I miss the episodes when Carter wore suspenders haha. That being said, I remember being in shock when I saw this scene and just wondering how long it would be before someone found them...
this was one of my favorite episodes....i will never be able to say it enough...i freakin LOVE LOVE LOVE ER, its the best most amazin show ever!!!!!!!! i miss it sooo much
God, I remember standing in the middle of my living room when this scene was over...I had gotten up off the sofa and had my hand in the middle of my chest with my shirt wadded up in it and I was shaking all over. I had no memory of getting up nor clutching my shirt. Now that's some powerful television.
this was the best ER episode and the saddest. I felt bad for Lucy and Carter... and plus I thanked God when Kerry found them.... her response when she saw them... and saying "everyone was having a party while they were bleeding to death in there".. and when her and Romano where stitching up Lucy's chest after she died, they seemed so paternal to her by tending to her dead body, you can tell the took her death hard. Powerful episode...
Love how masterful the effects and devices are, with Carter winding up in such a freaky position in such a mundane way that the viewer doesn't see it coming, how the angle only reveals the patient when he picks up the card, the smooth, subtle transition of the music from a physical source in the background to a full-on soundtrack, heightening the fact that it's now downing out all sounds...I'm a filmmaking buff, so I love these little process-related things.
Thank you for your most intelligent and articulate comment. Glad you liked the clip. The music they chose was quite perfect for this scene. Unfortunately, for the actor/stabber, whenever I see him, I can't forget his role here, and he always gives me the creeps.
@ecinajx19 I really love any bit of a film or movie that makes great use of filmmaking techniques. Just shows the team's brilliance. Another one of my favorites is the last eight minutes of the West Wing episode "Commencement", which used to be on youtube but unfortunately got deleted.
And totally agree on the actor — they made some really good casting decisions there.
I just wtached this episode a few weeks agot.. now I'm watching season seven... this episode end the next one was.. so sad..I cried when Lucy died cuz I liked her..and then this tragedy is always there in Carter's life... it was just simply sad...
Thank you so much for posting this. I have always said that this was one of the single most powerful moments of television that I ever saw. Something about the choice of music, the expressions on their faces, etc. I remember I was trembling for a good half hour after seeing it the first time, and have always wanted to see it again.

Great moment in TV history. Not however the best moment for some people in the hospital. Those dance moves will haunt me for the rest of my life.
