First: Rob Bryton is a crank. He's more a philosopher than scientist. The way scientists understand the 10th dimension is actually simpler than that.
Second: For a universe to exist it must be "physically possible." Physics does not understand what a Thursday is and cannot reverse gravity on such a day.
Third: Even if something is physically possible, like say a universe with reverse gravity, in such a universe all matter and space itself would fly apart leading to the utter failure.
I expected you to have a poor criticism, but this is exactly Heisenberg's criticism. The "many worlds" hypothesis confuses potency for actuality.
"Everything that can be is." Such a great response, and anyone who doesn't see the problem with this is too caught up in the mathematical brilliance to the many worlds hypothesis.
if time travel was possible, wouldn't you, the moment you leave your current dimension, stop existing? If the answer is yes, then you would break all the laws of thermodynamics AND the Theory of relativity, simply because E=mc^2. this means that the mass that your body consists of would disappear without being turned into energy, and since all energy is a constant there would be a lack of energy in this constant. And THEN something really terrible would happen to the multiverse..
you just left AND the one you just entered, given that E=MC^2 is true in that universe, and if it is there would be too much energy, and with too much energy the universe would rip itself apart in order to maintain balance in the amount of energy.
But of cause this is only theory, but I like to work with this one day...
Post Scriptum. I'm a 16 year old with an interest in quantum physics, witch means that i could be wrong, but not very likely.. ;)
The reason we see time as a straight line is because it's easier to understand and accept. No-one considers that maybe time doesn't actually work that way since it's been proven that time isn't the same EVERYWHERE.
And that's why the Doctor avoids his own timeline, because the universe can account for non-self interference, because it doesn't create an infinite loop within your own timeline.
why is it suggested by some that ecceeding the speed of light causes reverse time travel? you are basically travelling into the future relatively fast approaching c. so time is slowed down. time would reverse surely for the traveller- so they'd be in the future the 'day' before they left surely- and that's a complete problem with causality much worse than the paradox here. multidimensions side step regular travel but exceeding c time travel is something else and just an impossible loop.
I don't 'believe' in time traveling, but If something makes too many questions, more, than answers it made, it doesn't mean, that this is not true (e.g. quantum mechanics). And also phrase about 'sense' have no any sense.
why do you guys assert that time is a physicle thing like space?
We define velocity by the distance an object has traveled compared to the time it took. v = s/t . However, there is no definition of time. So how can you define something with a concept that is undefined?
But mathmaticly we can rearrange the equation: t = s/v , now time is dependent on an objects distance and its velocity.. What if that is the definition of time?
Time is merely the illusion created when matter is set in motion.

Or maybe time doesnt exsit at all. The concept of time is based off of memories. If we did not have a memory, that the mind created, then we would not have anything to reflect upon to then have the desire to go back to change an out come. The perception that there is a time only exist in the mind stored as memory. So to go back in time is to go back in your mind and change a memory of something that happened. But to change that memory is subjective, so when u come back things may be the same in
Who's to say that time goes in a linear motion from past to present to future? That is a Euro-centric view that time is linear. We could be going from the future to the past becoming less and less advanced as we go along...if you take a look at ancient societies it would seem that we are. Or the dimensions could intersect creating a loop hole of endless reoccurence...Maybe i've typed this before...who's your leader? which is your flock? who do u watch? who do u watch?

Lol, I love the Multiple dimension, it makes more sense, though I would think that things start to get crazy once you get to the point you could see them, but it's not like like is crazy once you can see multiple nations or even city blocks, and nothing non-sensical ever happens even limiting it to one time dimension, no never.... it's not like we murder thousands for no good reasons, or anything like that.. noo.. never.
Actually, if you think about it, it doesn't make sense. I typed this comment twice now, and I keep changing my mind, but maybe it's impossible, or we aren't smart enough to understand. It probably does make sense, it's just that if it was real, it would be chaos.

You don't know what you don't know. You can't percieve things that you don't know what your ignorant about. Someone once told me, you don't know what salgados are like until you tried it. I thought, "I didn't even know there were things called salgados if the first place, let alone knowing that I am ignorant of their taste."
Our tiny human perceptions are so limited, with things like this, why bother. We don't even really know if time travel is possible in the first place. So why go beyond that
Obviously the theory is flawed. This guy pointed out that the theory means, in simplest form, that 1=0 which is obviously false. Just like a math equation, if you get something that is obviously false, then you have something wrong in your math. Human error.
Same thing with this theory. If the eventual conclusion is that nothing exists is obviously false because we're obviously here. So go back and find that human error in the theory. Problem is there will always be human error.
Boiling it down, and quoting the movie Interstate 60 (where I LOVED seeing Christopher Lloyd casted: "Given an infinite universe and infinite time, all things will happen. That means that every event is inevitable, including those that are impossible."
He's assuming that the great Ugimachu's (am I spelling that right?) ability to destroy other universe's is possible. Maybe even in every possible existence the ability to destroy other universes is not possible, after all, aren't we assuming that they exist on a different plane of the space time continuum? Oh and by the way how exactly are the other universes branched off each other?
When you argued the case that time travel is impossble because chnageing the past would remove cause for time travel, you failed to take into account stries in which time travel is the cause for time travel. Stories in which the past is not changed, but the event are still better because soemone traveled in time and made them possible. If you got lost in that argument, read "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" or watch Disney's "Gargoles", season 2 episodes 8 and 30.
Logical error. It's like saying "can God draw a square circle?"... it's gibberish. Just because everything must be contained within the 10th dimention does not mean God needs to draw a square circle or that a space monster needs to kill us all. Just because a model has a flaw doesn't make it untrue. There might be restrictions on what is possible within each dimention. And God might exist. Until either is proven, I'm fine with being stuck in this time line and doing sin.
Even if it would be linear, wouldn't going back in time (and thus changing the past), change your future? And in the end you will not go back in time anyway!
So even if time travel machine is made, the moment it will be used to change past will lead to not-creating the time machine.
problem with multiverse theory...cannot prove it. it's all speculation, with no real application. so let's move on to something useful and worthwhile.
Multiverse theory is infinite, this means that anything you imagine exists in a universe somewhere. In other words, in some universe, there's a yellow haired, blue eyed, orange jumpsuit wearing ninja shouting BELIEVE IT! As well as a sparkly vampire, and a world filled with peace and superhumans.....DAMN OUR UNIVERSE SUCKS!
Talking with my sci-fi friends, I tried to explain this situation. Sadly, none of them could wrap their heads around it and tried arguing with me, saying I was wrong. Because, of course, the stuff that happens in Stargate is real... Yeah....
If all things that can exist do, then such a universe as this one must be allowed to exist. The lack of alternate universes that would negate this one is allowed by the possibility of this one. Our universe has filters necessarily, and this is why every thing doesn't overlap and cancel each other out.
So is the saying "There is no such thing as coincidence, only inevitability." really true after all? Sorry got this from a anime, god I'm such a dork!
@AnimexxOtaku1 Yes and no, because the possibility of you there being coincidence existing exists in one universe, while it doesn't in another. But if there is a being that can destroy all matter as we know it, and one that can create it...that seems pretty biblical to me. Don't flame me, i'm only stating my opinion.
The multiverse is based on the idea that the universe is not predetermined but can be changed and is random. But if you agree with the big bang theory then the multiverse idea is less workable as a model because everything is governd by set laws not random chance
"there are infinite dimensions in which you meet alternate you, and whether you like alternate you depends on which dimension you meet him in."-confuscius
The only way time travel can be portrayed in a way that makes sense if it takes a fatalistic tone - i.e., it was all destined to happen that way anyway. This is more or less the way that "Bill and Ted" handles it, because they would interact with themselves from the future and do things before they could do them. I think?
So, there's a universe where I'm the president of the color pink inly on Thursdays IF gravity is reversed, which happens every 7 weeks, and I am really the OogiMashu
The next posibility is that I WAS the lord of all evil, and convinced everyone that pooping is evil, leading to everyone dying..
For those that have seen it, if the Multiverse is real, is the plot of The One a correct way of thinking? IE: If there is a set number of universes and in each universe theres one of you and you killed that version of you in that universe, does the life of that version of you get transferred to the other yous to keep the balance of life until each version of you is dead in every universe? And, is traveling the Multiverse really time traveling or just traveling to and from another dimension?
soooo if the multi verse theory is true....then in one universe, im winie the pooh. On another im Arthas from world of warcraft, and on another im a black haired paris hilton? Yeah.....multiverse theory just makes more questions than answers.xD
On a side note...I think time travel is possible if there are NO parallel universes and you go to the future, make it IMPOSSIBLE to go back...what paradox can there be if you time travel to the forward right, right?
if you go back in time and tried to change something you obviously failed because it still happened so because of history if i travel back tomorrow I'm already in history to day so you can participate in history but you cant change it.
time loops every action branches a new universe were it happens again and in that universe dose it again and again and again using this i can sling shot around another universe to go back in time in my own.
i really love how you explain things. I got the basis of the tenth dimension video but when you explained the main points it all of a sudden made sense. thank you, and good points by the way.
Yeah, I think the multiverse is the most likely possibility (I have no backing up of this, I'm just thinking it's probably that there will always be more...stuff... after any stuff you find in space) but it has nothing to do with time, as time is a man made commodity.
what makes you think you retain knowledge when you go backwards in time? what if going back in time is more like hitting rewind, this way nothing can really be changed if everything is cause and effect.
If by time travel you mean holding yourself constant and moving everything else backwards then... Holy fuck I cant even grasp the paradoxes
Unfortunately having an infinite number of parallel universes means there are universes where there is a version of you that comes in contact with another version of you in one reality, therefore it isn't a really a paradox but seems as if it is because of our minor view on the subject. Anything is possible in a multiverse which means you saving your mom would not change the timeline which you left, but when you return, you will go to a new PARALLEL universe where she is alive rather than origin
Think about it though, you returning back to the universe you came from would still have her existing as dead because that is the universe you experienced. In order to save her, you have to cross over to a universe which supports that outcome. Look at it this way, every moment is a new parallel universe because of the dimension of time, and every moment is a vibration aka a still moment in time.
@mmhmmm2 Yes, but in the timeline that split from our current timeline when you saved your mum from a bad hair day, another timeline would have been created. every decision we make, a theoretically infinite number of new parallel universes are created due to all the decisions that could have been made by you. there could be an infinite variations of the post I am writing now, from UG1!1! to a 400 page essay because in that parralel universe Youtube allows very long posts. isn't infinity amazing?
@mmhmmm2 Not specifically until you said it like that. Scientists are divided(surprisingly) on the subject, an episode of New scientist in 2009 (sorry, no reference) said that there are three ideas. Time is one-dimensional; time is two-dimensional creating places where it can potentially loop and connect with itself and that time doesn't have a dimension. The latter is what you're suggesting and I personally cannot get my head round that idea. Back to my first post, I think a better (next post)
@deathbower way of describing the parallel universes and the different versions are parallel and identical until a decision or something like that happens. Finally as time is theoretically infinite and there are a theoretically infinite number of different patterns meaning that there are a number of parallel universes equal to infinity to the power infinity. Is anybody's brain dribbling out their ears yet? or do we need to describe the sheer largeness of the idea of infinity
The key to the multiverse hypothesis is qualifier "possible". This prevents the paradoxes you raised. That is, we can explain that there is no time thread in which there is an entity capable of destroying all time/space by declaring that such a set of conditions is not possible. The multiverse hypothesis only needs to allow for (and require) all possibilities not all conditions. It's a bit of a cop out, but it does preserve the integrity of the hypothesis.
some of the series that i have been watching. if same person who travel in time and see each another( same person). can merge into one self or it will erase one from the future.
All possibilities is actually something that only counts for things that are possible. That might mean things like God are right out. With all possibilities we are talking about physics, not all the possibilities of the imigination.
GIR: Wait, if you destroyed Dib in the past, then he won't ever be your enemy, then you won't have to send a robot back to destroy him, and then he will be your enemy so you will have to send a robot back-
GIR's head explodes. His body falls over, smoking.
~From the transcript of an Invader Zim episode: Bad, Bad Rubber Piggy.
So, if you say that in a 10th dimensional multiverse there are infinite physics possibilities, there would have to be dimensions higher than even the eleventh, if you believe in M theory. But from what I've been told, there can't be dimensions higher than 11 because outside the 10 or 11 dimensional multiverse, there aren't any dimensions and nothing exists. No time and no spacial...did that make sense or do I totally not get what I'm talking about?
I was just thinking, maybe our Multiverse is just one of an Infinite number of Multiverse’s, making up the MultiMultiverse or simply M2V (Multix2 verse) then the Infinitely large M3V, then M4V, M5V onto MInfinityV, then onto M Infnity x Infinity V and that our Universe is made up of Infinitely small Universes, and that’s how everything looks.
i wouldnt want to switch parallel universes because, what if the one you switch to gets you killed within an hour of being there? what if that universe gets destroyed by the great resurrected ogimatchu? even what i just said proves that there are infinite possibilities..... there may also be a universe that i switch to where i didnt write this comment (:O
according to this theory, if there is an infinite number of possibilities then some where out there there should have been someone who invented a time machine that can go to different dimensions. Do you think this person could visit us? is it only a matter of time? this is a possibility. (just a thought..letting my mind wonder.. 9.9 .. :D )
I AM BATMAN!!!!!! in an alternate universe of course. MY ALTERNATE LIFE IS COMPLETE!!! oh, and by the way, lets not all forget to thank the anti-Ogimashu for saving us all.
"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause and effect but actually from a non linear non subjective viewpoint it is more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey...stuff."
Multiverse would also imply, that in some dimension there is you, wanting and be able to visit you while you made this show, but i did not see him appearing, did you?
is it wierd that i understood everything he said? so that means i could have not gotten anything at all in another universe or gotten only half or maybe not even watched this video! *mind blowing* yeah its not :)
well see you later im going to the dimention where i rule the universe and jennifer aniston is a midget wizard that summons playboy bunnies whenever i sing the song "bohemian rhapsody" oh and freddie mercury and john lennon are still alive.. and they are married so yeah see you there
People assume that time is a straight progression of cause to effect but actually from a non-linear non-subjected viewpoint it's more like a ball of wibbly-wobbly timey whimey. ...stuff.
Let's play the infinite possibilities game: so we take this notion and link it in with the idea that matter only exists when being perceived, as stated in quantum mechanics. Now we take the idea that you exist in all 10 dimensions but don't necessarily know how to interact with all of them. This says that the "self" can be free of time but unaware. So, the reason that your existence doesn't collapse in is because you have not perceived a universe where that happens.
ok, so I am 13 years old and I understood and thought about THIS before i saw this video!!! I tried to explain it at my school and people were like whhhaaaa??? also, if you change something that will effect life, it could take your life..(time space continuem)
Not quite right, each universe generates all possibilities based on initial conditions. The multiverse topology requires similar universes to be neighbours, so the more extreme your idea the further away from your neighbourhood you get, and the less likely it is that your idea will be permitted.
You are making a mistake. Yes, everything that is possible, IS. All possibilities ARE.
However, not everything is possible. So no, not everything is. A being that is capable of destroying all 10 dimensions is probably impossible and therefor does not exist.
First: Rob Bryton is a crank. He's more a philosopher than scientist. The way scientists understand the 10th dimension is actually simpler than that.

You can travel back and change the past.
Time line A: Say you had a problem and wanted to go back in time to change it.
after changing it you could no longer go into the future where you originally came from. You would now be in Time line B.
Basically the 5th dimension. The fifth dimension is just another possibility branching off from your own time line.
Time Line B: Going into the future where you originally started. But here, would be different than when you left. because you changed it.

So time machine is a self destructing device...

If all things that can exist do, then such a universe as this one must be allowed to exist. The lack of alternate universes that would negate this one is allowed by the possibility of this one. Our universe has filters necessarily, and this is why every thing doesn't overlap and cancel each other out.

AnimexxOtaku1 7 months ago
@AnimexxOtaku1 Yes and no, because the possibility of you there being coincidence existing exists in one universe, while it doesn't in another. But if there is a being that can destroy all matter as we know it, and one that can create it...that seems pretty biblical to me. Don't flame me, i'm only stating my opinion.

The multiverse is based on the idea that the universe is not predetermined but can be changed and is random. But if you agree with the big bang theory then the multiverse idea is less workable as a model because everything is governd by set laws not random chance

The only way time travel can be portrayed in a way that makes sense if it takes a fatalistic tone - i.e., it was all destined to happen that way anyway. This is more or less the way that "Bill and Ted" handles it, because they would interact with themselves from the future and do things before they could do them. I think?

For those that have seen it, if the Multiverse is real, is the plot of The One a correct way of thinking? IE: If there is a set number of universes and in each universe theres one of you and you killed that version of you in that universe, does the life of that version of you get transferred to the other yous to keep the balance of life until each version of you is dead in every universe? And, is traveling the Multiverse really time traveling or just traveling to and from another dimension?
SealFormulaMaster 9 months ago
soooo if the multi verse theory is true....then in one universe, im winie the pooh.

If by time travel you mean holding yourself constant and moving everything else backwards then... Holy fuck I cant even grasp the paradoxes
TheENERGYartist 11 months ago
Unfortunately having an infinite number of parallel universes means there are universes where there is a version of you that comes in contact with another version of you in one reality, therefore it isn't a really a paradox but seems as if it is because of our minor view on the subject. Anything is possible in a multiverse which means you saving your mom would not change the timeline which you left, but when you return, you will go to a new PARALLEL universe where she is alive rather than origin
mmhmmm2 11 months ago
@mmhmmm2
(Cut me off because of limited characters)
Think about it though, you returning back to the universe you came from would still have her existing as dead because that is the universe you experienced. In order to save her, you have to cross over to a universe which supports that outcome. Look at it this way, every moment is a new parallel universe because of the dimension of time, and every moment is a vibration aka a still moment in time.
mmhmmm2 11 months ago
@mmhmmm2 Yes, but in the timeline that split from our current timeline when you saved your mum from a bad hair day, another timeline would have been created. every decision we make, a theoretically infinite number of new parallel universes are created due to all the decisions that could have been made by you. there could be an infinite variations of the post I am writing now, from UG1!1! to a 400 page essay because in that parralel universe Youtube allows very long posts. isn't infinity amazing?
deathbower 10 months ago
@deathbower
When you think of a multiverse, who says that the future and past are created? Have you ever considered everything exists now?
mmhmmm2 10 months ago
@mmhmmm2 Not specifically until you said it like that. Scientists are divided(surprisingly) on the subject, an episode of New scientist in 2009 (sorry, no reference) said that there are three ideas. Time is one-dimensional; time is two-dimensional creating places where it can potentially loop and connect with itself and that time doesn't have a dimension. The latter is what you're suggesting and I personally cannot get my head round that idea. Back to my first post, I think a better (next post)
deathbower 10 months ago
@deathbower way of describing the parallel universes and the different versions are parallel and identical until a decision or something like that happens. Finally as time is theoretically infinite and there are a theoretically infinite number of different patterns meaning that there are a number of parallel universes equal to infinity to the power infinity. Is anybody's brain dribbling out their ears yet? or do we need to describe the sheer largeness of the idea of infinity
deathbower 10 months ago
he actually made since and on that note, i think that time travel is only on one timeline. Humans can't do anything about it or try to alter it.
SpectacularDud 11 months ago
The key to the multiverse hypothesis is qualifier "possible". This prevents the paradoxes you raised. That is, we can explain that there is no time thread in which there is an entity capable of destroying all time/space by declaring that such a set of conditions is not possible. The multiverse hypothesis only needs to allow for (and require) all possibilities not all conditions. It's a bit of a cop out, but it does preserve the integrity of the hypothesis.

Let's play the infinite possibilities game: so we take this notion and link it in with the idea that matter only exists when being perceived, as stated in quantum mechanics. Now we take the idea that you exist in all 10 dimensions but don't necessarily know how to interact with all of them. This says that the "self" can be free of time but unaware. So, the reason that your existence doesn't collapse in is because you have not perceived a universe where that happens.
Done.

Not quite right, each universe generates all possibilities based on initial conditions. The multiverse topology requires similar universes to be neighbours, so the more extreme your idea the further away from your neighbourhood you get, and the less likely it is that your idea will be permitted.

However, not everything is possible. So no, not everything is. A being that is capable of destroying all 10 dimensions is probably impossible and therefor does not exist.
