job. Nice control, tone. Very good choice in song as well.

And honestly there's a different between a criticism/comment and continuous, obnoxious badgering. He obv has a degree in music and until kennyboyo is able to prove his amazing vocal range just keep further comments to yourself.

But amazing song, amazing singer. =]and of course props to the piano player.

  • hey man, i'm using this piece for an audition, and i must say...you did an AMAZING job with it. you have a very strong voice...keep it up

  • are you using sheet music or just a music disk, cause i'm searching for just the piano so i can sing over it.

  • Sheet music.

  • I noticed someone giving a lot of pointless "criticism." However, I believe you are a fantastic tenor. You have great tone and great control of your range. I won't be suprised to see you on a professional stage!

  • fuck kennyboyo1, you're awesome. you give me hope as a baritone.

    you rock.

  • Thanks man. You rock.

  • Wow - I'd just like to say that I think your voice is fantastic - this video is great and i think its a beautiful performance by all involved

  • O boy, Kenny, I'm sorry this video isn't everything you've ever wanted it to be. I'll be praying that you find what you're looking for... somewhere...

Friends of Caleb, I'm embarrassed. You don't have to get dragged into the name-calling game. You're better than that.

p.s. Caleb WAS sick, he DOES have a remarkable range, his voice WAS thrashed, and he WAS flat on that note. *shrug* I still like the vid.

  • Thanks Scott. Good points all around, but I would say to cut the "freidns of Caleb" a little break. They were somewhat over the top, but they were just having a little fun at Kenny's expense. Sure they were harsh, but his over the top, rudness was pretty far out too.

What you up to lately Scott?

  • Sorry, man, I stand by what I said. There's a difference between defending a friend's honor and stooping to the level of the person they're responding to. There's a better way, that's all I'm saying.

Nothing much- working, random gigs, wishing I were doing a show like this... you?

  • oh yeah and even if you did have a decent voice kennyboyo1 (up to B flat??? Thats AMAZING!!!!! *sarcastic*) I would automatically not like you just cause your incredibly immature, ridiculously ignorant and obnoxiously arrogant personality has left a really bad taste in my mouth. Good job

  • WOW! kennyboyo1... you are so retarded. lol! you are a sad little person... you sit and watch youtube videos and try to put down other people to make yourself feel better... I doubt you can even sing. I know caleb and he is probably the best male vocalist I've ever known... He sang this song after singing dozens of hours A DAY for about a week in rehearsals. PLUS he was sick... get over yourself you tard. lol! no one cares what you think anyway... we are all laughing at you

  • Wow, now he's got his friends backing him up. How nice of you.I suppose if you only knew one male singer, he would be the best wouldn't he. It really doesn't make him look better when you pull the whole "he was sick...he sang for 40 days and 40 nights..." line of BS. I only have one youtube video of me singing a cappella my freshman year of college. It's nothing special, nor is it my style, but it gets the job done.

  • ok, you're being a self-important jerk, and if you post in this tone again, i will block you. end of story.

  • This is one of the best versions of this song i've heard performed. stop being so self centered!

  • wow i was reading the little comment fight and I can't believe someone has nothing better to do with their precious time than comment on videos saying how impressive their range is. Thats sad. You could be vocalizing trying to get almost as good as this guy with that time. oh well

  • Very strong! Great work!

  • Good voice, Acting, meh. You don't need to always "motion" the words. Like for "throwing" you don't need to be throwing a touchdown.

  • take some acting classes...

  • Hey, just to say what everyone else has pretty much said: You're amazing! I know some pretty good people and you're definatley at the top above most of them! I really believe you and you're voice is fantastic Your range is unbelievable! I wish i had that range! Anyway... This is (next to "nobody needs to know")my favourite musical theatre song at the moment! And you're spot on: Jason Robert Brown is amazing! Ben xXx
  • This guys range is like G to G...Thats what we call a Baritone. Impressive would be G to B flat...like mine. But good job nonetheless.

  • Hey. Don't know who you are??? but if actually my range is more of an E to C which makes your range seem almost sad. Goodluck with life.

  • Any Baritone can growl and E and scream a C. It's control that you lack(@ 3:09 it was clear). And I can tell this just from what I've heard. I wasn't trying to be offensive, hence the "good job" I gave you.

  • Actually no growl of an E here... also I don't have to scream a C. Yes I have more of a baritone tone of voice then a completely nasaly girly tenor voice but I can assure you that my control and range are completely under control. Nothing lacking hear. Maybe that is your inner self crying out on your own personal control issues???

  • I am truly sorry I spoke. You sure quelled my doubts about you(even though in this song you flatted the high note, and were shockinglyquiet in the low). But hey maybe one day I will be as good(overconfident, throaty,in denial)as you!Maybe I'll have the infinite wisdom of someone who believes that vocal range is set or that(mediocre)Baritones are not a dime a dozen.Where do you go to(community)college?I simply must apply! They seem to have taught you(left out)so much about the voice as an instrument!

  • Actually I have my Music and Vocal Performance degree and make a good living singing. Yes I was flat on the "high note" but maybe you should check out some of the other songs I sang for that show. They are much higher and I handle them just fine. Not sure where you think I am shockingly quiet in the low? Do you have anything on the net I could see? I can't wait to see your amazingly superior vocal style and impresively huge range.

  • You are absolutely fabulous. You don't need to move around as much as you do. Your beautiful voice pulls us in enough. :)

Just a question. Why did you change some of the words? For instance, "If I'm fighting on your side" and "So that you can feel confident". I know that people edit out certain things (like the favorite forms of the word "f**k" that Brown so loves to use), but nothing in those lyrics was offensive.

    I was just wondering. :)

  • Haha, funny that you noticed that. Well, I did change some lyrics in other songs to be more family friendly, but the times you mention... well those are just me messing up the lyrics. It seems like you know JRB songs pretty well, and if you do then you know that the lyrics are pretty hard to nail down. I was singing about 7 or so songs total for that showcase and just simply mixed up the lyrics...well, said them wrong is more like it. Anyways, I'm glad that you liked it.

  • Oh yes. My friends and I are fanatics of JRB. I can totally understand messing up his lyrics. However I commend you on how well you covered that you messed them up. I'm pretty good at spotting when people screw up lyrics 'cause they show it to the audience. The fact that I thought you had just previously changed the lyrics shows a lot in your ability to stay calm and collected when you screw up. It's a talent that few people have.

  • This is deadletters314 on a different account, btw.

  • wow. This is fantastic.

    U r great

  • you have a beautiful voice. (even better than the original) I love that you give the song time. But just remember that the words are enough to show us the emotions.

  • Oooh! You did that great. I am singing this song for my music theatre class right now! I love JRB.

  • bravo

  • kick ass man

  • this is fantastic.

where are all these videos from? that must have been a kickass concert.

  • Hey, thanks! We're students at Azusa Pacific University (in California) who decided to do a concert of all JRB music. It was crazy fun (and just plain crazy) to play this music. Make sure you catch all 13 clips, courtesy of ellaquint.

  • Nice work! Keep it up, mate.
