these guys were not just like the normal infantry grunts sent to europe! they badass motherfuckers rumor has it they were more cruel and merciless to the japs than the others to the germans
I knew two of them back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were an entirely different breed and that's not just "talking trash", we are talking straight up killers who did their business up close and personal. Their units were disbanded because the Marine Corps was not sure what to do with them after the war.
My old manager at Bass Pro Shop was a former Marine Raider. He told me a lot of crazy stories! The one that stays with me the most is one he told me where him and a squad mostly all Privates and PFC all 18-21 got dropped off at a embassy and they told them "We know how were getting you in, but we don't know how we're getting you out. We'll try to be back in a week" He said not many survived, kinda scary...
@USxXMarinesXxUs Marines are a branch in of the US Military. The Marine Raiders were basically the grandfathers of the modern day Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC) of the Marine Corps. So theyre still around, just under a different name. Fleet Marine Force. (if im mot mistaken)
Thanks for posting this! I'm fascinated by the Marine Raiders ( Carlson and Edson Raider Battalions ). They were the original amphibious warriors of WW2 before NCDU and UDT's. Fort Pierce, Florida still honours them at the UDT (SEAL) Museum...
WWII was a real war unlike the vietnam war and the iraq war these people were actually fighting for something real not just fucking people over and killing innocent families.
@XLIONCLAWX oh so the guy is innocent when he hes shooting RPGs at us..did you know we are not allowed to shoot taliban if we see them unless they shoot at us first.innocent familys the guy shoots rounds at us and then puts his wife and kids in front of him knowing damn well we wont shoot fuck his heart and fuck his mind.it isnt pointless they attacked us did you forget 9/11.i guess your one of those liberal freaks who smoke pot allday and think by saying shit with no proof will make a differan
My Uncle Bob fought with the raiders at Edson's ridge. Yesterday my friend in Australia sent me a piece of barbed wire from Edson's ridge he got on his last trip to the the Canal. I held the wire and my Uncles uniform and just cried for about half an hour.
..........???? nothing vulgar. i run by his memorial plaque in battery park on the weekly, and live near Holcomb ave. biggest name to come out of delaware as far as im concerned
My Great Uncle was a Marine Raider. He was one of the few that didn't come home. He was killed in action and his body left behind. Back in 1999 he finally was brought home. I am very proud of him and all whom served our country during that war. (PFC Ashley Hicks) Semper Fi
Don't order the DVD. You will never receive it. I hope this Millworkspost is being investigated. They never resonded to my emails, but they kept my money.
Cpl 2G Okinawa, Ryukyu Is., 20 May 1945 fought with the 2nd Marine Raider Bttln. I've read many stories about the actions and missions the Raiders did, they still amaze me to this day. Not to downplay the role of our modern armed forces, but these guys were and still are the real deal.
I'm a proud Grandson of a member of Edson's 1st Marine Raider Battalion. Edson's Raiders in my opinion was the best of the best. The courage they shown on Bloody Ridge is legendary.
Sorry... I didn't give a detailed enough answer. The are not the Navy SEALS directly. The Raiders only lasted about 2 years. However, they were an Elite force of men (the first of its kind in 1942) made up of the "best of the best" much like the SEALS are today. As for the comparison to the SEALS it's about as close as I could come to giving a quick answer....
No need for apologies. I am only correcting you for your own benefit. I assumed you would want the knowledge of there difference, since your Grandpa was a Raider. If you want a quick reference for the future, you can refer to MARSOC. Which stands for MARine Special Operations Command. Specifically MSOB 1 or 2 which are actual battalions that are taking on missions statements very similar to the Raiders of WWII.
well honestly the marine raiders were brought into the spotlight by mostly call of duty world at war. honestly films like gung ho did so for only a short time. so for the most part its cool call of duty is bringing back a part of lost history. the marine raiders!
I am playing Call of Duty for PC and one of the forces are the Marine Raiders ! They have a map in the beta called Makin from the assault on Makin Atoll that the Marine Raiders were involved in.
i brought up a film as well you never seen gung ho, thats a combat classic bout the raiders, ever since they were disbanded not many people knew about them. its just that call of duty did a good job of resurecting that part of marine history. and world at war was not entirely accurate or real. i'm not going to take time to explain cuz it would be a waste of my time.
dude no they where pirates not bad ones just one like a privateer and that squad retard long ago my grandfather keeps crying that day when he fought :(

Put it this way,to be a marine you were already elite. Now take 15000 marine volunteers and whittle that down to 900.That's a raider.
