Just read the book "High Heat: The Secret History of The Fastball", and the author concluded JR was/is considered one of the fastest pitchers, ever. A stroke ended his career in 1980. Sad story, but he regained use of his arm and leg. He was found homeless in 1993 living under a bridge, but then came around to teach baseball clinics and become a minister. He struck out a combined 626 batters in 78-79. Fascinating book, by the way.

Great story of Richards. The guy was out of baseball and homeless. Started going to church and got his life turned around. Very inspirational!
