  • Wasn't there a SegaCD port?

  • Retroware TV,about the 32X using the Same Soundtrack from the genesis port,I can see why,it's possibley because the 32X's Q-Sound Chip was basically difficult to program from what I heard, and I'm asuming that prode just decided to reused the soundtrack from the genesis version due to how difficult it was to program the sound chip from what I heard, hince why it used the same soundtrack.

  • MORTAL 2!

  • I had a love affair with the gameboy version. Played remarkably well for a gameboy game. No other portable mk for a long time lived up to it

  • Since MK9 is essentually a reboot of the MK Series I often wonder why the orginal four Arcade Games weren't included as bonus features in MK9

  • Mortal Kombat 2 on snes took up most of my teenage years

  • Saturn and 32X ports are the best.

  • @brunoafh123

The Sega CD port of MK 1 and the Saturn Port of MK II would've been the definitvie ports of the game had it not been for one thing: the near constant LOAD TIMES

  • You are too harsh on 32x MK2 , that game pushed the device to its limits.

The 32x version is widely considered one of the best MK2 home ports alongside the ms-dos/SNES versions.

  • for the 32x verison what else could they put in it they had better graphics, more speech, the intro, bio and ending screens, better animation, etc. The music was fine and still love it cause i grew up watching my brother play it. what else could they put in the game?

  • 32x looks the worst because it was a rubbish system just like the mega cd!!!

  • personally for me the 32X overall was on par with the SNES graphically and gameplay wise (but since the 32x was nothing but a basic processor and gfx upgrade/add-on which piggybacked onto the Genesis retaining the old Yamaha chipset, or Texas Instruments set if on a later model, you can't expect any more from it than on the genesis sound-wise!!)

Saturn version is the best console version for me personally, despite the arranged soundtrack

  • The Saturn version at first glance looks damn accurate to the arcade. If one took out the load times, the saturn and PSOne versions would be great.

  • You have it backwards. The Saturn version is an enhanced port of the PS1 version. It came out after the PS1 version, and they decreased the load times on the Saturn version.

I prefer the Saturn version for the big characters, sounds, and the easier AI.

  • hey men can you tell where did you buy the mortal kombat 2 for the playstation 1

  • Hey everyone, if your into Mortal Kombat or retro and classic games in general, then you need to check out my page..

    The Emulator Review!

I have MK 2 arcade i just uploaded right now! But I review retro games, tech gadgets and programs! You should stop by and check it out!!

  • What about the Trilogy release for PSX?

  • Wow! The sprites in the Saturn/PSX versions are bigger than the Arcade.

  • Great vid man love it

  • Should have mentioned the PC version, I think it was the closest to the Arcade. Great video none the less.

  • Best MK game ever made

  • Is it just me or is MK II way harder than the original?

  • MK2 and MK1 are actually pretty easy if you do uppercuts, jump kicks, and speacial moves

  • Genesis, even though the music was different it still was a great soundtrack.

  • One thing I noted was that in the Arcade version, Shang Tsung's winpose was merely him standing with his hands on hips, his laughing animation only appearing in the credits. The Mega Drive and Saturn version had the laughter intact. Strange, huh.

  • at 4:45 liu kang sounds like mario!!!!lolz!!

  • In addition, let me reming you that regarding the 32X port, many people regard the genesis music is a lot better than snes or even arcade for it sounds more obscure despite its "quality limits"

  • i think the genesis version was very rushed. If you look at mk3 and umk3 genesis it was twice the size of mk2 and it was MUCH better...

  • Say that both players are Johnny Cage. In most versions, Player 1 is blue and Player 2 is red.

Why is it that on the Super Nintendo version, Player 1 is red and Player 2 is blue?

I just don't get it. I'm curious, btw.

  • Very good job, 5/5

  • I'm surprised you didn't cover the Commodore Amiga (European game), and the MS-DOS version.

  • actually the psx version is better than sega saturn, because while in ps1 you have faster recovery time and some gameplay changes, in sega saturn version of the game the gravity is so broken that it could not be played in vs at all...

  • SNES MK2 is the best for team battle alone

  • The problem with fighting games on the PS1 and Saturn of MK is the loading time. Hell you use Shang and morph to any other fighter. You have loading time. The reason the music didn't stop in a fatality was because it will pause and load. So they kept the music going when you do a fatality. To bad it didn't came out when the Saturn release there 4MB expansion pact. It will be ARCADE perfect. Why you say? Well play x-Men VS Street fighter on the Saturn and then play it on PS1 you'll see why.

  • Does the lifebars in MK2 PS1 and Saturn like in Arcade?

  • to eddiepsp

what??!! you're classing mk among other games as if it was just any old game??!!

    you shouldnt

  • I'm not slamming the old classic, they were still fun to play. It's just that back in the days the Arcade's had better performance ability than the console. Hell the only one that went close or perfect was the Saturn with there 4MB expansion pack. Hell try making a SNK game on the N64 or PS1 it's not going to happen. Neo-Geo was a very powerful 2D beast. Who cares know any console can emu does, even the Wii. For Mortal Kombat fans, look for Mortal Kombat Trilogy, buy both N64 and PS1 trust me.

  • i dont think the SS mk2 is superior to the PS mk2

  • Hey, Retroware TV! Can you guys do a review of all versions of all of the Street Fighter II and Alpha games as my request?

  • theres one more not covered the gameboy version which i still have

  • Awesome review, 10/10!

  • 3.22

i dont think either of them are as good as the snes version, but if i was to choose between ps and ss mk2, i think the ps version is better

  • i like the charecter select theme of MK2 for Sega Saturn

  • I played it for the Saturn too, and I really liked it. In fact, this was the first MK game I played back in '98.

  • ::thumbs up::

  • look at the 32x parts at the top of the screen the time and wins numbers are messed up some times

  • what confuses me is the Animalities...

i thought MK3 was the game that had the animalities not MK2. I guess i was totally wrong but still that crotch shot and toasty were still in there so :)

  • Only Liu Kang had an Animality in MK2, but it was just called a Fatality.

  • @ratix98 mk 2 did not have animalities. the closest thing they had to an animality was liu kang's dragon bite. and that was a fatality in this game.

  • As usual, you guys did a top notch job. Nice work!

  • Will you display UMK3 Ports (ps2-the armaggedon LM Ed, Xbox360, Saturn, SNES, and Genesis as the last expecially had some differences with first 3) with MK3 (PSX, SNES, and Genesis) AND quite possibly give a overview of the 3 verisons of MK Trilogy (N64, Saturn + PSX) GREAT VIDS as always....keep it up.

  • They should have done a Mega CD version, with sound like the MK1 game. Ive got the Megadrive MK2 and theres one thing that disappionts me- Scorpion just says 'come ere' not 'get over here' as well, I noticed he does on the arcade version. By the way the Master System graphics are great, imagine a NES version!

  • i didnt knew there was a mk 2 for psone excellent review as always

  • Cool! Ive been waiting this one :D

Yesterday I subscribed to your forums, looking for it, and now, here it is!

Very nice articles about the MK storyline, very useful!

  • wow, you watched part 1 and 2 of the MK2 review already. That was quick, They just went live. Good Job hehe.

  • You know me. I've always loved MK.

  • I have another info bit: The Japanese version had the subtitel "Kyuukyoku Shiknken". I know "Shinken" either means "Seriousness" or if you're going by FOTNS, "god fist" but I don't know what kyuukyoku means. What do you think the full title translates too?

  • NEver mind, just read tha tit could mean "Ultimate God Fist".
